Although at $75 per seat, per month, WebEx Meeting Center seems expensive, it makes sense for cost-cutting businesses determined to trim travel expenses. This slick, Web-based conferencing service allows you to hold browser-based meetings in which you share applications and draw on an interactive whiteboard. For that just-like-being-there experience, WebEx provides multipoint video for viewing up to four camera images at once, and Voice over IP (VoIP) telephony that supports full-duplex conversations that won't tie up your office phone lines. Or, if you prefer to use a more stable, less lag-prone landline, WebEx sets up toll-free conference calls for your meetings. You can schedule and send WebEx Meeting Center meeting invitations from within Microsoft Outlook or start a conference simply by clicking a button from within Microsoft Office or Yahoo Business Messenger. Of course, WebEx isn't perfect; it's difficult to learn, and video images froze inexplicably in our tests. With a little practice, however, WebEx Meeting Center can be an effective, money-saving alternative to the face-to-face conference. WebEx Meeting Center isn't desktop software. Rather, it's a collection of Web-based conferencing features that let you conduct meetings via your browser--all wrapped into a single service. WebEx guarantees data integrity, privacy, and high-speed performance by routing data packets (that is, your meeting) off of the public Internet and onto WebEx's secure network. All you need to do to make it happen is download and install a small plug-in during setup, a task that takes just a few minutes for users with broadband connections.

This system is nearly foolproof, with one caveat: Each data packet begins and ends its journey via each meeting participant's ISP. So if your ISP or any attendee's ISP is experiencing severe congestion, session performance, particularly bandwidth-hogging video and audio, can suffer. In our tests, we found session speed to be quite good, with fraction-of-a-second delays when we controlled programs remotely.

Once you purchase seats at the WebEx table, you can set up your company's meeting center in one of two ways. You can purchase the WebEx Express package, which lets you set up a generic center yourself. If you'd prefer a customized look and functionality--say, one with your company logo, links to your Web site, or customized applications--WebEx will build one for you, but for a fee, anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000, depending on the complexity of the project. Ouch!

WebEx's scheduler steps you through the process of setting up a meeting. Participants receive an e-mail invitation before the session begins.

Meeting Center provides several ways to schedule and initiate a conference. One option is to log on to your company's Web site and complete a multistep scheduling process: setting a meeting's start and stop times, inviting participants, and selecting whether the meeting is a one-time or a recurring event. By downloading additional plug-ins, you can initial and schedule meetings, as well as share files and applications, from within Microsoft Office and Outlook.

The WebEx Meeting Manager interface is divided into three portions. The largest chunk, roughly two-thirds of the screen, is a blank window used for displaying documents, presentations, and the WebEx whiteboard. Drop-down menus provide fast access to meeting settings, such as the ability to change participants' privileges and allow them to annotate documents. A smaller box in the upper-right corner lists the names of meeting participants, and a similar box below it is used for online chat or note taking.

The Meeting Manager is nicely laid out, but don't expect to master it immediately. We stumbled in our initial attempts to share applications and change the video settings. You'll need at least an hour's worth of practice before conducting WebEx meetings with clients. Also, note that the application sharing interface is somewhat clunky. In our tests, the cursor often vanished off the screen, making it difficult to highlight text or write in the margins of a Microsoft Word document.
WebEx Meeting Center offers a robust assortment of conferencing tools, including application- and document-sharing functions, VoIP telephony--a.k.a. Internet calling--that transmits audio over your Net connection, and multipoint video that lets you view up to four thumbnail Web camera images at once. It's no bargain, however, with prices starting at $75 per port, per month for unlimited use. (A port is like a seat at the conference table.) A 20-person company could share five ports, for instance, and have five people meeting via WebEx at one time, including any outside attendees.

Meeting Center's new video tools are designed to be plug-and-play. If you have a Web camera connected to your USB port, for instance, WebEx automatically activates the camera and displays your thumbnail image in the upper-right corner (you must click the Video tab to see it). We couldn't figure out how to turn on multipoint video, which allows you to view up to four video images of meeting participants at once. But it turns out, our test site's functionality is different from a normal WebEx setup, which wouldn't ask you to make this decision. A simple call to WebEx tech support solved the problem--we simply needed to select Multi-point from the Meeting Options menu.

Presentations and shared documents are the heart of most business meetings, and WebEx delivers plenty of ways to display this information. As the host of a meeting, you can run conventional PowerPoint slide shows in a Meeting Center window or load a file--an Excel spreadsheet, for instance--and allow the other participants to either annotate comments or edit the original file. The whiteboard space is handy for jotting notes and pictures and works much like a traditional office whiteboard, only without the awful ink smell. Again, however, you'll need to spend some time with these tools; practice is crucial before you impose a WebEx session on a new client.

Verbal communication, of course, is essential, too. If WebEx's VoIP audio option isn't up your alley or if you simply don't have a headset to attach to your PC, each participant can use a landline phone to chat, toll-free, via conference call (WebEx supplies the phone number, which appears onscreen before the session starts, or it can work with your in-house conferencing provider). We like the fact that WebEx supplies the conference number, which greatly simplifies the chore of setting up the audio portion of the meeting.

WebEx Meeting Center's annotation tool lets you or a meeting attendee mark up a Word document. The cursor frequently disappeared onscreen in our tests, unfortunately.
WebEx includes free, 24/7 phone support, and given the steep price of Meeting Center, this benefit makes sense. We called a WebEx technician during regular business hours, and the hold time was less than one minute. The tech politely helped us with our video glitch--one of our Web cameras kept crashing during meetings--by suggesting we reboot the system. The fix worked, although we weren't able to determine what caused the camera to freeze up in the first place.

The online support tools are very good. You'll find a comprehensive user guide with an interface very similar to that of a Windows help file, as well as FAQs with setup and usage advice. E-mail support is available as well.

WebEx provides comprehensive online support for WebEx Meeting Center, including a user guide that mimics the familiar interface of a Windows help file.

worst company i have ever dealt with

Pros: the actual technology works fairly well

Cons: biggest nightmare of a company to deal with

Review: My non-profit used WebEx for a one time use, in April. It is August and I am still dealing with these people trying to rip us off. It is impossible to cancel an account or actually get in contact with anyone at the company that knows anything. They scam and delay every chance they get, put you on hold for 40 minutes, ask that you call back, say they will call you back and don't - all so they can keep scamming. Save yourself the trouble and stay away from WebEx. I have never posted a review of any organization, product, or service - but had such an awful experience with WebEx that I had to share in the hope to dissuade others.

webex sucks

Pros: As far as i'm concerned, None!

Cons: Many problems with webex. unreliable and uninformative

Review: Dont waste your time with webex!

User Rating: 1/10

Use at your own peril

Pros: With enough time to train and figure out all the quirks of the system, there are some nice features. One needs to be a superuser to be effective.

Cons: You need to be a regular user of the software to avoid issues. I have had a subscription for more than a year. I AM TIRED OF BEING EMBARRASSED BY THIS PRODUCT IN MEETINGS!!! It is not intuitive for the host or guests and FAILS to deliver.

Review: Stay away from this product! I have used Go-To Meeting for the past few days and every meeting has gone just the way I expected. It's intuitive for the host and the guests, unlike Webex.

This is the biggest rip off service available.

Pros: So for there is no PRO. Everything I experienced with them has been an insult. Plus they're just like DELL and everyone except sales is in INDIA. Support them and you aren't supporting America. I wish for them go bankrupt.

Cons: Don't EVER use this service. They charged me $115 for a half hour meeting with no recourse to transfer into any better plans. They hate you and just want you money. Everything they offer can be done for free with any PC!

Review: Don't waste your hard earned money. Stay away from Webex. You'll be much happier.

STAY AWAY - DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT

Pros: Nothing whatsoever.

Cons: Expensive, contract fine print, customer service

Review: We have switched to another company. I will not say which one as it may look like I am working for that company and posting a negative review just for the sake of it.

WebEx sucks. The meeting manager that has to be downloaded by each new user often put back the start of meetings by 10 minutes as people had problems sometimes which meant that those who were waiting got upset. They did an upgrade or something that did something to my user account on my computer and I wasn't ever able to do a WebEx again with that user id. Support wasn't able to fix it but instead blamed Apple.

The contract auto renewed without me knowing and when I called to cancel they wanted to charge me for the entire year or 'buy it out' at a reduced rate. The charges if you go over a certain number of users spiral out of control.

I could go on and on but seriously it's not worth it. Sign a contract with these guys if you want but I am pretty sure you're going to be upset eventually. The alternative we have found is significantly better. There are only two or three main alternatives so it's pretty easy to find one that suits you.

I really have no idea why anybody uses WebEx other than they have the biggest name.

Updated on Jan 27, 2009

It occurred to me that the CNET review was probably using WebEx once or twice. Try using it 2 - 3 times a day, 5 days a week, with conferences for 5-20 people where your business depends on having a good online demonstration and then give your opinion. When I used it for the trial for one meeting it went okay. It was when we ramped up and started having more users and more meetings increasing the chances of something going wrong and it usually did.

The Ex in WebEx should tell you something

Pros: Well, the promotion looked good.

Cons: Crashed meetings, promised performance failed, too difficult to join meetings, deceptive business practices.

Review: WebEx was supposed to be the Cadillac in its field. We were poised to implement web meetings on a wide scale. We paid the highest price and made the least progress possible.
Customer service reps do not deliver. We frequently were given conflicting answers to our questions about available features.
We asked to cancel in April. Auto-renewed August. Finally canceled December. Bill for those months: $1500. No. of successful meetings: 0.

Poor Customer Service and Tools - No Contracts

Pros: When they wanted to sell the contract to me there were attentive.

Cons: Once you sign a contract you are not allowed to ask for better service, the system is slow compared to GoToMeeting, it has less features and it is 2 times more expensive. I called to complain and explained I lost clients, they did not care

Review: Do not get into any contracts, Webex may look robust for larger business and the fact that it belongs to Cisco is a great selling point, however until the treat customers with the respect they deserve and honor their commitment to provide a great online meeting software, please do not go with this company. I have used them for almost 3 years and it has had the same features available, no compatibility to Google Docs, Outlook 2007 and it customer always complain of not being able to login to meetings. When they login, there is usually large delays, therefore a real-time meeting is not possible.
Until they do not fix these issues and provide better options, I suggest GoToMeeting. They trial is for 30 days, free Phone Conference call number, free voip and unlimited number of users and meetings

WebEx is a TOTAL RIP-OFF! Don't Sign up for their trial

Pros: None that I can think of. Their system didn't work very well, and then, even after we canceled, they kept billing us. DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER!!!

Cons: We tried the service, and canceled after the first usage (because it was so bad). We thought everything was fine, and then we find out that they charged us $49 every month even though we canceled!!

Review: This company engages in very deceitful practices!! I would definitely stay far away. There are other services that are much less expensive, and that work as well or better.

In our case, we signed up for their free trial, but the system didn't work well, so we canceled after the first day. I never heard from them again. No emails, no bills in the mail, nothing. Then our accountant was doing a review of the credit card statements several months later, and she found their charge. We went back and looked at the statements and found that they didn't charge us for the first month. But about 45 days after we had cancelled, they started charging us.

We called and they said that we had never cancelled the account (which we did). Their free trial was only for 15 days, but they didn't start charging our card until almost 2 months later.

I think that they must do this on purpose. I think they figure that most businesses don't monitor their accounts as closely, so they can just start charging peoples cards and they won't notice. I would argue that this is criminal behaviour.

Finally after arguing with them over the course of several days, they said they would credit us back for 2 months, but not for the 5 months that they charged us for. I argued that we had never used their service even once. I also pointed out that they were secretly charging our card, and not sending any kind of email or invoice to let us know. Basically, they were ripping us off.

So, do yourself a favor and be very cautious with this company.

Do NOT sign a contract with these people!

Pros: Product didn't work most of the time, they would not let us out of the deal for 4 months then finally said all was fine and we were done after proving our case. 6 months later we get a call from a collections agency that we owe thousands.

Cons: There are no pros so I used both to tell you the cons - they are cons. They never communicated with us for 6+ months then we get a phone call out of the blue. We are reporting them to the State for their practices.

Review: Horrid company to work with, horrid customer service, they lie outright (I have a phone recording!) that they have remedied you - then slam you with collection agencies. The product worked once in the 6 months, dozens of times we tried it. The one time was between myself and a co-worker. We could never get outside parties on - it was such a hassle. We use Yugma - nearly free - versus the 1,000's we now owe Webex out of the blue.

Horrible company and the product is even worse - run away - do NOT get caught in their contract or you will pay. That they will make sure of - no matter how lousy their service.

Save your system - avoid webex

Pros: Nothing pro about it.

Cons: Everything con.

Review: Uninstall crashes and webex will still load at boot. Webex support best solution to removing Webex- disable it at boot using msconfig. They don't understand the word "removed". Webex best solution to remove it - none.
Webex caused grief in IE 7, and Outlook. Webex will not offer removal support.
We are still working to get rid of all webex hooks - nearly impossible - considering everything it hooks into.

SUMMARY: Pay attention to the other CON reviews and stay clear of Webex.

Webex is awful

Pros: I can't think of any

Cons: Way overpriced and difficult to use.

Review: Worst service contract I've ever entered into. They deserve to go out of business with their predatory business practices.

Clunkiest software imaginable and no effort to improve it. Took me an hour to refresh my memory how to use it each time I needed it. Completely useless.

I prefer Infinite Conferencing. No contracts, software downloads, minimums. Awesome support!

Pros: popular name

Cons: software downloads, expensive.

Pros: 100% Web-based, secure, fast

Cons: Recording..

DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT

Pros: Absolutely NONE

Cons: Horrible horrible customer service and product

Review: The SECOND you sign a contract with these guys, you are nailed to the wall. They will do EVERYTHING to collect on the contract amount, and they just give you the runaround WHEN you try to cancel early. On top of this, they outright LIE about when the contract term is up, adding 3-4 months to it just to get that extra $$$ in their pockets.

Their product rarely works and good luck trying to get tech support to figure anything out.

Take me advice - STAY AWAY FROM WEBEX !!!!!

BUYER BEWARE!

Pros: Nothing good

Cons: Everything horrible

Review: This is the worst product ever. I used to use Webex in a former life and it was fine. Don't know what they did but my clients can't get on and for the past year I've fought with them and they blame everyone but their own product. I'm an IT guru for 20 years, and I can't even get it to work - let alone my poor clients. Horrible - no other PC word to describe it. GoTo Meeting is FAR better...

PictureTalk is a better option

Pros: Many features

Cons: Price is too expensive; support has deteriorated in the last year; many problems during sessions.

Review: I have used Webex for the last four years until I discover PictureTalk. Their pricing structure is far more attractive. Their customer support is amazing but more importanly their product is way easier to use. One very attractive feature is their CaptureFrame that allows you to control what the attendees see and you don't need to keep asking if they see your slides.

Webex is a ripoff

Pros: None that I can think of

Cons: Expensive, very buggy, poor technical support, and terrible customer service.

Review: Don't sign a contract with Webex! We found that on average it took 30 minutes for an end user to get a session up and running. Webex customer service said that's unusual, but then they couldn't get a session up and running in 30 minutes, with their own tech support on the line. They continually made promises and scheduled calls to troubleshoot issues, only to drop the ball. After two months of trying to fix the issues we were then told we were working with the wrong Webex support group, so we should start again with a different group. They finally agreed to let us cancel our service and now they sent our account to collections for months that we couldn't use Webex. Stay Away.

We're now using Glance, and while it is not perfect, it's better than Webex, and it's free.

Webex Service

Pros: SSL, Integrated Audio/Video, Polling

Cons: Slow, Overpriced, Contracts are a scam

Review: I have used Webex for several years
and have also used other products.
Goto meeting is a much better
product and excellent customer service.

What a scam!

Pros: There are no pros to working with Webex

Cons: hard to decipher bills, contract and unfriendly customer service

Review: I wish I would have seen this site before I signed a contract with Webex. What a scam.
The problem is their contracts are immpossible to understand, as are their bills, and when you want to cancel it is very hard. I cancelled two months ago and have been billed nearly 2k since (for nothing!)

In addition, when I was using them I'd call for help and they were rude and they also charged me in addition to the contracted rates for help.

Whatever you do, do not use Webex. Save yourself the money and headache.
Updated
Whatever you do -- Please do not fill out a credit card authorization form. If you're dumb enough to sign a Webex contract, do NOT fill out a credit card authorization from as they will bill you for mystery charges and continue billing you even after you think your account was cancelled.

Lousy Lousy ~ Does NOT work and charged me anyway!

Pros: it makes some things possible though difficult

Cons: terrible interface, misleading info, and simply did not work.

Review: After going through the rotten process of registration, I scheduled a meeting with my client's email and my own as invitees. The BILLING went through just fine, but my client did not get any invitation at all and although I only had 2 meeting ATTEMPS Webex is charging me 4 @ $1 each. Nice Huh?

I would NOT recommend. They used to be good. Oh well.

Rotten customer relations skills

Pros: Great marketing campaigns

Cons: Inflexible account reps and lots of excuses when the service doesn't work as advertised

Review: I foolishly signed a contract with WebEx and have been treated rudely by their account execs ever since. The service failed us on our first important presentation and they must have a list of reasons why it couldn't be their fault implanted in the brains at new employee orientations. When we pushed the complaint further and even tried to cancel our contract, they were completely inflexible. Given the new options that are available for this kind of service, my recommendation is to try any of them before you try WebEx.

User Rating: 2/10

Watch out for the contract!! Don't use them for audio.

Pros: It works, most of the time

Cons: If you're not happy...you'll never get our of your contract

Review: We signed up with WebEx in August 2006 and the support calls and complaints haven't stopped since then.
The controls are not easy to use and are unforgiving.
First of all, do not use WebEx for your audio conferencing. Find another vendor that will be cheaper and easier to use.
Secondly, reconsider the contract. Look very closely at the fine print to see what you're getting yourself into. We found that we could not break the contract and no one at WebEx was willing to work with us.
Microsoft LiveMeeting does not have these ridiculous contract clauses.

Oracle Web Conferencing is way better.

Pros: Standard features expected from today's conferencing tools.

Cons: Extremely expensive, especially for large meetings.

Review: I've surveyed all web conferencing tools before choosing Oracle's. It has a full set of features that meet or exceed other products, is extremely scalable (try 100,000 attendees in a single session!), has a very small client PC footprint (only requires a very small java applet that is downloaded only once and is agnostic towards managed enterprise networks), and is incredibly affordable (only $11 per seat, and that's just for the conference initiator, attendees are free!). And if you're already using Oracle's Collaboration Suite then there is no additional cost for hosting sessions.

Buyer Beware

Pros: You can explore the full version for free

Cons: No PDF support, Deceptive Business Practices

Review: As an end-user as well as a host of WebEx meetings I've found that fully 10-20% of participants cannot get logged in to their system. Additionally, there are several common file formats they cannot support (such as PDFs).

From an administrator standpoint - BUYER BEWARE! Their Administrator functions encourage feature use outside your specified contract (which makes you liable for some serious additional, unforeseen expenses - in reading their annual report, you'll find that these charges comprise a significant revenue stream for them). Their most egregious business practice, however, is hiding very important information, such as automatic annual renewals in linked documents, rather than in the agreements they ask customers to sign. Neither their sales people nor their customer service people disclose their cancellation clause - if you didn't take the time to read their 4-point type linked agreement, you're seriously screwed.

So if you must use WebEx, be aware that nearly every reseller of their service offers it at a better price than they do directly - if you must subscribe, ensure your administrator is fully aware of all the extra costs associated with the service - a major, major headache if there ever was one.

Webex works the Best, Secure and Market Leader

Pros: SSL 443, Outlook Integration, Recording,

Cons: Best Value

Review: No firewall restrictions, easy to invite others, record my presentations, security. Has both Outlook Integration and Lotus Notes integration. We have meetings with customer joining with multiple browsers and operating systems with no problems. Webex is great for meeting with our developers and marketing folks and rolling out new products. We have tried the other vendors and have had issues with them and now we only Webex.

WebEx saved the day for my Company

Pros: No firewall restrictions, easy to invite others, record my presentations, security.

Cons: The same pop-up comes on after every meeting is over, no way to avoid it.

Review: Houston. 1:15 PM. My flight was cancelled, and I needed to be in Chicago for a 5:00 PM meeting with the IT guy who was to "bless" my proposal for his company. What can a guy with a wi-fi laptop and a suitcase do?

Out of the clear, or more accurate, on a banner in front of the Starbucks, I see a WebEx ad, with a lady with her face painted in blue and green.

I went to their website, and chose to do a Pay Per Use meeting. At 4:55 PM, everyone was in the meeting, and in 25 minutes the proposal was corrected and approved.

Next day, I called WebEx and got a service contract. Something simple, but extremely useful. Even my sales manager can use it!

Pros: easy to use

Cons: Q&A feature

Review: I've been a user of several other web conferencing solutions, and found the WebEx tool to be very easy to use, and it worked. No problems getting prospects into WebEx sessions, or wondering if it's going to work. Problems I've had in the past with other solutions. Q&A would be nice to have.

WebEx good but Centra 7 is better

Pros: Great collaborative tool for document development

Cons: Bandwidth-blockages; pre-meeting software updates

Review: Several organizations I belong to host teleconferences on WebEx to develop documents. WebEx is generally effective but bandwidth for individuals connected sometimes results in different screen refresh rates for participants, sometimes resulting in confusion as to what's being modified until the host pauses for everyone's monitors to catch up. EVERY time I connect for a WebEx meeting, there's 1-4 minutes for software updates, so sign on BEFORE the meeting begins to avoid lagging. One organization I meet with switched to Centra 7 ( http://www.centra.com ) which may also be known as eSpace(?). Centra 7's interface is more user-friendly to both the host and participants, doesn't entail software updates every time you sign on, and generally seems to refresh participants' monitors more rapidly - less confusion as documents are modified in real-time (all participants see the SAME real-time). Hey, c|net, how come you overlooked Centra 7 in this comparison? I'd give Centra 7 a rating of 8 to 8.5 (vs 7 for WebEx).

OK service, but VERY overpriced and confusing!

Pros: Offered a lot of useful functions...

Cons: ...but those functions didn't always work right. Their service requires multiple downloads too, which creates problems with our customers. Their interface is very confusing. Prices are CRAZY!!

Review: Webex is not as good as its cracked up to be. We used to use them for our web conferencing, but we always ran into issues with them. People had trouble with required downloads, the prices were outrageous, and it was just to hard to master (the funtions are there, but it takes at least 10+ trainings to learn how to utilize all of the features). We also wanted integrated audio, and Webex didn't have it. We did some research and found services that were a lot more user friendly and offered all of the same functions, if not more! The pricing with these other services were more reasonable as well. One of the best services we looked at was Netspoke Conferencing, which we inevitably went with.

I was not impressed...

Pros: WebEx seems to have the best sales team out of all service providers we considered. They were very knowledgable and they also knew their product and the competition very well.

Cons: Unfortunately, after receiving their quote, we decided to try other vendors before committing ourselves to such large capital investment. To our surprise, the so called "second-class" vendors were just as reliable and in some cases easier to use and offer

Best and keeping up to be the best

Pros: We are startup software company and we found hard to reach the market across the country till we started using webex. Now international boundry is not the limit. We have clients as far as Taiwan, Malysia and far east. Thanks to Webex for its great feature

Cons: In past stability has been a issue but over time it has has reduced.

Webex should be called Crashex...

Pros: Prior to our first WebEx experience, I came to CNET Reviews to check out the editor and users' opinions. At first glance, it seemed to me that WebEx had the best product, so I coordinated our first WebEx conference and invited several of our top customers

Cons: However, five minutes into our presentation WebEx crashed and made us look like total idiots. After re-scheduling and calling tech support, we were assured by WebEx that the problem would not occur. Needless to say, the same occurred time after time on

WebEx is a dissapointment...

Pros: WebEx pioneered collaboration and for the last 3 years my team has been using it to meet remotely and become more productive.

Cons: However, I must say that although WebEx has always had reliability issues, in the last year the service has become nothing but a dissapointment. We used to average 8 out of 10 successful meetings. Now, it's only 2 out of 10. Tech support is not helpful

Too Expensive for its Value

Pros: We are glad our 2-year contract with WebEx recently expired. At the time of signing, WebEx was the best conferencing provider with the best value and service.

Cons: However, WebConference.com now offers more features than WebEx and it does not require a contract. After putting WebConference.com to the test for the last 3 months, we made the decission not to renew our WebEx contract. When the WebEx salesperson heard a

Good Product but VERY EXPENSIVE

Pros: WebEx is an excellent product for a Fortune 500 company. It is very reliable and offers a good set of nice features.

Cons: However, it is VERY EXPENSIVE. If your company cares about price, I would recommend WebConference.com. WebConference.com has all of the WebEx features plus it shines on multi-party video conferencing and in my experience a faster application sharing. We

Too complex & expensive. I prefer Glance.

Pros: Lots and lots of features, but I really don't use them.

Best solution we've tried

Pros:

Cons:

Review: we've tried several solutions and none have been as reliable and easy-to-use as webex. Also, i have never had a problem with firewalls. The pricing is somewhat expensive, however, we use one of their resellers, Communique Conferencing, at much better rates. Their service is also extremely good. We always get a live person that is very helpful.

Simple, Secure & supports Macs!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I used this service and it loaded in less than one minute. It also does not require you to upload confidential documents to a centralized server which pleased my IT people for security reasons. I can also invite people in on the fly to present without requiring them to reboot. CNet gives it a 9/10 rating, but I would give it a 10/10!

Why can't they stay up

Pros:

Cons:

Review: AGAIN WebEx was down for the better part of the entire day two days ago. WebEx has always had reliability issues combined with major security risks. This latest outage just shows their proclaimed redundant network is a marketing deception. I have used all of the top contenders and Placeware always comes through. They are stable, extremely secure and have been very helpful in helping me get a meeting up and going ASAP to cover for failures I had with my WebEx meetings

Slow performance, frequent crashes

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Any frequent user of webex knows when its good its great, when its bad it can kill you. Bottom line for real world presentations you can't accept anything less then 99.9% uptime and webex has never offered this. Frequent site outages, "updates" that take the whole system down, not to mention lots of mysterious problems that magically appear and disapear. Thank god Microsoft has bought their main competitor and will soon put Webex out of business. MS has the knowledge and experience to make 99.9% uptime a reality. Plus they have the money do back the project. Overall I'd say go with placeware they have much more of future then webex. Then again what do you expect from a company that considers a duffel bag a christmas bonus.

Works Fantastic

Pros:

Cons:

Review: We use webex for software demo's to potential clients. It works well and is easy to use. The monthly license fees got expensive, so we now use webex through a company called Communique Conferencing (www.ccimeet.com). They have no contract, low pricing and very good support.

This is the only service that works on my Mac

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I have had a Mac for years and I work for a company that is Mac based. None of the so called cross platform services really work for Macs. Not only does their current service work great but it's actually the only one you'll find if you need to use the web for web based conferences using a Mac. I hear that OS X is around th corner, I'll update all of you once I see it.

Proven Leader

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Lots of voting traffic here. It seems obvious other vendors are really getting desperate and posting some flavored reviews. WebEx works as reliably as and cleanly as my home phone line. My sales staff uses WebEx for 30-50 demos a week. We have yet to run into issues mentioned in these "user reviews". You get what you pay for... WebEx was the best investment we made last year.

Worked well on Mac OS 9.1 for me

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I went through a demo of WebEx recently (two people in the meeting), and was pleasantly surprised that it seemed to work properly on my G3 OS 9.1 Mac with Internet Explorer 5. It didn't work with Netscape 4.7 -- display problems. I was able to show a funky client server application to a user on the other side with no problems. I liked the product.

How could Ru-Paul be so wrong about Webex?

Awesome, awesome, awesome.......

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I have actually used several of the services available today, and not one of them holds a candle to WebEx. The ease of use, reliability, security and flexibiltiy make WebEx the obvious choice. It's so easy, you hardly need training, but without training you miss some of the built in features such as Record & Playback, Video, VOIP, File Transfer, etc....WebEx truly is an enterprise wide solution and can be used for training, tech support, sales, etc...

The Best Available

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I have used WebEx for 2+ years. I have also looked at and used multiple other solutions. Nothing beats them. In sales it is all about the close ratio and WebEx allows me to make the best and most professional presentations. Our company also uses it for training and support and I hear it works great for those as well

Intuitive and very flexible for presenter

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I felt the client offered alot of control and was not unreasoably big considering the functions it offered. I had no troubles with stability, although it is safe to assume that stability will be an issue for all vendors for the short term. At a Genesys trial I was bumped off and found the interface a bit confusing, the presenter spent alot of time working with the people in the meeting and a few browser windows were spawned upon entering a meeting. WebEx seems the simplest and most comprehensive thus far. The down side is the price and it will take some time to realize the value (Sales, and support uses)

From a former employee - it sucks

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I worked for webex for a fairly long period and often felt sorry for our customers. Many glitches and loopholes that should have been published never were. Many browser incompatibility issues, Netscape 6 is not supported, The newest version of webex doesn't yet support solaris or mac, the older version, 3.9 which thousands of customers are using and was sold with macintosh support is no longer supported by their technical support staff - Basically if you or your customers have a problem your sol. If you accidently start a meeting and close it the meeting disapears and your customers can't join it. Often if you run into a problem starting the meeting, the whole meeting will crash and no one can join it. Often if the host of the meeting loses internet connection the whole thing goes down and kicks everyone out. The problem with the way webex is setup is if you are in china and have someone sitting right next to you, both of you have to send and recieve data all the way to and from WebEx's servers in california. Peer to Peer for smaller meetings is generally way quicker. I think the bottom line is for the price you can do much better going with a different product. Yes its nice to have webex servers handle the load but for the price most people could use a peer to peer product (such as open source and FREE Win VNC) and have their own t1 network which is much more stable, convenient, and my money is that it will perform A hell of a lot better in the long run.

Subscription service packs a whallop!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: The folks here saying it's the same as other competing products must be looking at the limited free or pay per use service on webex.com . Even then, it's much easier to use and more powerful than genesys, but you really MUST see the fully featured subscription services to understand the power of webex.

Simple, powerful, effective online conference application

Pros:

Cons:

Review: If you aren't a frequent user of remote conferencing, the cost for the higher end tools makes no sense when you have WebEx as an option. It has the capability of providing all the tools the multi-thousand dollar solutions offer at a pay-by-the-use cost which is very reasonable.

User Rating: 4/10

Two's company, three's a crowd

Pros:

Peer-to-Peer Web Conferencing is Faulty

Pros:

Cons:

Review: PlaceWare does a better job ensuring reliability and security than WebEx. When a meeting host has a problem with the meeting, the whole conference goes down, where as PlaceWare...a hosted solution, does an AWESOME job in keeping the meeting going!

User Rating: 3/10
