Summary I've had this for 24 hours now and I can't get enough. It's taken a bit to get the bloatware off and get the Win7 updates and some virus protection, but I've also been surfing the web and I installed Steam so I could play a game or two.
First off, let's get one thing straight. Nothing beats a full OS. Period. Sure, I have an iPod Touch that I love and a Motorola Droid that I love. But nothing beats the power of a full OS. I installed Flash in an instant, I installed Chrome in a couple of instants (man IE is soooo slow), and now I put on full versions of software like OpenOffice & Steam. I plugged in a USB mouse and the included keyboard dock and I'm rocking and rolling.
The touchscreen is very responsive and accurate and it is surprisingly easy to use the touchscreen keyboard included in Win 7.
This screen is fantastic! Bright, clear, and a great resolution. Most netbooks run at 1024X600, but this goes up to 1280x800. So much fits on the screen and it is not all scrunched up. I went to YouTube and played several 1080p videos at full screen. I streamed some NetFlix movies through the browser (no special app needed, thanks full OS) both at full screen and smaller and the colors, brightness, and crispness was astounding.
Sure, the SSD is pretty small, only 32gb but really around 17gb after all the software is on. I removed a lot of the crap pre-installed by Acer, but that only saves around 500mb~1gb. Good thing there is are some USB ports so you can plug in some external drives. Or if you have an SD card, go ahead and plug that in. Try getting that on most of the tablets out there.
The keyboard dock is nice. It locks the screen in place, so don't try to adjust it, you only have one angle at which it sits. The keys are nicely spaced, so my hands don't feel cramped at all and typing is a breeze.
The dual core processor with built in graphics GPU is wonderful. After you eliminate the Acer bloatware and get a decent browser (FF or Chrome) this thing screams with 2gb of RAM. Sure, it's not a high end gaming rig, but that's not why I bought it. I have my gaming machine. This is for entertainment purposes and doing a little bit of work on the go. I played some Steam games just fine. Sure I had to drop the video settings, but if you want to play games at the highest resolutions then you need to buy a proper gaming machine.
The battery is only good for about 5 hours. Sure, some people will complain about that, but personally that won't be a problem.
I ordered this from Amazon on a Friday around 4pm and it was sitting on my doorstep Monday mid-morning. Holy Cow! That was fast shipping. Thanks Amazon!
It's $50 more than the cheapest iPad, $250 less than the Xoom, $500~$600 less than the average Win 7 tablet, and ~$100 more than your average Android based tablet. This is the best deal out there, hands down, no argument. And it comes with a keyboard!
A full OS, nothing beats it. If anyone tries to pump up the iPad or Android tablets saying they are "better", don't listen to them. Like I said, I'm a fan of Apple and Android, but don't kid yourself about the capabilities of them. Let me put it this way. The iPad needs to be synced with iTunes before it can even run for the first time. iTunes can only run on a full OS. This tablet can be used to get an iPad running. The iPad can't help this tablet in any way.
A great deal, lots of fun to use, and it does everything I need and more.

"Serious design flaw"on by ITlyon
Pros It's a tablet
Cons Power cord exceptionally short
Summary I wanted to share my Acer experience for those thinking about buying Acer. My son saved for over a year for his tablet. He bought the Acer Iconia A500. He did not get to use it though until he received the protective screen cover and case. We immediately found a problem with the unit. It had an incredibly short cord and so the tablet could only be charged on the floor or if we dragged a chair over, on the chair. We had a good run of 6 + months before his younger brother knocked the chair which knocked the tablet (1.5 feet to the ground no less) Of course the unit hit right where the case had a space and the plastic edge around the USB port cracked. The wifi now only works intermittently.
So I went to Acer support. First - their online support insisted the unit was no longer under warranty so I had to find the receipt and prove again when we bought it. It is still under warranty. Then to find the support phone number on their site was difficult so we 'spoke' to staff via chat. We received no satisfaction via the chat so it was escalated to a real person! The response was that he would have to pay $199.00 plus shipping for it to be fixed because he dropped it. The thing is, he didn't drop it. It fell because the unit has an incredibly short cord which is a design flaw created by Acer. Their response, no it isn't. "We only fix unbroken units under warranty and for normal wear and tear". I asked how this was not normal use since the cord determines what someone can do with the unit? Their response was to repeat the cost. So I asked to speak with a manager. The response? Our managers do not speak to customers. Really? Really? If you are looking for a tablet, I strongly urge you to select a different brand other than Acer because customer service is part of what you're paying for..and we apparently paid for nothing but script following folks who will not and cannot own that their system design was flawed. So I urge you - DO NOT BUY ACER.
Pros LONG Battery Life
Touch Screen is OK
Docking Station is OK
Cons Terrible mouse
Lacks USB Ports
Summary This is definitely a perfect first time tablet. I was very excited to get this tablet but after using it for a little while...it's whatever. It's like the Nintendo Wii when it first came out....everyone used it for a week...and now it hasn't been touched for a long time.
I will definitely say the battery life is LONG! I got at least 14 hours out of it on one charge and now get about 8-10 hours. I never even bring my AC to work with me because I don't need it until the end of the day. The touch screen is OK...not the best...not the worst. The docking station is OK...but the tablet overall lacks USB ports. I know it's a tablet...so it shouldn't have many USB ports but still it does lack USB ports.
Overall: great first time tablet but it does lack some big items.
Pros Win7 connectivity, peripherals galore, hook external drives with no problems, Blu ray disc playback capable. Screen is bright and viewing angle very wide.
Cons Battery life, keyboard latch system not as convinient as Asus Transformer
Summary A great preview of what's to come,PC Tablets FTW:)
Pros it is super fats. i can surf the web, write a report, listen to music and create a movie and be faster than my moms laptop. i can do anything that a normal desktop can do and it is portable and light. awesome battery life.
Cons i really have only one thing to say my only complaint is that the charger is touchy and if u even bump it it makes a beeping noise and wont charge which is really frustrating, but it still charges and has great battery life so it is worth it.
Summary i now use this for all my school projects and it is at good price it only took me a year of birthday money and some chores to get it i try as hard as i can to use it for all my school uses. it is very good with everything and if u don't want to use the touch screen u can attach it to the keyboard. i recommend it to anyone and everyone. if u dont have one get one way better than the ipad u want apps download intel app up. seriously, BEST THING EVER!!!!!!!!
