"No other device competes."4.5 starson by RLF1982
Pros: Excellent Screen
Great Battery Life
Cons: Needs Multitasking (On the way)
Needs SD Card Reader
Summary: There are a few things Apple could have done better with the iPad - certainly for the expensive price, and even if it might have added a few bucks to the bottom line. Particularly, an SD card reader seems like a no brainer for a media device like this, and it would have been incredibly useful. Of course, then it would be hard for them to justify charging such high prices for the higher memory versions of the iPad, but c'est la vie.
But for the device that it is, it does a GREAT job, and there is no other device that can compete. It's FAR more portable than any laptop, and runs almost any iPhone app, and is superb for viewing the web, as touch screen devices go. Yes it's annoying that it doesn't run flash, but honestly after owning the device for 5 months and spending plenty of time on it, I don't miss it much. And because Apple is such a big player in the field, most of the sites that would otherwise have relied on Flash now offer alternatives.
For me it wasn't hard at all to find a reason to buy it, even at $500 for the basic model. I use it to read my extensive collection of PDF books, for which no other device of any class can even begin to compete with it. And it's small enough that I throw it in a mini-messenger bag and take it with me everywhere I go. So anytime I'm sitting and otherwise doing nothing or waiting for something, I pull it out and read. That increase in my daily productivity alone justifies the price.
