Well I have had this one for over a year give or take, and had great results with it.. I have used the optical in from a DVD player and worked. I have also recorded guitar and it sound great. The software is not the greatest.. but for a novelist.. I thinks it's just dandy. But as for not working.. I have had Windows XP, Windows 2000, and the there are a few issues with it... since the update on the Service 2 for xp... but besides that. I think it's good. But unless you are a pro and I mean not a pro amature... the big dogs that work with the big boys external units. You can't get any better than this.
