Flickr for iOS recently received a redesigned user interface and a few nifty features, including a handful of filters for your images along with the ability to explore photos taken by other Flickr users. But a new update to the app adds several smaller features Flickr users have been clamoring for.
Flickr for iPhone lets users of the popular Yahoo-owned photo site connect with the Flickr community and upload photos while on the go. It's easy to use, the redesign looks great, and it's a great tool for showing off and sharing your best photos online.
To get started, you'll need to set up an account, or you can create a new one from within the app using your Facebook or Google+ credentials. Once you're all set up, you'll get free access to Flickr, which comes with the ability to upload up to 300MB of photos per month. If you need more than that, then you'll have to sign up for a Premium Flickr account, which, of course, will cost you.
The main dashboard of the Flickr app opens directly to your activity feed, which lets you know if anyone has favorited or commented on any of your photos. From there, the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen can lead you to the app's other areas, including your own profile and Contacts. In addition, there is a new Explore section, similar to Instagram's, which shows you Interesting (popular) photos on Flickr, as well as photos that have been geotagged nearby. Clearly, the folks at Flickr want users to do more than just upload photos; they want them to hang around, browse, and connect with the community, just as they might do on Instagram.
