At about $20 less than the competition, the EasyDisk flaunts some of the lowest prices we've seen. Only the Dioneer USB Memory drive offers a comparable cost, and they both come in a myriad of capacities: 16MB ($29), 32MB ($39), 64MB ($59), 128MB ($89), and 256MB ($159).

The small, slender drive has a matte-silver finish and a pocket clip. It works with Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, and XP, as well as Linux 2.4x and Mac OS 9 or higher. However, the EasyDisk doesn't work with the first edition of Windows 98, and Windows 98 SE users have to install drivers first. Like the Dioneer USB Memory drive, the EasyDisk includes a USB extension cord.

Despite the lower price, the EasyDisk comes with more useful utilities than most other USB flash drives. A security program allows you to password-protect some or all of your data. A formatting utility will clean your disk, and it can add system files to make your keychain drive bootable (if your system supports booting from USB). The drive also has a write-protection switch.

EasyDisk's support is limited. The company's Web site has plenty of FAQs, drivers, and manuals, but at the time of this review, tech advice is available via e-mail only. The drive is covered by a one-year warranty.

The EasyDisk provides all of the features you'd want in a keychain drive at a tough-to-beat price, making it one of our top choices in this category.

Great replacement for the floppy

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I got the EasyDisk as a gift (with 128Mb) and use it all the time. It's handy for transferring files from the laptop to my main PC or to share with other people. Beats using "Split-it" utilities to move large files. My only caveat is that the cap can come off fairly easily and gets stuck in the little pouch they provide. Also, support is limited, but not much you need with this...plug and play.

The one you have to buy!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I live in Canada, Quebec and I bought the 128 mb model 3 weeks ago. I really enjoy this product because I can always carry a lot of data in my pocket and it works on any computer that has a usb port and it's plug-and-play on many Operating system. This is very usefull at school and when I want to share files with my friends. There is only one things I don't like about the product: the cap that doesn't lock but I don't care about it because I carry it in the leather case they gave with it. In fact, the easy-disk is cheap and it offers interesting features like the data encryption. I bought it on Ozymoto, the price was lower and it was free shipping.

Free at last, free at last, free at last!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I have the 128 MB device. As a computer trainer I have to travel the country to different client sites and install custom software. Uploading custom databases has become very quick and easy because of EasyDisk. Before, I had to install from one CD and then upload my database from another CD (as you may know, switching CDs isn't a very fast process.) Also, CDs offer no option for saving any changes to your files (and I have yet to see a burner on any corporate computer). But now, I can install software and upload data almost concurrently. I've saved a lot of time for myself. Plus, since EasyDisk acts like a hard drive, saving updates or new files to it is as easy as drag-and-drop. I would not hesitate recommending EasyDisk for anyone who travels who needs the capacity and flexibility of a hard disk, but the portability of a CD. The only caveat is that you need to install the included driver on Win98SE. This isn't an issue, though, as it only takes about a minute and only has to be done once. One huge feature I find invaluable is the write-protection switch. Flip it on and your data will protected from inadvertant changes. The included password option is a great feature for keeping your data private. You may read about the neck strap not working very well. But think about it, who would want to WEAR this thing around their neck? For you kids, if wearing computer accessories is what something important to you, then you may need to look elsewhere. For adults who have real uses for high capacity, speed, and portability, then this little device works great! Thumbs up!

It doesn't pay!!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: A little cheaper than similar products due to the case which is very fragile. In addition, no software can be run like flashmail and so on, then it's completely useless

Don't buy this!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I can't believe so many people have given this EasyDisk such a good rating. My main problem with it is the quality and design. The cap has no locking or clasping mechanism so it just slips off in the worst of times. The part that attaches to your key ring or included neck strap is on the device itself and not on the cap. This means that in order to use you must either put the device in the USB port with your keys on it dangling or take it off of the keyring or neck strap. For the money I payed for this product, $92 with shipping, the quality should be much much better.

EasyDisk is Easy to use

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I don't normally take the time to post messages on these review sites, but after reading that some users returned thier EasyDisk and complained about their support, I thought I should give my 2 cents. I love my EasyDisk, I have never had any problems using it on any of my machines at home or at work. Including Windows 98/SE. I use mine so much that I actually misplaced my cap and thought I was out of luck. I emailed EasyDisk looking to buy a replacement cap and they were nice enough to send one out to me for free. I would recommend their stuff to anyone.

WILL NOT BOOT - Tried Everything!!!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I am an IT consultant - and spend way to much time rebuilding microsoft OS's. I thought this would be great. It could replace my boot floppy, be faster, more reliable. I was very disapointed to discover that this thing will not boot - even with BIOS that are supposed to support booting usb. I read all docs, used all the latest tools, have the latest bios, tried multiple motherboards, etc. WILL NOT BOOT!!!

great price! great device!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I found the 64mb version for about $40 at outpost.com. At this price, this is a great buy! I can transfer large files easily without needing to take the time to burn a CD. It's fast and couldn't be easier. Just plug it into a computer and you have a new drive to drag and drop files too. You can even make it bootable.

Bye Bye ZIP

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Don't need to buy zip drives on my new computers anymore! Works great (using recent purchase Win XP PCs). Not as fast as a hard drive, but still pretty peppy. I bought one of the colored ones from outpost and I don't have any flimsiness problems. My only concern is losing it because its so small.

It's everything I needed, and wanted

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I have the 128mb version of this little guy, and let me tell you, all those stupid people who still say they need a floppy, have no idea, almost all computers within the last 3-4 years have at least 1 usb drive port, and if it does why not ditch the pitch of a 1mb flat piece of toast (floppy disk) and just plug in this baby and bam, you have 16 floppy's right around your neck, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.....

Know what you're buying

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Be careful when you buy the colored Easydisk on Outpost.com . On the Easydisk site, they endorse the new colored model on Outpost, but they fail to tell you that the colored models are not the same design as the standard traditional grey design with the white cap. The colored design on Outpost does not have the pen clip! It's a stripped down version. It looks and feels flimsier. It is completely different from the grey one you see on the Easydisk site. I made the mistake of buying the colored one on Outpost and when I realized it was a cheaper design, I immediately returned it. I am upset at Easydisk and Outpost for their misleading advertisement. I wouldn't mind the funky color, but I object to the missing pen clip and the flimsier design. If Easydisk is trying to introduce another model, then it should say so in the description and sell it at the lower price. If Easydisk is trying to test market a new model on Outpost, then I can tell them that I don't like the cheaper design and the missing pen clip. I like the standard traditional grey design much better.

I carry Easydisk as my keychain all the time.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I bought the 128 Mb Easydisk. I attached my keys on the key holder and use it as my keychain! I carry Easydisk in my pocket all the time, from work to home, to university, to business trips, conferences, computer trade shows and stores. I store my curriculum vitae on it, address book, contact names, e-business card, MP3, digital pictures of me and my girlfriend, family pictures, Powerpoint presentations, useful utilities, program code, all the files of a Web site I am maintaining. I even save a complete chess program on it so I can plug Easydisk into a computer in an Internet coffee shop and play my favorite games on the road! Very cool. There is a lot of use for it, if you know how to be creative. Newer and smaller laptops do away with floppy drive, so I use Easydisk to transfer files via usb with higher speed and with much more data. Easydisk is not the only usb flash/pen drive on the market. I did research and comparison with other disks and I find that Easydisk offers the best bang for the buck at the moment. It's relatively inexpensive for the features and performance it offers. Easydisk and other people claim that it won't work on Windows 98 First Edition, but guess what, I try it anyway and it works on Win 98 first edition! But first, you have to download the patches, service packs and keep Win 98 up to date, then download and install the newest driver from the Easydisk site. Your Easydisk drive will then work on Win 98 "First Edition" !! I try it and I love it. A cool useful hi-tech gadget!

Good bye Zip, Hello Freedom

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This is an advance in computer freedom. Just plug, download, back out and carry to the office or any compter with a USB port. Not for older computers with Windows 98 or unpatched Windows 98. modern tool for state of the art computers. Only drawback, one has to read the instructions and follow the removal protocol which is quick, fast and safe.

Pros:

Cons:

Kiss your floppies and zip disks goodbye!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I am involved in testing Windows operating systems and I needed an easy way to move test files to each system under test. Easydrive is the perfect solution since some systems do not have functioning floppy drives, but all of them have a USB port. I have used it in Win 2K/XP/ME and Win 98se (with the drivers).

Wait for the price Drop

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Excellent idea, been waiting for this for ages. A simple, easy to load, light-weight, powerless, lockable, keychain-of-a-hard-disk... But the cost is still too high. You can right now, purchase any USB SmartMedia adapter, and a 128MB card for $60 total. The only disavantage, no keyring. Cost of equivalent easydisk, $90.

Cons:

Review: The unit I purchased (64MB) died after 3 days of use! Build quality is low, I would be very weary of purchasing from this company.
