| The Bottom Line | The 2006 Nissan Pathfinder is a solid performer that offers drivers and front passengers a plenitude of cabin comfort and technology without venturing in the realm of the luxurious. Rear passengers, however, will find the back seats a squeeze. | The 2006 Nissan Xterra's 4.0-liter V-6 engine has enough oomph to schlep through mud, gravel, and snow, but it doesn't handle city streets with much sophistication. Soccer moms and weekday commuters should look elsewhere for an all-purpose vehicle, as the Xterra's rough ride, dated interior, low gas mileage, and poor emissions ratings leave much to be desired. | We would have been thrilled with this car two years ago, but the competition has caught up, and in some cases surpassed Acura. A lot of the tech comes straight from the 2005 Acura RL model with little improvement in the interceding two years. | The 2008 Toyota 4Runner works as a solid and rugged SUV, but the attempt to tech it up with an integrated portable navigation device is a kludge.
