"Creative admits X-FI has noise problems"
Pros: cant tell past the noise
Cons: horrible customer service and phone support
Summary: As a tech I expect high priced NAME BRAND product to at least have gone through good R&D and compatability testing. I bought an X-FI platinum in March of 06 and after months of following their trouble shooting and FAQ sheets and e-mail support they have finally admitted that the X-FI line is having noise and distortion problems and that my unit is "defective" and they are blameing it on motherboard incompatability. Yeah, right. I tried mine on three different computers and they all had the same low level intermittant clicking. Shame on Creative, actually shame on me for taking a chance and buying this peice of garbage after their getting caught lying on the specs of their AUDACITY line. And as far as sound quality, its hard to tell past the noise but comparing it to an M-Audio Revolution 7.1 I do not think the high price is justified. Sound system is B&W DM-602 speakers, Adcom GFA-1A power amp, B&K AVP-2030 preamp, MIT interconnects and AudioQuest Slate speaker cables. Their latest drivers claim to solve "some of the noise problems but they are doing further research". I hate being a lab rat for these big corporations.

I use an Audigy 2ZS Platinum and now I'm using an X-Fi Platinum for DJing and I plug this soundcard to hi-fi equipment at very loud levels (and also confortable volume settings without changing the gain in the main amps).
The sound it's very good for me (and also to other friends that also have X-Fi Soundcard), your soundcard it's defective.
The drivers are always under development in all companies, because they can't test them in every configuration posible (who can) so when you report some issue they work in that problem and then it cames a known problem for them.
Sorry you got that problem, but it is not a problem for everyone. I don't got any trouble, I can tell it has more than 105 db of signal to noise ratio at least. It's alot better than some "Hi-Fi" products in noise ratio specs.
There are better soundcards than these also Creative got a special line products for that (EMU-Creative Pro http://www.creative.com/products/welcome.asp?category=237 ), maybe you could also find a better option for you, but really X-Fi it's an excellent option for a great quality sound option.
Good Luck!
