"Workhorse tablet."on by Azger
Pros Keyboard, nice clean android load, fast, excellent battery life, good camera
Cons A little heavy for a tablet, long charge time (hot charger!) Longer boot time than other tablets. Screen washout in strong sun.
Summary Love it.
I bought this as a replacement for a Samsung Galaxy Tab that I did not quite love out of the box. This thing does real work. I just shot 3 hours of UX QA-test video, using it as a backup camera. It took great video and it was easier to use than the Nikon D5100 on the tripod. The battery lasts a couple of days. I feel perfectly comfortable not having to lug my Dell Latitude E6510 around. With a micro mouse, it is a pretty acceptable laptop alternative.
Kudos to Google for making Android better with each release, and creds to Asus for a nice clean distro that is uncluttered with fluff and crud and has a lot of useful basics. Nice cloud integration too, and for no extra cost.
The real bonus is support for SD and microsd, USB & tethering - it's a nice hub tool for media exchange, demoing media and social media. I particularly liked the fact that it happily found my NAS server and will stream media off it without a hiccup. it will even connect with USB hard drives.
Ergonomically, I find its slight fatness comfortable for reading, with a very positive hand feel thanks to the the grippy, beveled back. Might not be the prettiest of the bunch, but its homely.
28 year computer corp veteran of DEC, Compaq, HP, and Dell and this is my all time favorite little handheld computing device bar none. (sorry iPaq). I've actually used early "road warrior" thin and light notebooks that were not much bigger than the Asus. (and cost $3000).
Pros The Tf300 is light, compact and fast. Don`t let the plastic body sway you, its sturdy yet light. We have an iPad2 and a first gen Transformer 101, and this tablet beats both.
Cons No flash for camera is a biggie for me, i like taking pics of the kids on Christmas morning with the iPad, but can't with this one, but it isn't a deal breaker. Lack of accessories is also a con, but hopefully more companies will step up and produce.
Summary Much improved over the original Transformer, and lighter and fast (on my home wi-fi) than the iPad2. I'm using it now to complete this review.
Pros Build quality, GPS sensitivity, on-board storage.
Cons Performance, glass, lack of aftermarket accessories.
Summary I really wanted to like this tablet. This is the first Android product I have ever owned )and I have owned over 15) that I left in factory configuration. No messing with aftermarket ROMs, no rooting, just plain-Jane Android with updates pushed from Asus. It gets in these moods where it completely locks up and the home screen disappears. The only thing that fixes it is a hard re-boot. I always keep an eye on how much is going on in the task manager and to be honest, it should be able to handle the workload I give it (Chrome, Pandora, Co-Pilot at the same time). It has been relegated to GPS duty in my off-road vehicle as it is too unreliable as a work "go-to" device. And don't think that perhaps this is a bad individual unit. This is my 2nd personal TF300T and I also purchased one for my wife and all have the exact same issues. I think I am just going to wait a couple more years and see if someone brings one to market that is ridiculously over-spec'd, (Kind of like when all the i7 desktops first starting hitting the market).
Pros Excellent alternative to iPad, very light weight, very powerful.
Cons I can't think of any!
Summary I bought one for my dad when his laptop crapped out. I was so pleased to have a good alternative to iPad, I'm simply not of the Apple universe, nor do I wish to convert. Android has a lot more free apps and this is a tremendous Android machine!
Pros excellent hardware perfomance
Cons easy to crack screen display, bad ASUS service slow response, expensive to repair if the tablet cost $479 the service for replacement screen will be $300. very bad communication between costumer and support
Summary good tablet, just when you are going to menu applications the background is black I don't know why?
