The m130 delivers all of the features that you want in a Palm PDA--including a color screen--for a price that doesn't break the bank. The screen is a tad small, but if you can forgive that shortcoming and you have good eyesight, this model looks pretty attractive. The m130's standout design element is its color, transflective STN screen, which is very small at just two inches across. In most other ways, the m130 is identical to the monochrome Palm m125; they both come with a two-toned faceplate and a rubberized screen cover with a little window. This model's overall design isn't as slick as that of the step-up m515, but the m130 is fairly compact. And though this 5.4-ounce PDA is not as slim as some Sony CLIE models, it's not hefty either.

The Palm is larger than a deck of playing cards. It's slightly thicker than a deck, too.

At the top of the device, you'll find a small slot for adding additional memory and compatible accessories. Look around back, and you'll notice that there's no place to add batteries because unlike other m100-series devices, the m130 has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. You can juice up this cell in the included USB HotSync Cradle with the power adapter attached. More good news: The m130 will work with all accessories--such as keyboards and digital cameras--made for Palm m500-series models since it's equipped with the same universal connector.

Juice it up: The cradle acts as a power and syncing station. You have connections: The m130 works with most m500-series accessories.

Forget ginkgo biloba--SD is the key to memory enhancement.

Inside the m515, there's a 33MHz DragonBall VZ processor, Palm OS 4.1, and 8MB of RAM for storing contacts, a calendar, other information, and extra applications. As far as expandability goes, like the m125, the m130 gives you a card slot for adding more RAM in the form of MultiMedia Memory cards, Secure Digital (SD) cards, or the recently announced Bluetooth SD cards.

When the unit is powered off, pressing the up button makes the Palm show the time and the date. A small hole in the cover and a window above it let you check the time with the cover closed.

Peekaboo: You can check the time without opening the cover.

You'll find all of the standard Palm applications--such as Date Book, Address Book, and Note Pad--installed on the m130. And the m515 comes with Palm Desktop software for both the PC and the Mac. To help sweeten the deal, Palm has thrown in Documents To Go 4.0, which lets you work with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other files on your Palm. To show off the color screen, you get MGI's PhotoSuite Mobile Edition, which can display JPEGs and small, silent video clips. There's also software to help you connect your Palm to the Internet via your cell phone and Palm's MultiMail SE e-mail application.

Ogle your pics with MGI PhotoSuite Mobile Edition.Word up: Upload and view Word and Excel documents on your Palm.

Lo-res: The m130's screen can muster only a 160x160 resolution.
We were pleasantly surprised by this little PDA's performance. We worried that the passive-matrix screen might limit its gameplaying ability compared to models with active-matrix screens. But we couldn't see much difference between the m130 and a Sony CLIE PEG-N610CV on the first-person shooter game Serious Sam. And since the m130 has the same processor as all other current Palm OS devices, you won't be able to notice a difference in its number-crunching abilities.

If you considered the Palm m125 but worried that you couldn't read the small screen, the m130 is a better choice because its display provides greater contrast, making it easier on the eyes. The 160x160-pixel display has a backlight with two brightness settings for indoor use. The screen also reflects ambient light so that you can read it outdoors, although it's not as easy to see in bright sunlight as the reflective TFT screen on Sony's CLIE PEG-N610CV. Sony's PDA also has a larger, higher-resolution display, so fonts and icons are smoother and more legible. But we'll forgive those shortcomings because the m130 is significantly less expensive than the Sony.

As noted, the device has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which Palm says can power the PDA for about a week between charges; you just drop the m130 into the included USB HotSync cradle to juice it up. We were impressed with this Palm's battery life. With the backlight on, we squeezed a whopping 12.5 hours out of the unit before its battery ran dry.

Good, basic PDA

Pros: Everything you could need for scheduling

Cons: Nothing really

Review: I used this for a while. I used it strictly for schedules and keeping track of notes, etc. This is a very basic PDA, an older model and I believe one of the firsts with a color screen. The games included are fun if you are bored, but nothing fantastic.
Being as this is an old model, there is no wi-fi or anything for internet exploring.
Perfect model if you just want a portable organizer.

Definitely better than a piece of paper.

Pros: Unlike what´s between my ears, it never forgets.

Cons: No USB-powered cable out of the box.

Review: I abandoned those tiny pieces of paper, now I use the not-recognizable notepad, instead. When in a hurry, handwriting is still faster than any character-recognition technique. If you ever get 5 seconds to breath, then you can transfer your notes to standard "Arial"...
Since I must take it back and forth, and I spend most of time at work, the chunky cradle sits at home, and a USB-powered cable keeps it Hotsync´ed to my office, while charging batteries. Do you really need that chunky cradle attached to a 110V outlet in your office desk? I know I don´t.

Forget about e-mail synch too, since any attachments would eat its memory in a heartbeat; I use tasks, phone list and notes (synched to Outlook) only. The password feature is a plus, so all those logins and passwords can be remembered, if you can only remember ONE. Somebody would have to steal it from you, and take some time to crack its password, not to mention you can hide everything. By then, you changed all the passwords, so it is pointless to worry.

Get yourself a SD card too, and some free program to backup ALL the contents of the Palm, including those "security files", since you don´t know when will it run out of batteries, or if it will forget everything you stuffed in it. Remember to copy the backup program too, so it can be used to restore everything else. Don´t rely on your office or home PCs for backup purposes, since they are way more vulnerable to damage than your Palm (virus versus back-pocket-crunching, tough battle). Just use both, and be sure the card is ok once in a while.

Forget about Word and Excel, since most of the formatting will be destroyed on the Palm. Only real simple files can be synchronized between two PCs, and won´t be corrupted in the process. Word and Excel fans should turn to Pocket PCs and pay through the **** for it.

Now, you bought a "Pocket PC"? Did you really think you would get rid of boot-up time? HAHAHAHAHA, FORGET IT. A Palm is what every PC should be, a zero-wait device to keep all your stuff. I didn´t have to wait my paper notebook to load any OS, I won´t put up with that now.

battery is the big problem

Pros: inexpensive, features, size, memory chip.

Cons: Cannot tell when it is charging or condition of battery while charging. Battery is difficult to replace. You need to know what you are doing if you take it apart! Battery is $30-$80!

Everything I wanted in a PDA

Pros: -Color Screen -The product is easy to program (meaning lots of great FreeWare), -Small Size + Light Weight -File Uploading is a breeze -Durable (I dropped it in a puddle and it was submerged for about 2 seconds, it still worked fine!!)

Cons: -The resolution is only 160x160 -Screen is very hard to see outdoors FINAL COMMENT: This is definitely the PDA for me. Color screen, lots of FreeWare to download and can take the knocks without retiring.

Poor battery life and cradle.

Pros: When able to hotsync, it is good to have the data with me where ever I go.

Cons: I can recharge the battery for 24 hours and it is half dead as soon as I use it. The palm does not fit the cradle. Often I have to hold the palm in the cradle for it to hotsync

Good product poor customer service

Pros: It is great for downloading games and playing them later. The size is perfect and it is very easy to use and has many useful features

Cons: Poor customer service. The expansion slot started leaking. It has never been near any liquids for anything to spill on it. Something inside of it was leaking and palm refused to even look at it even though it is still under warrenty

I Love the M-130

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Great product! Comes with lots of extras (Like Documents-To-Go). I love the small window in the cover that displays time and other reminders; it beeps and I just have to glance at it. My only complaint is that the batteries seem to drain pretty fast.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: i bought this cool little unit and what a lifesaver it is and everything. Who cares about the lack of colors? if you want an 65000 just get the 515. Besides you know well before you buy the unit that is not 65000, so if your going to complaine dont complain about the colors. In conclusion, this device is awesome!

Battery life? What battery life?

Pros:

Cons:

Review: After 3 1/2 years of dutiful service, my IIIx conked out last month and I replaced it with a m130. Unlike the IIIx, the m130 easily fits inside a shirt pocket. The color screen is pretty good except when exposed to direct sunlight. I like the expansion capability and the ability to carry and use Microsoft Office documents on my Palm. The HotSync process is quicker and more stable. BUT...the battery life is a joke. I used to use the IIIx's folding keyboard to type notes in lieu of dragging a desktop to meetings. Even with heavy keyboard use, I only had to change batteries about twice a month. With the m130, I'm able to get about 4 hours of normal use. I can't even begin to think about using a keyboard with it and thus the usefulness of having the m130 is drastically diminished.

palm m130

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I have owned the palm m125 and m130. The m130 is prob the best affordable palm on the market with all the features I need. Colour is great and very easy to understand and use. I do prefer the m125 for using AA batteries instead of the lithium battery in my m130 but if you judge your battery usage you won't run short. They say the battery power in the 130 last a week I don't think so if you really use it. But the 130 does hold your info when battery power goes down for several days that I know of.....the 125 will not hold info more than 10 minutes when power runs out. Overall I recomend the palm 130. Palm is a specialized product and from the palm3 ,m100,m125 then m130 all the bugs are out of the m130.....enjoy your palm I am.

Excellent tool. Meets my needs.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: For majority of people, this little gadget will be it. It will more than meet our basic handheld computing needs. colored screen. rechargeable battery. memory storage need is solved by expansion card - It will take some time before you can consume the 8MB memory. I use my palm in the construction project management, personal finance, personal productivity. IT IS JUST WONDERFUL

EXCELLENT VALUE!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: It may not have the best feature set on the market, but there are plenty of more important reasons to buy this PDA. First, it's a great value, especially since I got it for $100 on clearence at Target (Now that's a deal!). But the more and more I use this Palm, the more I'm glad I didn't get a diifferent handheld from a different maker, since non-Palms (especially Sony's) tend to use propriety software and hardware, which makes many programs not compatible with it (especially hacks). Believe me when I say the M130 is compatile with absolutely EVERYTHING and doesn't suffer from any drastic problems (my only complaint is the screen is nearly impossible to see outside). So I would say if you want a cheap and very versatile andheld, this is the one for you.

Good second PDA

Pros:

Cons:

Review: First PDA was a Handspring Visor Deluxe. It worked for 2.5 years before chewing through batteries every week. The M130 is a faster and more capable PDA and cost less than the Visor. The screen is noticeably smaller. I might have gone with a Sony had I given it some more thought.

Best value in a PDA!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I bought mine in August 2002. In short, I'm blown away by the utility of this device. I went into the store looking for the m500, then took one look at the color on the m130 and changed my mind. Now, it's not the fanciest display, sexiest design, and it doesn't play mp3s. But for what I needed, it's perfect. The four application buttons have organized my life and I found and a wealth of apps that I now rely on daily. I have since bought a 64mb expansion card for photos, pdf's, bible translations, etc. With a case, it fits in my pocket and has replaced my wallet. I take it to meetings and type notes with the accessory keyboard. I sync it daily with my PC at work and almost never have to worry about battery life (except for long weekends). Now that the price has dropped under $200, I would recommend it to any average PDA buyer. You cannot argue with the simplicity and functionality of the m130!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: It has been such a great buy this little pda, works great, the screen is ok for me and has a lot of cool features. The only downside is the battery life, I have no idea how it can last up to a week, the most it lasts mine is 2 days. Besides that it is great!

The Choice For Students

Pros:

Cons:

Review: "With the guys at http://www.be-300.org developing a fullversion of CE.Net, and the incredible differences in hardware, not to mention the $100 dollar difference. It's clear that the only choice for students it the Casio BE-300!" I have an m130, and one of my classmates has a BE-300. Half way through the year, who is still using theirs in class? Me. Who is using a PDA that has a homework organizer, periodic table, dictionary, etc.? Me. It is clear the m130 is the choice for students.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I purchased my first m130 at a radio shack and the sceens sensitivity was off, i returned it and gave it another try because i liked the features. So i purchased it on cnet...now 6 months and a lot of information later it doesn't charge....and for me to get technical support i have to pay for the phone call because the only toll free number available is for sales...When i asked why...the person informed me of the increase cost to the company that will then reflect the price on the palms which to me are not inexpensive anyway.....my husbands clie has given him no problems in 2yrs that he's owned it and if it did he wouldn't have to pay to let them know it has......What is this world coming too?

Good quality handheld for the price.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Standard Palm features, good screen, but could be brighter. Only 2 brightness options as opposed to a brightness slider on the IIIc. Palm support also scaled down--no longer provides longer-term support. No case included--flappy rubber screen cover does not stay down or affixed to the unit. Decent quality screen and resolution, but not too much good bundled software; unit hard to get in and out of HotSync cradle. Overall--I'd give it a 7/10.

beware of quick draining batteries

Pros:

Cons:

Review: If you want a color screen with an uprgrade in ram, this is a good Palm to graduate to. But in my experience with all my Palms to date, I have never had a perfect functioning PDA. The m130 is great, but after less than a year and moderate every day use, the battery drained immediately after recharging. I had to send it in, and God knows if I'll get mine back fixed, or a reconditioned one. What is supposed to be a big plus--rechargable batteries--in my case turned out to be a big fat minus. I'd happily buy batteries in the future than take my chances with another rechargable Palm.

There maybe better out there, but This is what palm considers low-end color

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Having read only the negative comments, I would have expected alot more problems. I've had my m130 since at least August of 2002 and my ONLY complant would be with customer service. I had trouble syncing and made the mistake of calling for assistance of which they were none. But the negative of that lack of support is overshadowed in my mind by a nicely preforming product. Hence, I would ask those who don't like this product one question... "Why are you purchasing a low-end color palm as a "status symbol". The palm m130 is a electronic Rolodex with programmable features nothing more nothing less. Expecting more would be Microsoft-ish. I only marked this as negative so that others like me can get a real sense of product..... Note the price has dropped as it everyone knew it would making it a much better value.

Just What the Dr. Ordered!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I got an m500 as a gift, and the digitizer (apparently not unexpectedly) went whacko one week later. Back to the store it went, and I exchanged it for m130. Looked at fancier offerings from Toshiba, Sony, etc., but for my needs this was totally sufficient and the price was right. The m130 is a bit heavier than the m500 and not as slim and sexy but is rounder and more comfortable to hold. Much more solidly built. The screen is smaller but clearer and much easier on the eyes due to the back-lit color. Function is fast, intuitive, and reliable. Graffiti input is easy (much easier than the m500). Instant and cheap expandability via the expansion card slot. I've loaded a bunch of low and no-cost programs that are data-rich, slick to use, and really save me a lot of steps and time around the office. Frankly, the only thing I liked better about the m500 was the knurled and nicely weighted stylus. Simply a terrific value.

THE BEST PDA

Pros:

Cons:

Review: well i'm only 15 years old and i decided that i wanted a pda for myself to get organized and just so that i could have something to play games on and to go braggin around...i had a very hard time deciding what to buy because of the many different features that each pda contained..i researched alot and was about to buy a Cassio Cassiopeia..though it looked bulky but was very cheap and had all the mp3 player as well as color for only 199 but the store didn't have it so i talked to a lady who was buying some accesories for her palm..and i asked her..what do you recommend..she told me she had a m130 and it was the best because many people said that the palm software don't change drastically and that it is much better..so i bought a palm m500 becuz it was alot cheaper for 150 but then i returned it the next day becuz i wanted color!...so i went back and got the m130 for 260 with 50 mail in rebate..so far the color is beautiful..the handheld is very light..very easy to use..i just wished i had gotten an mp3 player with it..i also am not that happy with the screen because the pictures aren't that clear as the pictures on the computer..i thought it would of been the same as there broshures and ads but oh well..it better than the m500 and it has color:D:D

Best PDA for the mid-range consumer.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: At an MSRP of $249 with a $50 mail-in rebate, this PDA is complete yet expandable. Included are many titles of software including "Documents to Go"(R). Palm(C) is the industry leader in mobile computing and a full scale support site is at your disposal after registering for free online. This will get the best band for the buck. This device, though, lacks in the included features(i.e. no expansion card for additional storage). Good 2nd PDA but wouldn't recommend as a 1st for the complexity and price

HUGE BANG for the BUCK

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I chose this product b/c it was a great deal ($175 after rebate on Amazon), its expandability, good ergonomic design, structural durability and the overall good reviews that I've read about it. I'm a medical student, so having something that can withstand a lot of use and that can support a lot of database applications (I got a 128MB card to go with it) was a must. The Sony's are higher-end models and I didn't go for them b/c of 1)the price, 2)they have to be handled more gently. The Treo 90 from Handspring seemed nice, tho there are flaws to it and reliability is an issue. I didn't need any MP3 player, or digital camera or wireless tech with mine- I just wanted the basics and no frills. Pocket PC was out of the question as most medical programs are made for Palm OS. Plus, it's more expensive.

undependable-poor cust service

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I had my unit less than 3 weeks, and it failed every day- erasing all my information on the PDA. I contacted Palm, and the only thing they would do is have my send it to them for repair, which at holiday time would take 3+ weeks. They wouldn't even let me buy another unit and then get a refund when I sent this unit back. I will buy another brand!

EXCELLET OVERALL CHOICE - SMALL SCREEN - LIMITED BATTERY LIFE

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I have owned an m130 for a couple of weeks. In short: the color screen is VERY GOOD despite the 160x160 resolution and despite the fact that is smaller that the older generation of monochrome Palms; 8Mb is ok and it is rather easy to move data and applications over to memory cards (but purchase McFile which is the equivalent of Windows Explorer and a MUST for copying stuff to and from a card); it is faster than the older Palms and thanks to its USB connection it Hotsyncs in a breeze; a rather significant annoyance is its battery life - despite Palm claims, count on about 4-5 hours of continuous use if the backlight is on (you will prefer it ON most of the time expect if you use it in almost absolute darkness) -- in other words, if you use it quite a bit, you will need to charge it EVERY NIGHT. And a piece of advice: get the Palm "leather flip case" which protects it from falls or bumps while allowing you to pretty much use it as easily as a wallet. Would be happy to respond to additional querries at paravantis@otenet.gr

Skip the research, this is where you will end!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: The palm m130 is my first PDA. I have had it since February 2002 and it has worked like a charm. Even though it isn't the top of the line, the color is awesome... the only problem I have with it is using it outside on a sunny day. But other than that it is probably one of the best buys you can make. I use it for everything from work to school. I just bought a keyboard last month and it's almost as nice as having a laptop for only 1/5 of the price! After doing all my research on PDAs I ended up with the palm m130 because it was the best price and value... it has been now over 9 months and I'm not regretting it a single bit!!!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I sent my palm in about 20 or so days ago. First they said they didnt receive it, then they didnt know when I would get another. Then the corporate office stepped in sent me a new one and it does not even work. After all that I deserve a 515. This is ridiculous.

DON'T BUY AT AMAZON!!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: If this is a gift and is being shipped far away, don't buy through Amazon. The $25 rebate offer requires the UPC off the box AND the packing slip!! After spending 20 minutes trying to find a phone number to call off the web site and calling them, customer service REFUSED to accept any other form of purchase verification. It was ordered though them, you'd think they would know.

Great Palm and Value for $

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This is my first Palm. Was thinking of which PDA to buy for about a month and finally decided to give it a try on this m130! It is fantastic and at such an affordable price,i think everyone deserve to have one. With the large amount of freewares available for the Palm OS 4.1, whoa....i get new software everyday and gosh...i had so much fun organizing my stuff, and most important of all, it pairs flawlessly with my SE T68i bluetooth!

You get the most functionality for the $.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Previously owned a palm m105 did research on which pda to get for about 2 1/2 months. Palm OS has the most functionaliy with most everything plus tons of applications out there for it. I got a color screen & expansion slot. Doc to go all for under $200(you must look hard & long for the right deal!) Most people own a palm so your not alone and pretty much since it has been out has had the best reviews for the hardware & software. Your neither behind in tech. neither are you ahead of your self in spending an obscene amount of $.

Simple but lots of cool features

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This is my first Palm Pilot, and man, am I hooked. It's simple enough that most things are almost intuitive--you don't have to be a computer whiz, so it's great for the technologically challenged. I didn't want e-mail capability (if you do, I wouldn't get this one)--I just wanted to organize my life, play some cool games, and keep all my addresses handy--this does all and more! I got the little keyboard too so I can travel and write. Gotta love it!

I LOVE IT! Great for school!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I use my m130 for school, and it's great! I type many of my class notes with my MicroInnovations wireless keyboard. I also have an English dictionary and a French-English dictionary, an entire chemistry table, DueYesterday (an assignment organizer), Word and Excel and Powerpoint, and a metronome for band! It's great! And a nice color screen too. It's very bright and readable. It's not pixelated like the m515. I admit, you can't really use it all that much outside, but all my classes are inside. :) What would I do without it? (P.S. - Very very reliable!)

Battery sucks to the maximum!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Looks like ppl talked about the pros of this, so I guess that leaves me the cons of it. Everything I find this Pda is okay, cept' the freaking battery drain. Palm so call claim it can live up to a week, bah! I doubt it. Mine only last for three days at only average use like an hour a day. Overall, I am happy with the Pda but the battery sucks, really sucks. Even I leave the Pda off, the battery still drain like mad. I hate this Pda. Yet, I think the overall performance is okay.

Great device for the price!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I used to be a Visor guy but every since I first picked up one of these little babies, I just had to have one. The Treo 90 is OK but I don't think its worth the extra money. And Palm doesn't seem to change they're platforms nearly as much as Handspring. I have a Visor Deluxe and an Edge. Both were obsolete just about when I bought them. Where as the Palm's older series PDA's are still worth something.

12 bit? who cares

Pros:

Cons:

Review: i have owned plenty of palm units not just from palm but from sony and handspring as well. none can compare to the value and versatility of this unit. i did give it a low score on support only because palm really did screw up on the color capability but who cares. you will never use all the 65,000 colors trust me. all games still look the same and it has a much better screen than the 515 and that is true 16 bit. remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. my eyes say the screen looks great. if your into action games though, you might be somewhat disappointed. otherwise, great unit.

A great tool and I can still carry it in a binder!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I used to carry around a large Franklin planner and made copious notes and planned my day around fulfiling my values. Well, I still do that but the size of the planner has decreased, and I can still find what I am looking for with the touch of the little stylus. This is my first PDA. I was skeptical of having another piece of technology that would soon get outdated. But helping my daughter get ready for college, where the suggestion was to NOT bring notebook computers to class, but if one was inclined to use an electronic note-taker, then get a good PDA with a portable keyboard. It would be easy to store in the backpack or briefcase, and when you need to update your notes, the hot sync would do the trick. We bought the Palm m-130 because of the price and value. It came with the recharger/hot sync, lots of software, including the Word-To-Go bundle (about a $60 value), and a lot of good recommendations from people who have owned Palm devices in the past. It didn't take long for me to start examining it and using the portable keyboard. Within a week I had my own m-130, and took it on a short vacation, where I kept a daily diary, wrote some letters, played a few games of solitare, cribbage and backgammon. The case is got a good feel to it, and it seems very well built. Battery drain is moderate, but the recharger brings it up to full charge within a couple of hours. I am one who is used to using a larger planner, and I preferred something to hold that wouldn't get lost and where I could have a few sheets of paper handy to write notes apart from the Palm Pilot. I searched around and found the perfect one for anyone who is used to the Franklin or similar planners. It is made by Day-Timer, and has nice flexible pocket to put the PDA in instead of the velcro stick-on arrangement that most of others have(including the very expensive ones). The pocket allows you to take out the PDA and, if need be, carry it in your pocket, and you don't have all that velcro junk stuck to the back. The Day-Timer item is called the "Handheld Computer Binder" and sells for about $24. It has a loose-leaf binder, pockets for cards, pen/stylus holders and a zippered closure. Real nice.

Lack Of Support Kills The Deal

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Palm OS has so many quirks that even their phone support leaves you stranded saying things like, "That's a Microsoft issue, we don't have a solution for you." Solid PDA but its missing something

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Actually, this PDA is missing a couple things: 1) Palm, we want CHEAP memory (i.e. Compact Flash/SmartMedia), not this SD card that costs almost double as much (unless you wanna buy your card from an obscure NY electronics store....good luck!) 2) almost 300 bucks and STILL no audio support 3) screen is good but dang its small. Other than these gripes, its a solid performer. If you want a simple, quick electronic organizer, this is worth a look. If you want something with video/audio capabilities and CONVIENENT storage, go with a Jornada.

Good ROI, but...

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This is my first PDA. I finally decided DayRunner isn't gonna cut it anymore (can't schedule those recurring appointments!). I'm a software engineer by trade, so I expect a lot from my gadgets. Good points about m130: cheap (relatively) - you can get it for under $250 off the web. Pleasing design and color screen. Easy to use. Now the bad and mediocore: hotsync between m130 and MS Outlook works ok. But some little things are missing: DateBook doesn't handle MS Outlook's busy/free/tentative/out-of-office categories for appointments. PocketMirror Standard Edition (which comes with m130) doesn't handle sub-folers in Outlook (I may have to upgrade to PM Professional). All in all, integration with Outlook is rated 3.5 on a scale with 5. I looked DateBk5 specs and I don't think it does what I want either. Probably need to go with PocketPC-based PDAs to get the 100% interation I am looking for. Short battery life -- I haven't let it run out yet, but it's down to 50% after 2 days. But all in all it's good enough for me to get off my dayrunner gradually (still need to copy over all the contact info...)

Overall, a good PDA for its money

Pros:

Cons:

Review: If you're looking for a good color PDA, then the m130 makes the cut. However, you should expect a poor battery life (due to color screen), a smaller screen in which to work, poorly installed organizer/to-do applications (HandSpring's line feature DateBook and Calculator Plus), and a hard to see screen in direct sunlight. The great features of this PDA are the expansion SD slot, color screen, the infra-red port, and included rechargeable battery. If the battery life was improved, then I would consider keeping this; however, as a soon to be university student, I will be on the go, not able to put my Palm on the charger daily.

Versatile and fun

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Got my Palm M130 about a month ago and am having a blast pushing it to the limit. SD Card expansion is a huge bonus, and the color screen is crisp and easy-to-read (unless you're outdoors, in which case it's very difficult to see). Great speed, too. Aside from having to reset it occasionally due to Fatal Errors (caused by perhaps unreliable 3rd party software downloads), it's been amazingly reliable, even with heavy use.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Finally broke down and got a PDA. I bought the M130 for me and the M105 for my wife. Life is so much simpler now. definitely go find the Dual Date program. I like the color screen much better than the monochrome. I have a feeling she will want to upgrade in a few months. As a beginner, it has been incredibly easy to use. My rechargable battery runs down quickly, but it is not a real problem for me. I just charge it a couple of times a week. This is a good entry level color PDA and worth every penny.

The colored screen is really great though there is some slight difficulty looking at it in direct sunlight, compatibility is great, the expansion slot is great for storing other apps and data, battery life is ok since when you get home you can charge it for just 15 minutes and you're good to go. Even if I had to buy a keyboard for it (which is another great accessory) I don't really mind coz a laptop is just too big for me to carry around. it helps me a lot at work and in graduate school. Nice to have quality at low cost

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Last week I finally bit the bullet and replaced my Palm Vx with the new m130. First off, it was over $100 less than the cost of a brand new Vx (back when they were the new kid on the block). The color screen is gorgeous, the expansion card slot is already being used (by a nifty backup card) and it feels more rugged. The battery life seems to be a bit low (Thanks "Dopewars") but since I am always home at night there is no reason for me not to be able to recharge it. Pros:

Cons:

Review: Although I was salivating over the Sony Clie's (the price for color was too high and that little up/down button on the affordable one drove me crazy), the m130 seemed a good compromise. The only two drawbacks I've found are: 1/ the battery life seems low...4-6 days of regular use at best. Coming from 6 years of using Palms with batterys and getting 2-3 months per set, this is disappointing. And, 2/ as advertised, the screen is very hard to read in daylight. No adjustment of the screen seems to help.

Excellent Upgrade from my IIIc

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This is an awesome product from palm. I was concerned about the color on this machine compared to the IIIc, especially after seeing the color on the m505. The IIIc still has better color quality, but the m130 is much easier to see outside in the daylight. I've been getting excellent battery life after turing off the backlight, and now I have extra room for ALL of my 3rd party programs. I'm really glad I bought this machine. I love the 100 series, I started with the m100, and the IIIc is bulky and difficult to handle compared to the m130. Thanks Palm!!!

Very happy with it!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: My first priority was cost, and after researching, and thinking, and thinking! I opted for the Palm m130 over the Visor product. I am very happy with my palm, and I have to add, that all of those people having trouble with glare should simply adjust the screen's contrast! The free software is great and easy to work with/easy to download. I highly recommend this product!

Like it a lot!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: It's terrific for business users! A great, practical software package comes with it--and it's expandable (that's the best part). The screen is so much easier on the eyes than mono-chrome, and I like looking at it better than the color Handspring. Battery life is a little slim, but heck, can't complain for the price. Love the expansion cards! Add-ons aren't that expensive (if you look around! I found lots on Ebay!). Works great with the Smart Pad (my favorite accessory), too. Lots of cool and useful downloads for software. Only wish it had a wireless modem or MP3 player...but you can't have it all! Used it to replace my Handspring and am glad I did. Only geeks and snobs hate this palm--...for the rest of the world, it's inexpensive, solid and does the job of pricier PDAs.

1st Palm! VERY VERY GOOD!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This Palm m130 Is A Very Great Palm. I'm A 7th Grader From New York And It Is Helping Me Out A Lot! The Battery Seems To Die Fast, So After Using It For About 5 Hours A Day Its 3/4 Dead. When You Play Games On It-The Games Suck Up The Battery Very Quickly. Good For Its Price! I Got It For $240 From STAPLES By Beating Their Price. This Palm You Need! Shouldn't Go Any Higher In Price Than This. Kids In My Class Love It, And My Friend Just Bought A Palm m125. He Wishes He Got Mine! LOL NICE

A Colorful Addition to my life!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I think that the m130 is extrodinary. It has the expansion slot, a color screen, and 8MB of memory! I love the color faceplates, and they are cheap! The m130 is a great value for students. However, I do agree that the screen is a little smallish, and is hard to see in direct sunlight.

Happy With Purchase

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I bought the M130 to replace my IIIxe and am very pleased overall. Yes the screen is smaller ( 1/2" less top and side) but the readablity is excellent.Battery life is very good - it tops off to a full charge quite quickly.Nice size and shape in hand and a nice solid cradle (though putting it in the cradle is a little trickier than I prefer but not horrible). It really is a different world going from a grayscale to a color screen. Games that were merely ok on the IIIxe are incredible on the M130. I did have major problems with Windows XP initially identifying the hardware and one Palm tech rep gave me very wrong info that made the process much worse than necessary. Aside from that I've been very pleased - loading it with apps and unable to put it down.

Good bang for buck

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I have had this for about a week and a half, and I have been more than impressed. The CNET review short changes the battery life - I have found that the battery lasted exactly one week of extensive use without a recharge...which in my mind was quite impressive. The screen is indeed easy to read (as advertised) and easy to use. I was nervous going with Palm because I thought it would be difficult to use - boy, was I wrong. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles like an MP3 player or a video player, but I didn't see the point of paying upwards of $200 more to get mediocre versions of both from a Sony. So if you need a Palm that looks good and is easy to use and is very expandable - the M130 is the way to go.

Great Product and Value

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I recently purchased the M130 which was an upgrade from my Palm IIIc. The resolution of the screen on the M130 is much better than the IIIc. I have owned the M130 for one month and I do not regret the purchase.

Good Entry Level PDA

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Offers great memory and expansion capability for the price. Color good but not outstanding. Small display but easy to read. Also, comes with a good selection of software for compatibility with Windows applications. (Word, Excel and Outlook.) If you are upgrading from an older Palm the biggest problem is that it does NOT work with previous model of Palm keyboard or 3rd party boards. If you want a portable keyboard you will need to spend another $100. Number 2 problem is that the rechargeable battery life is relatively short; 4-5 days on the road just about uses it up. Thus extended periods away from the home cradle will necessitate the purchase of separate charger or 2nd cradle. Overall a good value, and a good entry level color PDA.

Wonderfull Upgrade

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I just upgraded my venerable palm Vx and I decided to go with the m130 for three reasons. I compared it to all the other PDA's on the market right now and I thought it would make the most sense for me and here's why: 1) The screen is great. It looks sharp and clear. Pros:

Cons:

Review: I was really disgusted by how cheap the m100 looked and felt, and how staring at the screen for extended periods would give me headaches. But as soon as I saw the m130, I fell in love with the device. The screen, while as small as the m100, is an amazing color screen and text is very easily viewable even for extended periods. The SD/MMC slot sure comes in handy for storing apps and databases, and the default new cover now screams "cool"! Bought it immediately and been using it ever since. Boy, sure am glad that I can leave the awful m100 behind :p

Not worth the money...

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Overall this palm is a good deal if you want a color PDA. However, the features and the excessively expensive accessories turned me away from it. If you want a better deal, find an old Jornada 520/525 or 548. Both of which have a much more powerful processor and nicer features. The CF card slot is a lifesaver as well since CF cards are so insanely cheap right now. + the PocketPC's made by HP and Compaq both can play movies and MP3'S, unlike the Palm units.
