Pros I like how major roads are in yellow
Cons driving directions aren't the best
Summary No app is perfect. Just for comparison I tried to get driving directions to the same location on both the new Google maps and the Apple maps. I live about 2 1/2 miles away from target and Apple maps got me there right away. Google maps wanted me to take a 3 1/2 mile detour down the freeway which I don't need to do and it doesn't save me any time. This just goes to show that every app is not perfect. I am going to keep both apps and continually test them out to find out which one is going to give me a better route. I haven't been able to do extensive checks on the new Google maps, this is just the first thing I tried and I was shocked. I just wanted everybody to know that this is a great app but it is definitely not perfect.
Pros -Great interface.
-Extremely quick voice guided response time.
-More accurate than any other iOS "maps" app.
-Re-routing is a breeze.
-Voice guided for iPhone 4. Apple doesn't allow this with theirs.
Cons Low on features (check-in and social stuff like that). But this is probably due to Apple restricting them.
Summary The best option out there for iOS voice guided GPS, hands down. I mean, it says something when Apple hires Google Map developers to make theirs better. Google won this fight.
Pros I like all the updated maps & features.
Cons The Desktop version is TERRIBLE, there is no place to put notes like the old view, when you print the map view it doesn't allow you to zoom in on final destination view.
Summary I like the updated roads but hate the new desktop version, hope they change it back to something similar to the old view. I have switched back to the classic view and will be using it as long as i can unless the new version gets changed. Otherwise I will be looking for another map option.
Pros Easy to use
Accurate location information
Speech to voice is clear and understandable
Cons No "iPod mode" so whatever you're listening to is spoken over by Google Maps, as opposed to pausing the audio stream, letting Google Maps make its announcement, then resuming the audio stream
Summary I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the lack of an iPod mode and some lack of intuitiveness in the software UI. Nonetheless, this beats Apple's Maps app by a mile.
Pros Easy to use, very intuitive. Extremely accurate turn by turn directions. Took me to my destination when all other mapping programs failed. Street view is awesome!
Cons It took a few minutes to figure out how to use turn by turn directions vs. finding something on a MAP. After spending a few minutes with the app it all made sense.
Summary The app came out while I was on a business trip and fumbling my way around Apple maps. So glad Google Maps is back on iOS and it saved me from getting lost. I'm totally impress with the user interface and it took virtually no time to learn as it is very intuitive. Advantage, Google Maps.
