Summary: I think the editor's rating is a little harsh. I just purchased this SUV this week. I also own an AUDI S4 and have to say that this 5,000 pound vehicle is almost as fast (That is saying something). I drove the ML350 as well, and can say that as good as that drives, the ML550 is light-years beyond in terms of sheer enjoyment. The passing power puts you at ease immediately and while the ride is surefooted, it is still forgiving and allows for a quite, nice ride. The fit and finish is excellent, with every option you would expect from a luxury car nowadays. Unlike a certain editor's review, I disagree. I think that the interior is extremely plush with its brushed silver and wood accents. It is exactly what I have come to expect from Mercedes or any other luxury car maker.

It is not all roses, however, I do have 3 cons to the otherwise blissful experience. The layout of the COMAND interface is not perfect, a simple dial would be far superior to the knob you are forced to click to use the nav system. The ipod integration only works from the steering wheel buttons which doesn't seem very safe or convenient if the passenger and driver don't agree on music selections (you would think the German engineers would have realized that the passenger's needs are important too). The "fish-eye" back-up camera could be vastly improved. It is very similar to what I have seen on other vehicles now and while it allows you to see everything behind you, it is distorted and sure doesn't give you a sense of confidence parallel parking. I have to admit that the backup camera system on the AUDI Q7 puts all others to shame--Mercedes needs to take notes on that one.

Other than those few detriments, I can't say enough wonderful things about this vehicle. It is a true driving enthusiast's SUV with luxuriously sporty looks to match. If it weren't for those minor flaws, it would be a perfect 10 in my book. Mercedes did a wonderful job on this one.
