"Very good product that gives you peace of mind"
Pros: The software was very simple and very good
Cons: Hard drive case is cheap plastic
Summary: I purchased this kit to clone a hard drive I have. It worked like a charm, and I was able to use the kit to create a cloned hard drive within 30 minutes.
The instruction manual was good, but it left out an important point of installing the device driver for the USB hard drive case. Basically, before you start with the instructions in the manual, you should connect the USB hard drive case to the laptop via the provided USB cable. When you boot up the laptop, it will recognize the USB device and load the appropriate device driver. At that point, you can shutdown the laptop and start with the instructions in the manual.
The USB hard drive case they include in the kit is made of cheap plastic. The manufacturer suggestions a secondary use of the kit as an external hard drive for backing up files. Unless you plan on keeping this external hard drive in one location and don't plan on moving it around, I would not use the case as an external hard drive. The case offers minumal protection for a hard drive.
Overall, this kit is very good.

I appreciated the suggestion to boot up with the ez upgrade USB drive attached to the computer, for it to load the appropriate device driver. Apricorn doesn't say so, but the logic of the situation suggested it. However, even that doesn't work for me. Apricorn technical support, before they went out surfing, told me I had to have a powered USB hub, so I went out and bought another, not realizing the one I had was already powered. And then I should use two USB ports, one with the power adapter ending and one with the USB square connection ending, with the Apricorn drive. Basically, the EZ GIG II boot up disk doesn't see the drive. Win 2K also doesn't see the drive or the USB device.
I'm attempting to upgrade a Dell Latitude C610 with an Apricorn Xtreme drive (60 GB, 5400 RPM). Thirty-six hours of frustration, and no help from their tech support.
