"No better than a third hand back-up option"0.5 starson by whatsinaname2000
Pros: Another competitor in the maps app spectrum is always welcome. Can't find any features that are not present in better form in other apps.
Cons: Giving away your privacy to Google. Enough said.
Summary: If one looks at the reviews, you can always see how they quickly brush over the bad interface and lack of integration with the iOS system and then fawn forever that an obscure pub is amazingly found by Google Maps. Even better, the ratio of android fan noise in the commentary section of the publication is directly related to the degree of conformism by the reviewers.
AFAIK, in the US, I have never had problems with Apple Maps, and there are plenty of other free and paid options available in the Maps section that served me flawlessly when in doubt.
Google does not come close to Apple Maps in providing an iOS integrated map option, which is the main reason one should consistenty use such an app. If one considers Google Maps as a backup, for Street View, search confirmation or city transit then why not ? But other apps have Street View also, and city specific transit apps are an order of magnitude better.
The most important thing is that Google will track AND store all your movements, for their own benefit, then feed you their ads. Is this the price you want to pay ?
I would much rather flip the bird at Google and use Apple Maps as a better integrated option, that will get only better as the iPhone users keep providing info. Info that is not stored and categorized by Google for the purpose of "ad monetization".
