"Over all, two thumbs up."
Pros: lighter weight, more durable, good battery, ...
Cons: ultra-sensitive to touch, screen orientation only 180*
Summary: Overall, I give this Gateway a thumbs up.
finally a smaller notepad offered by Gateway. Could not afford Fujitsu and would not recommend a Lenovo. Very flexible and they are probably trying to imitate Fujitsu's notepad but do not try to compare the two.
I have used a Gateway notepad for 4 years and should sell for the company - I have few comments:
1. the touch screen is great but super sensitive - be careful you do not activate the cutting feature OR worse when laying hand or arm on screen it will leave a mark that must be erased (this is a pain).
2. the pen, sometimes has a delay response from the start menu. Nothing tragic just inconvenient.
3. setting the biometric scan is soooo easy. Sadly, it is just soooo easy to erase or this could have been my first experience using this kind of log in. (not easy at all with the Fujitsu)
4. The screen has a magnificent very small picture (very clear) but many may need to adjust to a larger view.
5. I miss my extra buttons on the screen that allow to adj brightness, etc. these are on the larger model of which I still use.
6. Screen orientation - for those not familiar with Gateway the previous model did not auto adjust at all. This model only offers 180* and the button used on the screen to change orientation does not respond as quickly as on the larger model (???)
All told, it seems Gateway is trying to compete with the better lighter weight notepads like fujitsu or HP. I got a great deal on mine (1200) whereas on my older larger Gateway notepad it cost 2200+
(and do not regret a penny)
I did not get a warranty (ikes) but the customer service with Gateway is atrocious! worried about my last notepad so I paid for the longest best warranty of which they can never find when I need assistance - suffice to say I have not every been able to use that "really great" warranty - So I did not purchase a 2nd.
Overall this is a good notepad and it can hold its own. It is not the best you can buy but great for the money. I am holding out on a best rating until I use this a little longer.Updated
I did leave off an important piece of information - I purchased my Gateway notepad with MS XP because of existing compatibility issues with Vista and it interaction with older software. Considering others' comments this prevented me from experiencing other difficulties.
