Cons So yeah, this drive died on me.. I lost a good 80gb worth of data I would have rather held on to, and no i didn't have a lot of important stuff backed up. But WD eased my frustration by sending me a new one quickly. on | Read full review

"WD is the way to go!"
onSummary I have used Western Digital 40GB, 60GB, 80GB and 120GB drives in computers. I presently have a 120GB with a 80GB back up. The drives work well together. Hundreds of giga bytes of data has been passed between these drives as I have processed DVD videos of our family. All of my WD drives have performed well. The only reason I replaced them is my need for--More Storage!

Cons About three times over the life of this drive, file system erroirs were reported on bootup. Sure wIsh i had took these warnings more seriously. on by noodle2 | Read full review

"Died hard in 9 days...lost all my data"
onSummary Drive smart failed after 9 days of use (click, whirr...clunk - repeat). I lost all my data. I've got a new replacement, but I'm leery now. Logic tells me that it must be an isolated failure, but that doesn't seem to help.

"This is my BackUp Drive & it Die after 3 weeks w/ all my work."
onSummary I was initially excited about this hard drive as it had decent reviews here @ Cnet. I also had heard a lot about this line of hard drives being very unreliable and prone to failure, but thought that i would purchase it anyway and see for myself. The first two weeks it worked fine, now I'm on 3rd week and for some reason it started to make noise and crash. I lost two weeks of work. The second HD I have is a WD also and it is starting to make some noise.

"Best drive I have ever owned."
onSummary Much quieter and faster than any other hard drives I have owned. I leave my computer on almost constantly and have never had any problems with this drive so far. The drive seems to be able to do more at once than my other drive with a 2MB buffer. The 8MB does make a definite performance increase especially when dealing with very large files.

"Fastest IDE drive i ever had."
onSummary This drive out runs one of my other computers with a SCSI hardrive. Extremely fast and a nice amount of space.

Cons The drive failed after 10 months of normal use, with nor warning. WD Support was easy to deal with, but the product was replaced with a refurbished item, instead of new. Overall, I still believe these are the best drives. on | Read full review

Cons Failed abruptly. Started clicking and the dreaded error message "Disk Failure..." appeared. on | Read full review

Cons This damn thing is loud. Not to disparage those who say it's quiet, I'm assuming they have their PC in the next state or something. With my PC on my desk, it sounds like a bloody Harrier hovering. If you like the sound of a screaming turbine, you'll love on | Read full review

"I was made a believer"
onPros Bought it to replace my IBM, that was on it's last legs. Installation was a breeze with the software provided, and I am by no means a techie. It's in a P-3 Gateway running 300 megs, and it recognized the whole 120 Gigs. I have been renning it all week ins
