Pros: Ushering in a new category of media technology.

Cons: Glaring absence of features found standard in items of equal and lesser quality.

Summary: I?d have to more than lie to myself to justify the purchase of this. I cannot fathom why Apple didn?t include a webcam, an SD slot, USB port, and Mac OS considering the price! Yes, it is aesthetically pleasing and offers an intuitive, unique multimedia experience. However, six to 12 months from now when either the price drops by half (circa 1st gen iphone debacle) or 2nd gen release with new bells & whistles, I think there will be a lot of people with holes in their wallets and regret in their hearts?

Why would you write this??? QuanYin09 - have you read Atlas Shrugged? You are a moocher. You are stealing every readers time. REVIEWING a product you have not used is not smart, but this is rediculous. Yes it would be cool to have a camera, it would also be useful to have an SD slot, maybe a USB port... no I can attach USB via the adapter, don't need a huge gaping hole in the Ipad for that, and finally Mac OS ??? Are you kidding??? Rediculous! Are you being paid by a competitor?

Let me see if I understand you......you are writing a review for a product you don't own, haven't tried nor plan to purchase? If all this is true, refrain from posting any future "review" of products you have no practical knowledge of. I don't care if you love the iPad or hate it, your opinion doesn't count if you have never even used it

CNET should not allow people who don't own a product to write a review. It's so obvious this person doesn't own an iPad......the iPad is truly the most amazing piece of technology I have ever owned.

Please, no more fake reviews people! If I wanted to hear everyone's reasons for not buying an iPad themselves, I could read the tech news. What I expect from a review, is (1) the person to actually OWN the product in question and (2) have used it for more than a couple of hours. People who write down their reasons for not buying something they likely haven't even tried and calling it a product review, need to find something better to do with their vast amounts of free time.

@mattliptak, you must be very optimistic

I agree with some of your points but you are not looking at the bigger picture of this product. Where the iPhone has left off, this product has picked up. The number of applications that will come out for this product will make it almost a necessity. Newer features will eventually come out, but the overall is an all around great product that puts anything that HP is trying to invent to shame.

Only part of your review is actually reasonable. There are many different reasons to buy an iPad. Sure, the lack of camera, SD Card Slot, webcam, etc. take away from the device, but the features it does have, it blows the competition away.

It really does irk me that Apple has switched to this business model - Make an amazing prototype, remove obvious features, sell item, add one of the obvious features, sell version 2, repeat.

I think though, that most people know what it lacks when they're buying it. I plan on getting one and handing it down to a relative when v2 comes out.

Still waiting for an iPod Touch with a CAMERA!

All that aside, the iPad will be an amazing product when people start realizing what MORE it can do in a home setting. App developers are going to make this an amazing device.
