"Oh god why are they still in business" on by Ronin28
Pros: It has a pretty red box.
Cons: It exsists. It slows your computer down or to a halt. Spamkiller=useless. Privacy Filter=Useless. Virus Scanner = usually works sometimes updates. This is a garbage program just like all McAfee products. It is worse than Norton no joke!
Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS OR INSTALL IT!!! It WILL slow down your system. 90% of all the computers in the "computer repair shops" have malware/spyware infections. Guess what they also have. Yup McAfee. Save your money and get AVG or bitdefender. You will thank me. This and Norton are god awful. The customer service with McAfee is terrible as well. Don't bother calling them unless you have nothing planned for the rest of the week. They will start a "trouble ticket" and "get back to you". Right. Seriously folks, AVG or bitdefender

"Will never again purchase anything from this people" on by aboonie
Pros: easy to install, doesn't interfere with programs
Cons: Lets viruses through that can't be killed without purchasing and additional Mcafee virus killer
Summary: This people are suppose to be rated one of the top antivirus progams. My new Internet Security that I installed not even 3 months ago, let through a Trojan that Mcafee was not able to kill. When I contacted customer support they said that they weren't equipped to kill viruses that I should purchase the Mcaffee Virus Killer for $80.00. Nice little operation they have going, purchase anti virus for $60 and an additonal $80 to kill it. Completely worthless. Good riddance!

"Completely lacks to provide "claimed" Internet Security" on by B_JOSHI
Pros: Simple to install But lacks to provide security to your PC
Cons: AS stated earlier. No protection against well known viruses and trojan such as Vundo and Vundo.H. Not enough protection in their firewall and security. Very disappointing.
Poor technical support and Customer care...Summary: McAfee Internet Secutiy 2009 does not protect against attack of well known trojan such as Vundo and Vundo.H. My PCs were infacted several times when McAfee was active. It is extremely difficult to completely get rid of this this Trojan. McAfee asks for additional charges to help to remove over and above your licence fees. This is not being helpful. I asked their customer services when you will a fix but I never got a sensible reply. No online support/article to help on their website how to remove such infection. I finally gave up. Will say a Big NO NO to McAfee....

"McAfee's fatal flaw: FTP = Failure To Protect!" on by karmkar
Pros: Its user interface, with a clean-up tool & a link to the de-frag appl. Updates itself daily.
Cons: Slow loading up, fails to detect problems, won't protect your registry.
Lulls you into a false sense of security. Can't figure out why it comes bundled with both dsl & Cox. Big incompetence here!Summary: Months ago, failed to detect the trojan Vundo. That thing replicated itself on bootup.
Days ago, another incident with worms/trojans. McAfee allowed it to turn off the Personal Firewall!
Now, I won't have it on my machines.
I too, wonder how they've stayed in business. On a side note, I believe CNET is giving Trendmicro a bum rap. They seem top notch to me, & I'm goin there. -
"Buyer Beware - Online Removal Failed, but No Refund" on by gkohns
Pros: .......................
Cons: On-line virus removal failed to catch viruses because viruses operate outside of Windows - asked for refund but was refused because didn't call within 5 days of ordering service - time limit for requesting refund never disclosed.
Summary: Buyer beware.
We recently had the Windows Protection Suite virus get by McAfee despite having the firewall and the other guards up . This virus precluded McAfee from opening, so I removed (or so I thought) the virus using a newly downloaded version of Vipre. However, we were still having problems, so I paid $89 for McAfee?s on-line virus removal service. The technicians twice went through my computer, removing different objects each time.
Thinking the computer was clean, I took it in to Best Buy the next day to have a CD/DVD drive upgraded. The Best Buy technicians ran a precautionary virus scan and found yet more viruses. These virus, I was told, were outside of Windows and the on-line services could not have seen them because the on-line removal services are limited to cleaning only what they can see in Windows (had I known this, I wouldn?t have used an on-line removal service). Also, some of the outside-of-Windows virus may have dropped McAfee?s firewall/e-mail screening features.
Less than pleased, I called McAfee and asked for a refund of the $89, only to be told that such a refund couldn?t be processed because I hadn?t called within five days of placing the order. At no point had I been told of the five-day limit or I certainly would have made the call before then.
McAfee has lost this customer - take care if you?re considering becoming one.
