Quick Take: Yes, the Hummer in Hummer Shake Flashlight refers to the same manufacturer that makes the oversize luxury sport-utility vehicles. But as you'll recall, Hummer's original vehicles were made for the U.S. Army and boasted rugged durability and utility in the harshest of conditions. The $30 Hummer Shake flashlight takes its design and usability from these more traditional roots. Marketed at the true outdoorsman, this flashlight sports a rubber-guarded design that's both shockproof and waterproof--it floats, too. Best of all, this hardy gadget doesn't require a single battery; instead, it generates power when it's shaken. Hummer also asserts that the flashlight's LED bulb never needs replacing, making this the ultimate lighting device for the great outdoors or just about anywhere else.

With a shake still worked great after five long years.

Pros: Never have to replace the bulb and waterproof--important in a hurricane. No batteries to deteriorate when left in a hot car--important in the Deep South. Comfy to hold also. Convenience: no batteries to go buy! So also cheapest! Sturdy! Love it!

Cons: NO COMPLAINTS AT ALL.

Review: Since we live in East Coast hurricane country we keep hurricane supplies packed year after year, and here at last is one flashlight that can stay packed with no need to check the batteries or replace the batteries--we know for sure we'll have emergency lighting when the electricity goes off--even if it stays off for weeks and roads remain impassable and stores don't re-open. I call it my portable peace of mind. We lived through a direct hit from Hurricane Hugo and sure wish we'd had it then because eventually all our batteries were gone and it was impossible to buy more, but in some areas the power didn't come back on for weeks.

After a few months doesn't work

Pros: When new it works great and is good for emergencies.

Cons: You can shake it as you please but it will not work after a certain number of months.

Review: The flashlight cannot be counted to work in an emergency. A standard flashlight should be available for back-up.

Hope Hummers Aren't So Shoddily Made

Pros: Compact, LED bulbs, No Batteries Required

Cons: Loses charge too quickly, takes a LOT of shaking to get light, too few LEDs light is dim, flashlight won't charge at all after less than a year.. it's defective..

Review: I'd never buy one of these again, or recommend them. LED is too dim, (too few LEDs) takes too long to charge, and is literally a piece of junk that doesn't work at all now after using it just a handful of times. No ammount of shaking it will charge it now. Total junk.

Get a megabright at durapro.com (self power) or at costco

Pros: no batteries, my forearms and wrist are stronger

Cons: Shake time 10 mins, light time 2 mins

Review: You would not believe how long you have to shake this thing and you don't get much use time after.
Good for building wrist and forearm strength.
If you don't use it for a while the battery takes EVEN longer to start charging. I almost threw it out and decided I needed more exercise and it started working after 10-15 minutes or continual shaking (and that was only a dim light, but it was life).

I found a great product in costco called MegaBright Self power by DuraPro (I get no money for telling you this).

It has a hand crank in the back, 3 LED's and an emergency flasher mode.

This thing is so bright and lasts a long time on very few cranks.

The only con I can come up with on this one is that you have to cycle past the emergency flasher mode to shut it off.

Keep it Shakin'

Pros: No battery, rubber grip, water proof & floats

Cons: Shake-Sake-Shake then shake some more. Must turn it off to charge it well. Power button hard to find. Light dim

Review: If your looking to build muscles while camping, this is for you. You shake this thing more than actually getting to use the light. If you don't turn the light off before charging (shaking) it seems to be a futile effort. Also, in the dark, the power button is very hard to find because it isn't raised from the surface. The light emitted is not a wide spread beam, it is rather dim & gets dimmer by the second.
All-in-all, if you need an emergency light for a short period of time (15 minutes or less) this might be the flashlight for you. Otherwise I would look into the crankning flashligts which have a longer battery life, or stick with keeping the battery companies in business.

totally sucks - so dim, it's useless

Pros: it's light

Cons: it doesn't give much light

Review: better off getting one of the multi-led flashlights
