"Better than Norton/McAfee/AVG" on by teddikins
Pros: Browser interface, scan speed, detection rate, fixes
Cons: Nothing bad. Too bad more people haven't caught on that the bigger names are rip-offs.
Summary: First of all, I don't work for Trendmicro or anything like that. I tried them recently for a problem that McAfee didn't catch. They blew McAfee out of the water. If you are willing to go into your registry editor, they also
provide do-it-yourself manual fixes for the leftover problems you might have after using the free version. It loads up clean, does a quick scan, & finds things the others didn't. I haven't tried their customer support, but for my money, their detection rate is superior to the heavily advertised brands that spend enough money to -- perhaps -- influence reviews of their products on sites like this. Anyone really believe that money doesn't talk?

My experience with Trend Micro has been completely different. I bought this Antivirus+Antispyware based on the recommendation of the Geek Squad at Best Buy. I had a virus last year that the Trend MIcro Support people could not remove. I took out my hard drive and installed a spare one from my first crapy Dell Computer, re-installed Trend Micro and purchased new Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project. Now I have the smss32 virus that Trend Micro never detected and even after running a full scan, still does not show this as a virus. When the computer boots up and the virus box appears, I have to close it, before Trend Micro's box indicating a file smss32.exe is trying to launch itself. Risk is considered "low". I called the Trend Micro guys last night and they had me run the Hijack This file and send a copy of the log back. They said they would get back to me within 24 hours with a solution. So far nothing. Check out ratings of top Antivirus software. Trend Micro is near the bottom
