Pros There is nothing good or intuitive to tell.
Cons Words cannot describe the level of frustration that Word 2007 incites among those who would really like to get their work done. Why on Earth did Microsoft screw up the GUI? Scrap everything you know. Better yet, delete it and go back to Word 2003.
Summary GUI is not intuitive. I'm sure the Word 2003 functionality is buried in there, somewhere. I see no useful new features. The ugly Ribbon takes up a huge amount of screen real estate. If you are lucky enough to be using side-by-side displays -- guess whet? Expand the window to span both displays and the ugly ribbon grows too, showing even more stupid icons. And yes I have been using Word 2007 for a few months now. And yes I wish I still had Word 2003.
Pros I'll let you know if I find any.
Cons Hard to imagine this software was tested unless by people who just got a computer. It provides almost no options to let you control screen space. Large portion of your work header is taken up by useless thumbnails of fonts you'll probably never use
Summary This is the first piece of software that makes me relate to the you tube video showing some raging office worker bashing his computer. I takes the old adage of "don't fix what ain't broken" and grinds it into dust and then spits on it. Maybe if we all scream at the same time Microsoft will hear us telling them we don't need to waste our time trying to guess what they envisioned as "improvements." What this product does is ask you to waste your time. Unless they offer a version that allows you to re-skin the controls back to where they should be, steer clear.
Pros PROS - LETS SEE - TOO PISSED OFF AT THE OVERALL PRODUCT TO LIST ANY AT THIS TIME
Cons TYPICAL MICROSOFT - ABANDON USERS WHO HAVE BEEN USING THE PRODUCT FOR YEARS BY COMPLETELY MOVING MENU COMMANDS AND FEATURES SO THAT USERS HAVE TO COMPLETELY RELEARN ALMOST EVERYTHING. ALSO MORE BUGS AND ERROR MESSAGES TO LIST HERE.
Pros Clippy doesn't live here anymore
Cons Everything else
Summary Like most people in the world of administrative office work, I had used Microsoft Office for about everything for many years of my life. Now, I'm back in school and the computer labs on campus have this fancy new Office 2007. I have been unable to figure out how to print without the keyboard short cut, and I had to e-mail a friend to figure out how to undo the autoformatting that is still a charming feature of Word 2007 (Stop telling me how to format my numbered lists, Bill!). To add another 10 points to my blood pressure, I probably won't be able to open this document on my home computer because it will be in the mysterious .docx format. For shame, Microsoft.
Pros I can't think of anything I like about this product.
Cons Crashes at times.
Lack of interface compatibility with previous versions.
Summary I have been using a word processor since DOS and WordStar. I have no need for the "extra features" of Word 2007. Microsoft has no respect for the value of its customer's time. Who needs an upgrade that requires relearning basic program functions. I now use Open office almost exclusively, but will bring a document into Word 2007 to apply some macro tools, and to make sure that the file will open properly for others who will need to open my documents.
