  • "5 lame aspects of the ipad (not including iTunes)"
    2.0 stars
    on by Dan_Philips

    Pros: - Feels well-made
    - Not too big

Cons: No background tasks sucks big time:
Try to share a link with someone and no multi-tasking.
Browser > to mail -> back to browser is a huge buzz kill.

Summary: Of all the reviews, I've never seen one saying what happens when you plug it in to your mac/pc itunes to actually, you know, make it work.

    0) (bonus) "An iPad has already been synched with this computer."

iBug: a phone is not an ipad.

    2) most iphone apps are minimized, and look lame when "embiggened"

    3) No background tasks sucks big time, especially when you want to say something on skype.

3b) Not getting used to the keyboard, either.

    4) Try to share a link with someone and no multi-tasking. Browser - to mail - back to browser is a huge buzz kill.

    5) Tabs?

    6) Flash unfortunately isn't just about movies and h.264. My kids can't use some math learning sites.

Sigh. Back to the laptop. This will be "good" for watching videos in the car. If only iTunes weren't such a nightmare.

3b cont. Do you own one? Can you make or show me a touchscreen keyboard that is better? It has a limitation and there is no way around that. It's not a computer.

    4. What was your problem with sharing a link? Copy the link, paste it into an email or IM or wherever else you want to share it. You didn't say very clearly the problem you had with sharing a link. Multitasking again? Like I said...it's coming.

    5. Tabs in browsing? Download Opera. The iPad is a platform. It's not the have all, end all device. Opera has tabbed browsing. Where else did you want tabs?

    6. Apple has stated clearly why they aren't supporting flash. If they had flash and multitasking without doing it right you'd be giving it a bad review because of the short battery life.

Finally, this isn't a laptop and it's not trying to be. It's trying to be a great mobile device and all the things you're complaining about seem to be because it's not a laptop.

Your numbering system is really weird. You have 0, no 1, and then you go to 6 in your five reasons.

    1. It's a new product. Of course it's going to have bugs. Show me a new product that didn't have bugs. Hell, show me any product that doesn't have bugs period.

    2. Of course. They are made for the iPhone. The part of the iPad that that lets you use them is just an added addition. They aren't minimized; they are in the size they were created. They don't look right when "embiggened" because that's not what they were made to do. How is this the iPad's fault? If you weren't allowed to use iPhone Apps on it you'd be complaining about that.

    3. Apple has been working on background processing for the iPhone and the iPad for a long time and they want to get it right. It's coming in a free update and it will be done right and in a way that doesn't compromise battery life. Why do people keep complaining about this?

3b. From your "review" it doesn't sound like you own one.

Well said, Probably you are the first one who pointed out all the problems in an understandable manner.
I see reviews from two kinds of people in cnet,

    1. Big Fans of Apple
    2. Big Haters of Apple.

So the reviews from the above two category people are useless.
