"There is no better value high-end tablet"
on by CharbaxPros Fastest tablet in the world, yet 40% cheaper than ipad2 and competitors
Cons It could be even faster, it could have a Pixel Qi screen, but no other tablets do that
Summary Cnet is wrong on their Bads:
"The tablet is too large" what? It's just a screen, not much else.
"has awkward button placement" what? Honeycomb only has on-screen buttons just as Archos has been using since 2008.
"its single camera had poor recording quality" what? a front facing camera is meant to be used for video-chatting nothing else. It's wrong to expect high quality on flat smartphone or tablet cameras because a flat camera can never compete with even a $100 dedicated picture camera, it's simply impossible to include enough space for better optics in there. hat is needed is a decent quality for video-conferencing, this is the first tablet with 720p video-conferencing support. -
"Great value, low build quality"
on by basegiantsPros Great form factor, speedy OS and super fast connectivity. Kickstand. Plays almost any file type.
Cons Screen ripples on the left side when pressed from the back. Buttons could be better placed. VOlume doesnt get super loud.
Summary This is the first tablet I have ever purchased but I handle them all the time since I am a technology salesmen for a national chain. The archos definitely is worth it for the money if you are looking for a great media tablet. The OS is quick and full featured and the 3x4 aspect ratio feels nice. It has a good weight to it and a decent camera, which was improved by the latest firmware update. Both Wifi and GPS are blazing fast and connect almost instantly to any open network.
The hardware isnt bad but is still plastic. The display is not flush with the bezel and sits about .25mm below the surface. It only really matters when youre scrolling and scrape your finger over the edge. Its not sharp but it is noticeable. The buttons are in sort of a weird spot considering its right where you put your hands but I hardly find myself accidentally pressing them.
The display, although not as bright as the competitors, is nice and clear with decent viewing angles. I dont notice and difference in quality based on how I hold it. the sound is clear but can be muffled since the speaker is located on the backside. The kickstand is very helpful but does seem a little weak.
The only downside I have found so far is with the actual build quality of the display. Simply by touching it lightly on the left side would cause the screen to ripple. This is caused by the backside of the display coming in contact with internal hardware. There are 3 distinct point of contact; 2 near the USB 3G stick and one directly in front of the camera.
The ripples caused by the USB stick are actually the result of 2 clips on either side of the port jabbing into the screen. After some minor surgery I was able to remove the clips and resolve that issue. But I still remain with the speaker ripples. As of right now Archos has no fix for this. As soon as I figure out how to get into the device without breaking it I will resolve the issue. -
"The Archos 80 is an excellent value!"
on by kb5ynfPros I've had the 80 G9 for a week and I like it very much. I also have the 70 and the 101 from the last generation of Archos tablets and the G9 is just an upgrade from that generation. More RAM, faster CPU and a nicer display make this a very decent tablet. I
Cons Yes, the buttons could be better placed but they're basically the same as the model from last year and the case is the same as well so I don't really think the design is rushed. Having used this design for about a year now, my opinion is that the button p
Summary Overall, I think the Archos is a very good buy. No device is perfect and you can nitpick one to death but in the end, this one does what it is supposed to do.

"Best Tablets in the World!"
on by archostabletsPros 10.1 excellent touch screen
Very useful kickstand
Only android tablet with 250 GB of storage
1.2GHz processor (Texas Instruments very Fast)
There is also a slower version such as the 8 GB which is 1.0 GHz processor.
Nice and slim design, very lightCons Archos could have included some aluminum instead of it being all plastic (but that would increase the weight.)
