"PRETTY GOOD DEAL!!!"

4 stars  | on by 2PACOLYPSE NOW

Pros

Good for small areas not requiring satellite speakers, in wall speakers, not a lot of wires.

Cons

Extremely Heavy. Heavier than the 60" Grand Wega SXRD I have it coupled with. Directions on connections confusing. Remote Could Have been better.

So far I must say I've enjoyed this baby without all the excess wires since I've had it for the past three weeks. Contrary to the previous poster, The sound this gives off has a lot to do with where you put it, and how large/small the room is. I did try this in other part of my basement (have two parts, one part was finished w/carpet and wall paneling, the part it's currently in, is now finished but no wall to wall carpeting just throw rugs and the space created just for the 60" Grand Wega and the stand)where it is carpeted and the sound didn't sound as crisp and clear as it did where it is at currently in the other part of the finished basement without wall to wall carpeting. Sound seems to travel further in that non carpeted part of the basement and be much clearer. Can't explain it.

However as far as the sound goes in the Front Surround feature, it was excellent. The only adjustment was to turn the SWoofer level to "0" because the SUB on that baby will drown out the center channel speaker. After making that adjustment, I've had no problems with the center channel speaker and the bass is still thumping after watching the "Chronicles of Narnia" on DVD. It also has a 2 Ch feature for playing your CD's through the speaker stand and a Auto Mode feature which automatically plays whatever format in the correct mode. I use that feature when looking at TV late at night. The fact that an AM/FM radio is built in is a nice plus as well and the FM stations come in clear and non-distorted. The cabinet has plenty of room to house my current DVD player (until I get Blueray), my DirecTV Box and my Panamax Surge Power Protector (which all my media is plugged into. A must have for anybody w/any kind of home theatre system) all on one row w/plenty of space on the bottom row to add other things if necessary. I even added my existing Sony satellites to the receiver and put them on pedestals behind me. They may say you get the feeeling of Surround Sound but if you don't have those rear speakers, to me you don't get tru surround anything.

Price is a bit steep but if you look at how much you save in having to buy a top shelf DVD dream system w/5 speakers, Sub, wires (unless you get wireless), possibly a top notch digital receiver (like a Denon, Harmon Kardon, Sony), you're coming out cheaper this way. The TV Stands themselves for the top of notch projection TV's run from 399-599 depending on where you go, an most times you have to actually install them at home. Not this baby. Already put together just opened the box and set it in it's place (with a heavy duty dolly of course. And they have the slots to hold the 50" and 60" Grand Wegas and keep them postioned and firm along with the strap in the back that connects to the TV to prevent you from accidently turning over the TV when trying to move the stand. Caution this is a stand that may take at least two strong able bodied individuals to move with the TV already on it. If you're trying to push or just move it just right, it will not budge without at least two people. Even without the TV, it was a pretty heavy sucker to move.

I would probably advise this for people w/apartments or a townhouse or a small room in a house.

For a much larger area you probably would do better with a Magnolia rep from Best Buy, or a rep from Tweeters to come to your home for top of line home theatre experience and help you design your system from scratch. Or for those who are already tech savy, doing yourself step by step always works or having a crutchfield rep advise you like they did me with my car audio is also very helpful.

But for me, A person that likes great but not top of the line and a extravagant experience, I've enjoyed it so far in the area it's in and I'm very happy with it.

Well, it sucks.

For $1,500, it really should work better. The center channel is much, much too weak and is drowned out by the faux side speakers. Sound is not properly synchronized with external components. Sound is relatively bland and, despite Sony's claims, it doesn't feel like it's surround sound. The remote is lousy. I'm not pleased.
