We like its revamped exterior and we can live with the spartan cabin, but its gas mileage falls short. | The 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid has the practical configuration of a small SUV, along with the low emissions and good fuel economy of a hybrid. Its cabin electronics are up-to-date, although not extraordinary. | The 2008 Saturn Vue XR is a stylish performer with some advanced optional cabin technology, including an intuitive touch-screen navigation and music system. | We failed to find much that was special about our 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid and even with few options, it was expensive. Its hybrid system is its best feature, justifying most of the price. The Limited model is nicer in every way and can be optioned with navigation and a better stereo. | With the 2007 FJ Cruiser, Toyota scores with a styling statement that has the substance to back up its retrocool image. It offers on-road comfort and good space with serious off-road ability. At 17mpg, fuel economy is its weakness. |
