"The best AV out there!"
on by stoneysilencePros Small, no stress on system, some of the best protection available
Cons Interface isn't the easiest in the world.
Summary This AV has to be the best AV I have ever used. It is excellent for gamers who want a small footprint AV that give excellent protection. They update their AV database as needed (can be up to hourly). Well worth the money.

"Best antivirus at this moment.."
on by Tony N. VanPros Fast scanning as advertised, superb protection
Cons No firewall
Summary I just bought this anti-virus program at my local tech-shop and I'm satisfied. I had to purchase this anti-virus for my new comp because Kaspersky permanently slowed down as well as altered my computer.
Stay away from Kasperky products!!! -
"The best--buy it now"
on by whjacobsPros Fast , accurate, comprehensive protection.
Cons None so far.
Summary I bought a 2-computer license for the home office version of the anti-virus + firewall suite , uninstalled Symantec, and never looked back (and will never go back to Norton). Standard installation was a breeze, but there are enough advanced tweaks in the custom installation to satisfy any IT manager or geek. And if you do have a question, their tech service folks (based at their CA headquarters) are great. Communicating with them was a real pleasure. They understood my question without me having to repeat it slowly 5 times, and I easily understood their solution. My computer runs much faster now. Updates are usually daily, and lightening fast. It has blocked spyware for me and done exactly what it is supposed to do (which is more than I can say for the bloated Norton product). I highly recommend this product.

"The BEST option out there, period"
on by LANjackalPros Fast, easy installation, set-and-forget, highly granular preferences, practically zero system overhead
Cons Automatically updates virus definitions only, software version updates have to be done manually
Summary Having used the gamut of security software (McAfee, Norton, Trend Micro, F-Secure, Kapersky, in that order) I'll tell you that it doesn't get much better than NOD32.
Installation is fast and easy. Configuration is extremely granular but logical and easily understandable thanks to the updated GUI. Best of all, NOD is very unobtrusive, keeping notifications to a minimum. The most I've seen is a translucent popup over the system tray when the definitions are updated, and the popup automatically goes away after a couple seconds.
NOD is practically unnoticeable in terms of system overhead, though it will grab and scan downloaded executables and archives, causing a bit of lag in your browser's download manager, but that's excusable. Aside from that, you'll never know it's running.
The only major drawback of NOD that keeps me from giving it a 9 or a perfect 10 is the fact that its autoupdate feature apparently doesn't include versions of the software itself. I find this ridiculous as the subscription is time-based as opposed to version-based like most other security products. For example, I started out on v2.x and upgraded to 3.0 for free, but I had to do it manually. It should be automatic.
But that's my only major complaint. If you run Windows Vista, there's no need for a 3rd party firewall and spyware is already taken care of by Windows Defender, so save yourself some $ and spring for this relatively inexpensive AV product. You'll be glad you did.
BTW I run Vista SP1 -
"Horrible software - doesn't catch or recognize malware"

Summary
I've had 4 to 5 fake anti virus malware attacks in the past year while using eset and it didn't catch, clean or prevent any of them. I would do a full computer with eset while fake anti virus messages popping up constantly and it would tell me there were no infections. I had to use malwarebytes to remove them. whats really pathetic is these weren't new virus. I'd google the name of the malware and find a dozen pages describing the malware and how to remove it. I could understand a bit if it was brand new malware no one knew about but in all cases the malware had been around for months so eset should be aware of it and have a virus definition for it. but they don't. eset seems to do a decent job of catching trojans but does nothing to stop malware and according to google 15% of all malware out there is fake anti virus. this is pure incompetence on the part of eset not to keep up with the latest malware trends.
