"Great system if you get in at a discount" on by jacquescas
Pros: wall mountable, well matched surrounds, good sub
Cons: not the highest quality.
Summary: I picked this set up for $500 delievered and i dare someone to find a better 5.1 speaker system for that price. That being said if you ae paying the $1000-1300 retail you can find much better speakers. The sub is the best part of this set with a booming range that you rarely have to turn up. People have complained about sub issues but CV's customer service has always been good. They get more points for value rather than overall performance.

"Crazy deep bass, full surround effects" on by phishbum
Pros: Deep pounding bass, regardless of input.
Fluid surround sound.Cons: Bulky, not for small apartments.
Summary: After hooking up the CVHD 5.1 to my Harman Kardon 254 the difference in sound from my one box DVD/amplified/5.1 system from Panasonic was night and day. The bass really booms when it needs to, and the surround sound when things move from one speaker to the next is flawless. I agree with CVs engineers that each of the satellites should be the same, including the center channel speaker and having 6 speakers per satellite is really beneficial (I used to never hear the rear speakers, now you hear them at just the right time and they are well balanced). Whether I'm playing games on my PS3 or watching Dark Night on BluRay it doesn't matter the sound is always omnipresent and represents extremely well all of the different nuances from the guns and grenades going off all around me in Socom Confrontation to the biplane on Tiger Woods that sounds so lifelike my wife thought the plane was outside and about to hit our house the CVHD always delivers. Bluray discs are equally well balanced and watching the Dark Night reminds me of when my father got his first big screen TV and made everyone watch Top Gun.
Combined with the HK this is the best system I have ever heard. -
"CVHD5.1 speaker system" on by rverma2
Pros: good sound reproduction
Cons: sub-woofer issues
Summary: I purchased Cerwin vega after reading rave reviews at cnet and other sites. I like the sound quality - produces great sound when it works.
Noticed an issue with sub-woofer. The receiver volume has to be high for the sub to kick in and then it cuts off after about 20 mins if the volume setting is left as is. So watching a movie, the sub cuts out after 20 mins, then i have to raise the volume for it to start working again.
Haven't yet called customer service so can't rate that. -
"SUPERB VALUE, HALL OF SOUND!!" on by ajitdeshmukh
Pros: Seamless surround, great range
Cons: The ding they got from Guttenberg for not including stands
Summary: This surround system provides an excellent range and blend of highs/mids/and lows. I've securely wall-mounted all 5 speakers with the included hardware, and they look very clean around my LCD TV. Most surround speakers (which come as 5 speaker packages in a box) disappoint in that you can tell exactly which speaker the sound is coming from, but with the CVHD, you get a seamless surround experience. The 12 inch sub offers lots of bass (which Cerwin-Vega is famous for), but depending on the levels you set, you can achieve a nice balanced sound without overwhelming bass. The speakers will give you a superb value when paired with a mid-to-high quality receiver (I've got it hooked up to an Onkyo TX-SR605 and couldn't be happier). As a musician, I have to say that you need sizeable speakers if you want to hear the full range of frequencies, and the CVHD will not compromise this fact. If you care about sound more than size (beware if you're married!), then this is your pick in this price range. Bill Bush, a senior speaker designer/engineer, left NHT and helped design this system for C-V, so you know you're getting a top quality product. Each speaker has 6 woofers and a tweeter, so prepare for a sonic delight! Ask yourself, how many top-notch speaker packages come with the floor stands????
ENJOY!!
