Pros Great features. Better layout. Way better firewall adn spyware protection then 2006 version

    Cons PcScnSrv.exe!!!!!

Summary Okay I got some news for you guys. I serch to find out why PC-Cillin Internet Security 2007 was using so much memory, I have found out something.

Memory usage problem. I wanted to find out why it is using so much memory and why it slowed down my PC. Well I found out why. The process PcScnSrv.exe is the culprit. PcScnSrv.exe, everytime you do anything on the computer....weater it being opening my computer or opening IE......PcScnSrv.exe goes up to 100 cpu usage when you cheak on task manager.....this is what is causing the lagg and slowness of the comptuer. So what I did was terminate the process PcScnSrv.exe and now everything is normal. Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security is not a memory hogger anymore and it does not lagg/slow down the pc. But the problem is that what does "PcScnSrv.exe" do? I have tried to seach on the internet but I cannot find anything on it. So I contacted Trend Micro rep and they will e-mail me back. And I will find out why is PcScnSrv.exe doing this and how it can get fixes soon.

So for now I have PcScnSrv.exe disabled/not running and everything was like now 2006 was.

    Updated
As you know I have been serching for why Trend Micro Internet SecuritY 2007 was being such a memory hogger (Specifically Tmproxy.exe and PcScnSrv.exe). And the problem with PcScnSrv.exe using 99 CPU usage.

Trend Micro Tech. Eric has been helping me and finally got to the route of the problem.

Anyways, eric just called me to tell me that there is a new build to fix this issue.

Trend Micro just released a fix for this and it worked perfect!

Now CPU utilization does not go to 99 everytime I do about anything on the computer and the memory usage has dramatically been decreased. It is so smooth now, just like how 2006 was.

I am loving this. Thanks Trend Micro!

    go to the "TIS15InstallerFiles" folder

    go to the "CD" folder

    go to "Setup folder"

look for the file "setup" and double click on it

just follow the prompts to install

Pros Installed easily, Seems to be doing an excellant job.

Cons Non that i have encountered.

Summary I was a Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite user and when I installed their new 2007 Suite it crashed my system. I tried the System Mechanic Professional Secuirty Suite and i can't tell you all the bad things that this package did to my system. I avoided the Norton Suite due to the reviews being so bad as a resource hog. I used the Trend Micro test period and was so impressed i have installed it on all of my systems. I have also recommended it to all of my clients.

    Updated
I recently had issues with my computer rebooting when I loaded a CD and when it did reboot it would not reconnect to the internet. I would perform 6 or 7 repairs and would finally reconnect. In frustration I finally removed the Trend Micro since i was cloase to expiration on it anyways and loaded the Grisoft Internet Security Suite. All of my issues went away.

Pros None I can think of

Cons Forced uninstall and removal of my 2005 pccillin version with no way of getting back. Forced removal of other spyware products to which I had paid subscriptions. Terrible resource hog. CPU usage 100%

Summary Forced uninstall and removal of my 2005 pccillin version with no way of getting back. Forced removal of other spyware products to which I had paid subscriptions. Terrible resource hog. CPU usage jumps to 100% everytime you start something, even when sitting idle. Slows system way down.

I've been a very satisfied user of Micro Trend Pc cillin Internet Security Suite 2005 for almost a year. My subscription runs out next month. So when I got an email from MT about a free upgrade to the 2007 version, I downloaded and installled it. What a huge mistake! First it uninstalls and completely removes my 2005 version, then it repeats this on my Webroot Spysweeper paid version, and Windows Defender. the 2007 suite installs ok and scanned my system and "found" 96 high risk spyware threats!.

I find this a little hard to believe as my computer is well protected. I have all the latest security updates, and I regularly scan it with Webroot Spysweeper, Spyware Doctor, Spybot Searh & Destroy, &. Adaware SE Plus. I also run Windows defender and Spywareblaster. First thing I noticed was a huge slow down of my computer. I checked CPU usage with the task manager and saw it was regularly jumping and staying at 100% for many seconds. Also my hard disk was going crazy doing who knows what.

I then tried to access my workplace through my VPN client and it would just hang the computer. I started surfing and everytime I would try to load a new webpage, cpu usage jumped and stayed at 100% and the pages loaded slower than a bad dialup connection. So I said screw this and did a system restore only to find my system wouldn't restore. I kept getting MicroTrend PCProxy fatal errors. I spent hours trying to get my computer back to working like it before the install. I had to find and download the 2005 suite several times, download webroot spysweeper several times. It's a good thing I saved my registration keys or I would have been really screwed. Finally after about 6 hours, I got it back to normal.

I know I will not be renewing my subscription with MicroTrend. This 2007 product needs a lot of fixing and shouldn't even be sold as it is. And I thought Microsoft was the only company that released a new product that was worse than the older one.

  • "Really the BEST of 2007"
    on by darkstarvik

Pros 1.) GREAT virus/spyware blocker, no matter what it lacks in bells and whistles, the most inportant aspect of internet security is the protection and Trend MIcro really kills the rest.

Cons Possible system drag and lag.

Summary No matter WHAT else is wrong with this Internet Security Suite, it really has the BEST protection against threats which seems to have fallen behind in importance for some reason... Norton? HAHA they dont protect against anything. Believe me, I have used them for the last 4 years!
I have personally tried out all of the major contendors for this year (Norton, Mcaffe, Zonealarm, AVG, and Avast) I have spent 15-30 days, whatever the trial period was, using them and testing their recognition abilities...
Even though the system stress may be less with other options, the protection offered by Pc-cillin is unmatched!
Zonealarm pops up annoying warnings and messages every time i try to check my e-mail or play a game or even use MS word...

    Bottom line:
If your system has 1G of RAM or more, this is the best choice for you since it offers the best protection at the cost of performance on slower systems.

If you have less than 1G, you can still use this very comfortably but I cant guarantee total smooth performance.

    Good luck to everyone!

    on by boom_shocka_locka

    Pros Honestly none

Cons Honestly too many to mention

Summary I've used this software for years - I was very sure that paying for yet another annual upgrade was a smart thing to do. Oh my no. PC-cillin 2007 CRIPPLED my computer. Like 4 minutes to open firefox. Like 8 minutes to fully boot up my machine. What the heck happened with this company.

I have nothing good to say about this product. So, in closing, AVOID AVOID AVOID . . . don't be distracted by all the shinny extras. If your computer won't run then who cares if you now have a super secret lock box file to put your super secret stuff. AVOID AVOID AVOID . . . any other antivirus would have to be better.

    Oh . . and yeah CNET . . . I DEFINITELY meant to rate this software 1 (O-N-E).
