"Better than Norton/McAfee/AVG" on by teddikins

Pros: Browser interface, scan speed, detection rate, fixes

Cons: Nothing bad. Too bad more people haven't caught on that the bigger names are rip-offs.

Summary: First of all, I don't work for Trendmicro or anything like that. I tried them recently for a problem that McAfee didn't catch. They blew McAfee out of the water. If you are willing to go into your registry editor, they also
provide do-it-yourself manual fixes for the leftover problems you might have after using the free version. It loads up clean, does a quick scan, & finds things the others didn't. I haven't tried their customer support, but for my money, their detection rate is superior to the heavily advertised brands that spend enough money to -- perhaps -- influence reviews of their products on sites like this. Anyone really believe that money doesn't talk?

"One of the better security offerings available" on by fmpdeveloper

Pros: Easy to configure and use for average users; offers more sophisticated options for others so inclined. Protection focuses on where threats actually come from and not some lab tests.

Cons: Extras on the Pro version are a mixed bag. Performance hit most noticeable on boot; otherwise nothing significant.

Summary: After having used Trend Micro Internet Security for about two months, I can honestly say that it is a good security suite that stacks up well against the competition. The thing that is most impressive is the way it addresses the actual source of threats (the web, email, etc.) using its reputation-based based system in conjunction with the older signature based methods.

In the CNET review, they question the efficacy of Trend Micro's protection capabilities because the company does not participate in the all the lab testing that other AV software does. To that I say who cares?

If I was going to load up my computer with virus samples from a lab to see which ones are blocked or cleaned by a security suite, I don't know that I would choose Trend Micro for the task. But I use my computer to visit web sites, retrieve emails, etc., and that is where Trend Micro's protections is most effective. In fact, in independent real world testing, Trend Micro bested all other suites blocking malware from these sources. That's the kind of protection I want.

In terms of performance, Trend Micro is most noticeable at boot time, when it takes a little longer to get up and running. Beyond that, the performance impact is negligible from a user's perspective.

A couple of things I can't comment on: Parental controls, where I use Microsoft's free Family Safety, and antispam, where I use Cloudmark (also a reputation-based service).

All in all, Trend Micro provides a good product at a reasonable price, and I recommend trying it as an alternative to other suites.

"Stear Clear if your'e on Windows 7" on by ScottyO_77

    Pros: can't think of any

Cons: Virus definitions won't update on Windows 7. Trend Micro report its compatible, however put simply, It doesn't work on Windows 7. Tech support are slow to respond and mostly not helpful.

Summary: Keep this one on the shelf, spend your dollars on a better product.

"The best anti-virus security suite out there" on by Trish44

Pros: I have been using this software for a lot of years & have been very pleased with it. We have it on 3 desktop computers & a laptop in our home. It has always caught any virus that any of us has gotten either from a web site or email.

Cons: The only con I can mention & the reason I gave this software a 4.5 instead of a 5 is due to an issue with installing the last update. I had an issue with uninstalling the old version & installing the new one, it was resolved by contacting support.

Summary: This is a very good overall internet security suite. I do use some other programs to double-check for spyware & malware, but you really need to do this with any virus program. One virus software is not enough these days to fight all the things out there on the internet. Having first a good virus program as a base is the best plan & then add onto that with additional free spyware & malware scanning software.

"Want's full 100% control of your computer's security!" on by sfmarkopolo

    Pros: There are no pros.

Cons: To install this supposed "Internet Security" program you must un-install 4 major programs on your computer first. You must un-install your Anti-virus, Ant-spyware, Firewall, and McAfee Site Advisor! Reviews of it's performance are not complementary.

Summary: Won't get along with other security software. Even something as innocuous as "McAfee Site Advisor" must be removed if you want to install Trend Micro Internet Security. I's a big bully!
