Summary: Be patient with all of my comments on different devises. A very good conclusion is reached regarding my reason for buying the Nook HD+. I purchased the 32gb version last month based on CNET's recommendation. I had already tried the ASUS Memo Pad 7 and 8 inch versions which were good except for screen brightness. The same was true of the ASUS 10" FHD which had good resolution but poor screen brightness. I liked the Jellybean OS but the brightness issue was too big a negative. Returned all three. Then I got a great deal at Office Depot on a Dell Venue PRO 8" 32gb for $225. In the store the screen was muted and salesperson said it was the overhead lighting causing the problem. I knew that wasn't the problem. He said just try it and if not pleased just return it within 30 days. I have always used MS Office so I gave it a try. Don't like Win 8.1, but was happy with the Office Suite. I figured out how to disable the default screen display but still short on brightness. But the biggest issue was the lack of Windows Apps, just pitiful. So I returned it. Finally, I bought the Kindle Fire HD PLUS 8.9" 32GB MODEL. Absolutely the most excellent screen resolution and brightness quality on the planet. $420 was a bit much, but WOW, WHAT A DISPLAY! HAPPINESS short-lived. What a restrictive OS! I loved the display so much I tried for three weeks to get it to recognize apps I needed for my work. No success. If you don't do things Amazon's way, it's only good for reading and watching movies. Sadly, I had to return it.My rating for this review should be five stars. I don't know why it displays differently.
Now, to my reason for buying the Nook HD +: I stumbled on the Cnet review and was impressed. I bought it and was quickly impressed with all Cnet had to say. The no camera factor not an issue, I will use my iphone. Text is very sharp, display brighter than ipad or Kindle. All my needed apps load with no problem, especially Aldiko Premium. Paid $14.95 for upgrade on Office Pro Suite. The 9" size is perfect for me as it weighs less than ipad or Kindle. Battery life not as good as other devices, but for the insanely low price it will be fine. Now viewing screen at about 50% and it's good. Paired it with ECO-V300 Bluetooth phones from Amazon for $29.00 bucks and all is well. I give it five stars for my needs. Hope these comments prove helpful.
