"Plagued with problems" on by eastcoastlizzie
Pros: I can fit 7 people in this SUV
Cons: It has been plagued with repairs
Summary: Here is some of the service history for this car:
3 shocks replaced, 2 computers replaced, both batteries replaced, link rods seized, main console replaced, rear windows repaired, driver window repaired, sensors faulty, scalloping on all sets of tires, rear hatch lock drained battery- took 3 mos to diagnose and fix while car lost power overnight,
transmission clunking (apparently it was a programming problem), trunk latch broke AGAIN, trailer hitch lost all power
Mercedes has said there are no suspension problems now that they have fixed the seized link rods but they still cannot explain why all sets of tires have had to be replaced due to scalloping. The service technician said the shifting in the car felt like it was being hit from behind (clunking) and has now fixed it. Given the issues with the suspension and the transmission I have asked MB to extend the warranty at no charge. Needless to say we have experienced expense and inconvenience due to all the problems and we thought that would be a reasonable resolution. MB has refused. I hope to get rid of it. -
"Dosen't live up to MB image" on by Kuzhimattam
Pros: Superior Diesel Engine and transmission
Cons: Too numerous!
Summary: This SUV did not live up to the hype of Mercedes.
The infotainment system is the worst I have seen in a luxury car. The controls are poorly designed and hard to use. The integration of the system is one of the worst I have seen. Tire pressure sensor is the dumbest I have seen.. It tells you that pressure is low.. but you have to figure out in which tire and by how much.
Many of the components failed in the first year of ownership requiring several visits to the dealer. Oil level sensor was replaced twice within the first 2 months. Tires and brakes wore out before 20k miles.. Blue totth adapter is a $500 option, but is not well integrated. Mine failed after 12 months and 6 days. Trailer hitch had to be fixed (there was a recall) which required a 2 day visit to the dealer. Finally, two days ago, the new Bluetooth adapter, Satellite radio, Compass, and all speakers decided to quit working. I have already scheduled another dealer visit to fix it.!
I will NOT buy another Mercedes EVER! -
"Outstanding SUV - Sylish, comfortable, functional - AWESOME!" on by bj021
Pros: Best ride ever (if you like smooth as silk) / Power 3rd seat / Styling/Entertainment system/Did I say ride? :-).
Cons: Sound system could have more bass - had to say something
Summary: It's very hard to name just a couple things about this SUV that I love. Because it's everything together that makes it so great. The entertainment system is unreal. If you had 4 people traveling with you - with the rear entertainment system, each person could be listing or watching their own media. The diesel motor is very powerful and plenty quick. Also, I get high 20's on the highway...I can drive for 650 miles. Don't let the low HP scare you - it's all about torque, and this baby has tons of it! Gear shifter is on the tree when it belongs as it frees up the console for drink holders, etc. As the saying goes, if it had a bathroom, I would live in it!
Side note: I drove an X5 the other day with the sport suspension, almost pulled over to put in a mouth guard, nearly chipped some teeth it was so bouncy! -
