"Smooth Fun to Drive and Very Comfortable Daily Driver" on by vikta1
Pros: Gas Efficiency, Built like a tank, You can feel it in the ride, Solid uni-body construction. Looks are cool!! Size is Medium not to large or small, Just Right. Motor is Powerful for a CUV of this size. Vista Sun Roof. Sync works Great. Love it. Excellent
Cons: Heavy AWD 4,288 pounds. Interior is dated. not a fan of bonded plastic chrome wheels. long wheel base takes getting use to. Blind spot mirrors need to be added. no passenger power seat. Driver recline is manual. Have to remove air intake to change plugs.
Summary: I test drove numerous vehicles in several months. I couldn't afford new so went with Certified Vehicle with only 34,000 miles on it for 22,800 dollars US. this price is a bit high about 1000, till 2000 high depending on cleanliness of vehicle, features and condition(s), of motor transmission and drivetrain. Mines on a scale of 1-10 was a nine. I also find it extremely difficult to find the color sunroof and condition vehicle I wanted in this price range. Supplies where very limited. Purchased early May, 2011.
Long wheelbase makes for smother riding especially on highways. But more difficult to maneuver tight turns. the Motor was extremely impressive and super clean inside. no marks on cams easily visible through cap. Near Zero emissions ahead of its time. Motor runs cool. Shifting is mostly precise except when slowing down and excellerating quickly it might kick in a little. this only happen 3% of the time probably my fault due to indecisiveness on my part as a driver. When first started getting use to it and with out the blind spot mirrors I added. After the blind spot mirrors I drove this mid sized CUV like a car. I chose large spot mirrors. High Comfort level for all passengers! especially the rears ones. Size is a plus with Exterior not being large and Interior being extremely Spaces. Drive has many choices for customizing his or her own layout with controls and display information. Sync works great for this year vehicle. USB AUX inputs, several lighter inputs four of them. Cargo space is adequate. Sunroof is amazingly large two of them. Sunroof controls work great. Styling is very good seeming almost timelessly simple. The Uni-Body construction is fully up to dated and feels like a tank, no kidding. Road feedback is good, But steering feel is a bit dull. Stock Radio is more then adequate for most. I disliked the chrome plastic covers bonded to the alloy rims would have preferred polished alloy wheels instead. the center armrest is of good size and compartment is huge. great legroom hip room shoulder room head room for all.
I am getting 18 miles per gallon City miles in Dover NJ area. And clocked 25 miles per gallon highway route 80 and 287 back and forth several times already. On a AWD SEL. at least this is what the average miles per gallon info display reads. I was using cruise control 85% of the trips. On the highway that is. I really did want foreign until I test drove them and after final inspections was not impressed at all with foreign vehicles, except for paint was better and some rode smother. But honestly none appeared better once sitting in them and ran better, in fact it seemed all others ran worst looked less clean, had more major difficulties and poor reviews. The lexus RX330 in this price range had a crap transmission. Mirano only had one good year and none where for sale 08' Infinities just looked odd to me, Mazda CX7 uses a turbo with premium gas and dose not get as good gas milage. BMW X5 is a joke, just looks great. All the others where just too expensive. and I didn't like the X3 size or looks of that matter. I also test drove the Escape and didn't like the size much plus gas millage wasn't any better one or two maybe and the ride was noticeably more choppy. Not comfortable at all and seemed inferior in most aspects.
Honestly this vehicle has the best bang for the buck, first starting with the Drive Train with a solid track record, gas millage and very low emissions, being best in class. Second Styling. Being simple and sophisticated at the same time. I got Certified which made all the difference, trust me on this. Till April 2014 on drive train warranty. 150+ point inspection, minimum 50% tire treads, new brake pads and all fluids in perfect conditions. this was the closest I could find to new at about 12-15 thousand less. Another strong point was my vehicle was off lease and not from a dealer auction.
I also had Ravelco installed and saved on full coverage insurance. don't let them tell you that you have to have full coverage on a loan you don't! but it's your choice of course. Code hopping alarms work OK but not great.
Ultimately it might come down to what suites you best or your needs. I found this vehicle a excellent choice for me, my wife and friends. I also was pleasantly surprised and how Ford went all out on this CUV and made a complete winner.
Probably best to have some one in the know with you on a test drive since I did see a few Edge's out there that where not up to this standard. I felt I got lucky finding one this clean smooth and with very low miles, so I paid the higher price with out hesitation. Best of luck to all you searching. -
"2008 Ford Edge SEL is a great buy compared to 2009 Nissan Murano." on by nacooper25
Pros: Takes Only Regular Gas, Huge Panoramic Vista Roof, MS SYNC featuring Blue Tooth, Comfortable Smooth Ride, Roomy, Good Gas Mileage, Stylish, Less Expensive, Great Options
Cons: Cloth interior could be a little better quality
Summary: The 2008 Ford Edge SEL is an unexpected high-tech vehicle from an American car maker. The new crossover is stylish, roomy, and offers drivers the everyday conveniences that they will really need and use. Microsoft SYNC works with all Bluetooth wireless. I have have four different phones hooked up to it and they all worked including a Sanyo, a HTC Mogul, a Blackberry and a Samsung. The system talking me through it made SYNC setup a cinch fr my phone and Ipod MP3 player. There's no need to program a voice for SYNC picks up any human voice for commands. This crossover has brought high tech features to the average car buyer and made them simple enough for ANYONE to use. Also, is less to fill up on gas than a Nissan Murano, Altima, or minivan. This crossover is a real treat for those who want that extra UUMMMF out of their vehicle.
