"Disapointing"

0.5 stars  | on by parboil

Pros

The oven bakes well.

Cons

The stove does not: boil water, you cannot use a canning kettle on the stove, you cannot use a pressure cooker on the stove, you cannot use ridged pots on the stove, the ceramic top is miserable to clean. Service on the phone is most dissapointing.

The cook top does not boil water. When the burner is on high it cycles on and off.
Water almost comes to a boil then the burner switches off for 10 seconds then it cycles on and again the water almost comes to a boi and then it turns off before it boilsl and so on... It will take you about 14 minutes to boil a 1/3 full med. saucepan of water on a small burner using a good quality flat bottomed pot.
At my first dinner party using the stove I had to use the camp stove to boil water for corn. The guests were really impressed with that Whirlpool stove!
I was also not informed that only flat pots will have enough contact on the stove to cook properly and was not informed that you cannot do any canning on the stove top. This is a problem because canning pots are ridged and too large for the largest burners. You cannot use a pressure cooker on the ceramic top either. None of these limitations were given to me at the store and only one was even mentioned in the manual.
Whirlpool service was dismal. I visited the store with my problem, pot in hand and found their model stove would boil water without the cycling on and off. Great, I thought, my stove was just defective. When I called Whirlpool to report my stoves obvious problem they said the store stove was defective not mine. They told me that it was handy safety feature that causes the stove to cycle off. They were short and rude on the phone and very much trained to 'get rid of the problem customer'.
The top of the stove is a problem to clean as well but this is a minor problem when compared to the others.
When on the phone with Whirlpool I asked them why they didn't keep the stores informed of the products limitations. Their answer was they had no responsibilty to see that the stores were trained. That's not what the store told me. They have a salesperson who comes in and is supposed to tell them these things. When talking to the store they said they had never received any information regarding these limitations from Whirlpool.
I asked Whirlpool why they didn't just provide a product card to be attached to floor models in stores. The response I got was silence.
And so, sadly, I can report dismal performance and service from the stove and from Whrilpool.Had I been aware of the limitations I would have purchased a gas range. I feel sorry for the small town store I bought from. They were sold a bill of goods too.
Shame on you Whirlpool.
