I love my outlander!

Pros: Heated seats, sound system, the driver seat, the tail gate and the fact that it can turn on a dime! OH and love the bluetooth too!

Cons: The tires it came with are pretty crappy for winter. I used them last winter but was pretty annoyed with sliding all over the place. I am buying winter tires this year.

Review: I think it was well worth it and I love it love it love it. It handles really nicely and still seems compact even though it is an SUV.

Great value plus best warranty

Pros: tons of features, excellent handling, good looks, best warranty, hi-tech.

Cons: the plastic and the fabric on the door panels.

Review: I have purchased the car and being used to a Sporty Japanese Coupe, I was worried about the handling of a SUV. No more worries here. Good braking, good steering, awesome CVT transmission, good fuel economy (21.5 mpg in the city). I am covered by the best warranty in the industry offered by one of the biggest corporations in the world. Did I mention the sound system?

Better get good tires on it.

Pros: Nice riding car.

Cons: The tires are crappy

Review: I bought this car looking for something that would go good in the snow because I live in Ohio. Little did I know much about tires. One year later and Im looking at an expense of $800 to put new tires on the thing. The car will go through deep snow in 4 wheel drive but forget driving once the plows come and take the deep snow off the road. You slip and slide everywhere. Thank god for the airbags all around the car because Im so afraid of getting into a wreck with it. Car handles and sounds beautiful on the highway. Probably the reason they put the cheap tires on it in the first place. Other than the tires, I love the car.

Mitsubishi's big mistake

Pros: Awesome interior

Cons: Wrong Engine

Review: Mitsubishi engineers made one of the biggest mistakes of their history by selecting the 2.0 Di-D (diesel) engine for this. They know now , but it's too late, that's why they're replacing it with the 2.2 Peugeot-Citroen engine, that's quite a bit better. The 2.0 engine was good for other cars, but not for this one. Very noisy, lacks boost, needs high revs to move the car, and many other problems a complete bunch of crap. The interior of the car is just awesome, if you buy it with the petrol engine, expect to pay much on gas , it's too thirsty. I am very disappointed as I expected a really good car from them. I'll wait for the 2.2 and see.

Almost perfect..

Pros: Electronics, Bluetooth, Styling

Cons: Road Noise, Plastic Interior

Review: I have 8k on my 2007 Outlander and I am very pleased with two exceptions that can be fixed. One: Road Noise is aweful. I mostly corrected this problem by installing a dampering panels in the doors and expecially in the wheel wells. The second issue is the cheapo plastic interior. While I have seen worse, they could have done better. I corrected this by installing a chrome dash kit which fits perfectly. To match I installed a chrome exterior kit. Now I am stylin to Mount Hood without the white noise.

Almost Good

Pros: Good, smooth power and excellent turning radius.

Cons: Just a few too many uneeded gimics.

Review: I got to use a top of the line Outlander while my Montero Sport was being serviced. Paddle shifters on an SUV, even a small, sporty one, is absolutely insane!!! The shiftgate on the console shifter is good enough -- Mitsu should can the paddles -- useless!
the seat could have used a tad more rearward travel. The speedo and tach were a little hard to read inside their tunnels - the Montero Sport has nice, easy to read white on black gauges - the Outlander needs those.
Finally, the radio needs brightness adjustment capability for the red LED readout. No matter how hard I tried, I could not read the station or song identification in daylight.

The Gadget filled best of both worlds!!

Pros: 30gig hd, rockford fosgate system, blue tooth, great styling, ingenious tailgate design, lots of interior space, best looking leather seats in the class.

Cons: only decent fuel economy versus Rav-4 and CR-V

Review: i would have to agree and say that the Outlander for me was the perfect fit. it had the best styling in my opinion of any small suv and all the sweet gadgets that make my heart happy. The review on Cnet doesnt even include the 30 gig HD, navi, and blue tooth, heated leather, and HID headlights that work flawlessly.Love the paddle shifters although i don't use them that much and the sporty interior as well. more powerful than the CR-V (way to slow) and more sporty styling and gadgets than the Rav-4. Also i have used the great fold down tailgate at many beach and camping trips not to mention just changing shoes after a day of golf or when i will go snowboarding this winter.i average about 22 mpg with 50/50 highway/city driving. Oh and the Rockford Fosgate is by far the best sounding stereo i have ever had the privilege to experience at this price point! Know that i am 24 and appreciate alot of these youthful features in the outlander, but after loaning it to my parents while on vacation, they commented on how it made a great family car with all the cupholders, storage bins, comfy ride, and of course that fold down tailgate. Only gripe i really have about it is the plastic driver and shotgun passenger door panel. You think mitsu could have spend an extra few bucks into that because it is just a solid hunk of plastic with a single crease. I made peace with this a long time ago and am extremely satisfied with the Outlander. My advice is STOP BRUSHING MITSUBISHI under the rug. At least test drive it in your quest for a small suv and i think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Great value for its class

Pros: Great value for the money.

Cons: Interior color selection is very poor

Review: Comparison shopped this vehicle against Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. In a sense, I think the Outlander has some of the power you'd want out of the RAV4 that the CR-V lacks and the interior appearance the CR-V has that the RAV4 lacks.

IMO RAV4 really has a dull interior compared to the sheer beauty of CR-Vs. CR-V only offers a 4 cyl so very limited on towing capacity.

So then there's the Outlander that seems to give you nearly the best of both these two models. Of particular interest, you get a lot of added features you'd end up paying a few more grand on toward either CR-V or RAV4. Not only that, Mitsubishi seems to be willing to negotiate on price whereas Honda and Toyota seem to hover right at or even above MSRP. Forget it.

It's not the absolute best in it's class but it's worth serious consideration. I'm very pleased with my purchase. Let's face it, there are a lot of good vehicles that the Outlander competes with in this class.

Updated on Oct 30, 2009

Just updating the review. I've put about 27k miles on the car now, mostly driving it to work and a bit of 4x4 on camping bivouacs. Only two issues to report:

1.Rattle, as if a screw were loose, on the right passenger side.
2.Higher depreciation cost.

Anyhow, maintenance costs have been low and the car has held up well. I plan to drive it until it falls apart so the depreciation cost shouldn't be a problem. It just bothers me as my wife's Honda Odyssey continues to have high value even after 5 years of ownership.

I still recommend this as a good vehicle to buy.

Great all around unit

Pros: Good power, decent mileage, gadgetry, nise looking.

Cons: stereo dash board is kind of hard to see on a sunny day, too strong for the speakers

Review: Based on the XLS version of the 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander, driving 190 miles a day on the Massachusetts turnpike.
This SUV replaced my SAAB 2003 9.3, loaded with gadgets and stability.
It has an aluminum roof, all-wheel drive, and eighteen-inch wheels with towing package and large cooling system fantastic.. The steering is nicely weighted, and the six-speed automatic can be controlled via paddle shifters.
Big mistake for not getting the ‘Sound and sun’ which the navigation system comes with, But Bluetooth, keyless start, and a third-row seat, and stability control is standard. Tire pressure monitor standard the rear bumper flips down for easy access to the cargo hold, which is great, LED tail lights are a nice touch.
Plenty of space cargo, hidden compartment , with as many as 8 cup holders, and 3dc, 1ac adapter. Large mirrors, tinted windows great visibility all around.
Much greater looking then Honda or Toyota, which you see every ware you look.

I have it now for couple of moths over 4000 miles.
Miles are not that great on highway 27 to 28 if going over 70mph will drop to 25.
City like any other SUV miles drop rapidly.
The windows are tightly shut but you still get Road Noise which is substantial but I thing the Goodyear tires are the greater contributor to this.
You also do not realize when the shifting takes place it is smooth. Cornering and getting of the ramp is smooth.
The stereo dash board is kind of hard to see on a sunny day.
I thing the Mitsubishi Outlander, is much batter then the other SUV’s of its class I test drove. It has more standard options then the others. Much better looking ok it has some flows but there is life other then a Toy. I like it. tk

A Sure Bet!

Pros: Powerful Engine, Beautiful Interior, Great Value

Cons: Too good to be true?

Review: This review is based on the XLS version of the 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander. The CNET review is pretty accurate but I feel that the reviewer would have given a higher score if he would have test drove a model with leather and all the technology features enabled. Our model is one month old and we already took it on a family road trip from South Florida to Montreal, Canada without a single issue. Some reviews have complained about the "big mirrors" blocking your view, but most people I know already know what's in front of them, I think the "big" mirrors are great for improving visibility rearward, where it's need most! The styling and quality of materials is excellent contrary to some opinions on the Internet. We compared this vehicle to the Nissan Murano, Mazda Tribute, Toyota Highlander and the Mitsubishi won by a long shot... plus, it has an extraordinary safety rating! Enjoy your new Mitsubishi, or go get one!
