"iolo created worse problems than it fixed."

by sdsparrow on February 3, 2009

Pros: Low price and lots of features.

Cons: I have HP and Acer notebooks (Vista) and a Dell desktop (XP). It worked okay at first but notebooks began to get unstable and issues with networking, shutdown, and trying to log on to email or access programs became troublesome if not impossible.

Summary: iolo installed easily and at first all of the scans I ran showed all of the things it was "fixing". It did seem to be running a lot, scanning this or that, which is what it is supposed to do, but unless you are very tech-savvy (I am pretty good) is a hard program to run. Small problems began to show up, then bigger ones. My Acer wouldn't shut down properly unless I turned off the Firewall and Virus protection first. I downloaded a software update onto my HP and I was locked out of my own network and no matter how many times I put in my access codes I couldn't get in. It killed all of the "remember me" usernames and passwords on my email and web sites. Once I uninstalled iolo my network problem was resolved immediately although I did have to reset all of my passwords. I have been a Norton user for many years, but I thought I would try something new when my Norton expired. (Yes, I did uninstall all Norton components first!) However, after using iolo for 28 days, I have uninstalled it on all three machines and gone back to Norton. iolo may be okay if you have a lot of time on your hands and can keep tweaking it to work for you. I don't have that kind of free time, so I go with more user friendly, if a more expensive, option. I got what I paid for, I guess!

Addenda: Their "90 Day Money Back Guarantee" is a farce. You have to jump through all kinds of hoops and stil they keep 15% of the money. After reading their policies and rules I just decided it wasn't worth it.
