"For the price, I was amazed by the quality !!!"

4.5 stars  | on by koopatroopa_15

Pros

7.1 support for next to nothing !!! ( paid 55.00 myself )
Quality sound
Great presets for gaming, or just laying around and listening to beats if that's your thing
Uber sp/dif optical out
Super easy to install
pwns MB sound hard

Cons

you DO have to open the control panel every time windows restarts. It will be in the
taskbar but iit seems that you need to actually open it for the EQ tweaks/atmosphere effects to take hold.
Drivers aren't updated often, though they work fine

Although I have only had two aftermarket soundcards before ( rendering me less than an expert in this area ) I have to say that this soundcard is an absolute steal for 55-100 bucks.
I bought a AMI mobo with 7.1 surround built in but it was incredibly disappointing as far as the sound was concerned, although excellent in every other aspect. I had never bought a seperate sound card before ( always had bought pre-made systems and spent the extra 200 or whatever for the soundblaster audigy bleh )

After getting sick and tired of my back speakers being too quiet and not really feeling any kind of extra kick from the 7.1 I resigned myself to go buy a soundcard.

I purchased mine at Microcenter in GA. The salesman said it was the **** and i was like " really for that cheap ??? " cause i was really expecting to shell out 200 bones for a decent one.

Well sure enough when i got home and popped that baby in, hooked it up with the sp/dif optical out to a sony 7.1 home entertainment system, played with the speaker positioning ( both physically and on the included software ) I was in gaming euphoria.

A couple downsides: Although the included software is adequte, it won't support a totally custom setup. It dictates which speakers are going to be in what position so you have to do some fiddling around to get the rear sound right.

It really doesn't look like Montego is tossing our firmware / software updates as quick as they could / should. Although I have had no tech probs there could be some improvement in the software.

I don't know what the very top of the line soundcards do that this one doesn't that warrants their extra price, this thing is a freakin steal. If your tired of your onboard sound then definately take the time to check this baby out (^_^)
