The Second Best PDA I've Ever Purchased! Rock on Palm!!

Pros: Voice recorder, camera, Bluetooth, lots of apps online for free (mostly games), built in media player, SD card slot, fast processor (I haven't seen one hiccup in the performance yet). Key lock is very useful (something they should've put in the Z71).

Cons: No WiFi. Bluetooth phone support is pretty limited. Only Bluetooth for like 8 or 10 phones, on GSM networks (only AT&T and T-Mobile, no Verizon or Sprint, since VZ & Sprint are CDMA). No user replaceable battery. Keylock can be deactivated in pock

Review: This is a great product. Lets start with the purchase. I got this via Amazon.com, used. It didn't have a software CD, but I used the CD from my Palm Zire 71, and it works fine. I love the voice memos. Not only does it record VOICE, but it can record audio as will, and in good quality. This works perfect with a 2GB SD card, but I haven't tested a 3 or 4 GB, but they say it won't work, so oh well. Plus, there was no 3 or 4 GB and higher SD cards back then. When you first look at it, the first thing that really stands out is the camera. It is a 1.2 MP camera with 2X zoom, taking good quality pictures. The other thing that is good with it is that it also includes a video camera. It requires you to put in an SD card to record video, but hey, if they didn't do that, I wouldn't have any memory left by now, now that may turn some people down, but hey, it takes fair quality video. Just don't expect to be able to use it to replace a real camera, but it is good for taking pictures and video in a pinch. The Bluetooth is awesome, since you can do a wireless HotSync with it (I got a Bluetooth USB stick for $1.99 on eBay). I don't like how there's only like 8 or 10 Bluetooth phones that are on AT&T and T-Mobile, but oh well. I love all the apps available for free online, and I like the selection of the apps there is. Bottom line: this is an awesome product that is good for just about anyone who wants a PDA that will fit most modest needs. The battery is also good, I can do a workout or yardwork while listening to music and it only goes down to like 90% (I only use Bluetooth when I need it).

You have served me well

Pros: Ebook reading
Quick Program opening
Peppy responses to gestures.

Cons: No keyboard
No built-in Wifi

Review: I love my Zire special edition, but as a tool, I never used it for it's intended purpose.
I had planed on using it as a school planner, but the entry of text was so incredibly tedious with the "tap tap" of the stylus on the tiny onscreen "keyboard" I rarely entered the assignments. I ended up getting a notebook to hand write rather than use the palms "required" (non-adaptive) writing gestures or tiny keyboard.
If the palm had the wifi and they had not required using up the only memory slot to use their wifi adapter, I would use it to this day.
As it stands, It lays in my bedroom as an ebook reader.
For the 350 dollars I paid for it, and the 120 I paid for the 1 GB card, I feel silly at times to have spent that much on something like that.

Won't Charge

Pros: Everything but one

Cons: battery won't charge anymore

Review: This was my first PDA and I only had it for a few months. Now the battery won't charge at all. I brought a new battery to see if that was the problem. It wasn't!! I would have to pay $125 to get it fix. NOT! so now I have no PDA and I will have to buy one again but I will not this one.

Good performer PDA

Pros: beautiful screen, MP3, video recording/playback, digital camera

Cons: Bluetooth sucks, Graffiti 2 sucks

Review: This is a good PDA in this price range. I replaced an old Sony Clie PEG-S320, a black/white PDA. After some research, I got a Palm Zire 72s. The first thing I liked about this PDA is that it has a beautiful screen! The processor is definitely faster than my old Clie, this was extremely noticeable from one of the apps that I run, Password Plus. But then, I'm comparing a 33MHz DragonBall processor vs Palm's 312MHz Intel PXA270 processor. The next nice thing is the MP3 player. If you use Asian text like I do, any MP3 with Asian text will show up properly as the song name/artist with the included RealOne media player (you need to install Asian text system, such as CJK OS). Battery life is okay, unless I play lots of MP3 or play games constantly, I usually find myself charging it every 2 - 3 weeks, depending on my usage. (Of course, heavy MP3 playing would force me to charge on a daily basis). The Zire 72s uses Multimedia/SD cards. With a decent sized SD card, you can put quite a lot of stuff (pictures, MP3, movies, etc) on your Palm. The video playback from the default media player sucks really bad -- thus, be sure to download (free) TCPMP, it plays video much smoother than the default RealOne. The 1.2MP camera is cool as long as you have enough lighting. After all, it's a 1.2MP fixed lens camera; it does take decent pictures comparing to PDA/phone cameras. You can, how ever, put your own pictures on it (on the SD card highly recommended) -- it's a cool way to carry around your favorite picture collection :) It also record video with sound and it does a pretty decent job at it too (given enough light)

Now, the drawback: the bluetooth support is really poorly done. I have not successfully connect to my bluetooth equipped Powerbook since attempting to do that will crash the Palm. (I've heard that people has done it successfully) BUT... if you can get it to connect successfully to your bluetooth enabled computer, you should be able to surf the web with your Palm 72s (I have not successfully done that yet). Oh yeah, there's also a few programs that would crash your PDA ... I forgot which ones, I think some of the older/poorly written ones can cause your Palm to go into a continueous crash cycle ... forcing you to wipe clean the memory and start over again. (there's not a whole lot of them that does it, but do be careful and backup your data) Another thing, if you're a veteran Palm user, Graffiti 2 would drive you nuts!! Why would Palm change something that's working?? Try writing the letter "t", that's enough to drive you nuts. Sometimes, I result to (gasp) stylus tap keyboard. Sad.

Overall: I like my Palm Zire72s very much, if folks at Palm improve the bluetooth software + put back the old graffiti system, I would be a happy camper!

Love it, Great Tool. Love the camera.

Pros: Great in-a pinch camera, good battery life, great screen

Cons: No WiFi and the stylus is constantly falling out.

Review: This is my 4th Palm device since the early 90's. It is by far my favorite. Powerful, fast and I love the camera. The only thing it's missing is the WiFi connection, but for the money it's great.

best for work and play

Pros: camera. bluetooth, can view pics and video clips, light

Cons: no wi-fi , need more software, 32 mb internal memory, low res photos

Review: I bought the Zire 72 as my first palm and was impressed with it. As a physician I can use software like epocrates and read manuals by mobipocket. Then I show my patients my family pictures and videos of what we did during the weekend (transferred from my canon digital camera and videos from my digital camcorder via the desktop). It also has voice memo, documents to go and the usual contacts. I had upgraded to the LifeDrive only to realize that I like the Zire 72 better because it does not give me headaches---mostly compatible with three party software!

Great entry product.

Pros: Light weight, great color screen, camera, voice recording, accessories.

Cons: None to date

Review: This is my first handheld. It is serving me well. I use an Apple computer and am able to sync with my iCal calendar. I can take good pictures, record voice memos, and have audio reminders for appointments. There are many second party accessories such as a syncing cradle that also charges it. I can transfer and listen to my iTunes on it and the expansion cards allow you to play games, save items, and access the internet.

I strongly recommend it!

Seems great, if I could get it to work

Pros: Software bundle, design, features

Cons: Unable to operate successfully. Hot sync failure and data loss continuously. Palm support nonexistent

Review: This was a gift for my wife. She got so frustrated at the continuous dataloss that she went back to Franklin-Covey paper forms. I must have spent at least 10 hrs reinstalling, resetting, changing user names and trying every suggestion from the online support pages with no success. It kept wiping off my data and back to case zero evrytime. Palm support was nonexistent and online "help" useless, but they sent me a quality survey even before getting any help!? What happened to my beloved Palm V, Vx, m505 manufacturer??

Very good PDA for the price

Pros: 1.2 MP camera, bright color screen, can make your own videos and download them to computer, Bluetooth capable, bright color screen, voice recorder, great battery life, has Docs to go.

Cons: Can't upload videos, Needs more Ram, freezes up when really using power.

Review: Has a great color screen, but washes out in direct sunlight. Has a good battery-though I'm not a power user, so when I'm done with it for the day, I charge it up at night. Mine has Docs to go std.7-Very good program, can view almost any document from notepad to Microsoft Word. Has many accesories for it. Needs more RAM though. I installed Advantgo and my channels and some other applications and am already up to 18.8MB of RAM from the 25. Every once in a while, the unit freezes up when I play Backgammon for instance. But I just hit the reset button on back and then works fine. Overall, a very good PDA. I feel I got my money's worth
Updated
Also can't upload videos from internet. You can hear the video, but can't see it on screen.

Only flaw is display size

Pros: Fast, media capable, voice memos, good batt. life

Cons: 320x320 display, recessed SD slot

Review: I love my Zire 72s. I have the good one without the sucky peel-off blue coating. For best results, update the RealPlayer to a MUCH newer version. I also use pocketTunes. It holds a ton of programs with large built-in memory.

I love the BlueTooth, but I'd rather have Wi-Fi. The USB is much better than the old proprietary stuff. I'm glad they went with SD instead of the old palm expansion cards.

The only thing I wish it had would be the virtual graffiti area that disappears like the Tungsten and CliƩ.

good, but.....

Pros: faster than the 515

Cons: battery consuming very fast

Review: This is my fifth Palm. Nice color reproduction. Batteries last just for hearing 25% of the songs in my 128MB SD card. I can't find an electrical adapter, because of the atypical kind of plug. Non of my previous Palm charging devices fits this one. Like and use very much the voice recorder.

Great find for the not-so heavy and not-so light user

Pros: It's the cheapest PDA with an integrated voice recorder A must for students: it has enough software to work on projects near and far Bluetooth technology included, a definite plus Has a 1.2MP camera and plays back MP3 files

Cons: Battery is not user replaceable The touchscreen can only be protected with the included carrying case Just Bluetooth - no WiFi I'm not a fan of Graffiti 2
