Pros Handwriting recognition is very good; split screen options keep work flowing; system is fast &responsive; Android 4.04 is robust; screen is clear &bright; sound & speakers are great; quality of construction and case is strong; SD expansion car
Cons The lack of micro-USB has been an inconvenience, but power cable has a standard USB to connect to computer or charger. For $500, it should have come with a simple but functional case/cover such as the one made for it by iBlason.
Summary After 30 days of use, this is becoming one of my most productive work tools in that I am able to take meeting / phone / random notes by hand and (using EverNote app) have my work stored electronically from the initial point of creation. It is helping me achieve my goal to make nearly all my notes and work electronic so I no longer lose information due to it being buried in pages of a planner or in chicken scratch I can no longer read. The fact that the Note 10.1 can decipher my handwriting is still a wonder and mystery to me.
Pros Wacom pen (active digitizer, not "stylus")
MicroSD card slot
Great screen - accurate, well saturated colors; adequate resolution and good contrast ratio
Cons Feels plasticky
Uses Samsung's connector in leu of the standard micro USB port.
As it comes in the box the OS lags a bit due to the liberal sprinkling of widgets.
Summary First of all, if you are asking question along the lines of "iPad vs. Note 10.1" or "Nexus 10 vs. ...", this is likely not a tablet for you. It is a niche product designed for a very different purpose. Think of it as a Wacom tablet that happens to run Android. The pen works great for taking notes, of course, but it comes into it's own when you use it in Photoshop Touch or SketchBook Pro: you get 1024 level of pressure sensitivity at 1280x800 resolution (i.e. REALLY precise).
The "side-by-side" feature is nice, and is pretty useful, but the number of apps that can be used side by side is pretty small. Never the less, the clipboard and the annotation features work well.
As far as the hardware is concerned, it is more than adequate for the tasks you can throw at this tablet. One point I would make is that the screen is very sharp, so don't get fooled by the "it doesn't have Retina display" thing. Although 300PPI screen looks stunning, 140PPI is nothing to sneeze at. At the distance you will be using the tablet you WILL NOT see the difference. (I used to do prepress work some time ago and we considered 150DPI prints to be "photo quality"...)
Overall, I would recommend Samsung Note 10.1 if you intend to use the stylus to write or draw on screen as you would on a Wacom digitizer. Otherwise, get a basic tablet like Nexus 10, Note Tab, iPad or MS Surface RT (depending on which ecosystem you like better) - I bet you will get a better bang for the buck with one of those.
Bottom line: I absolutely love mine, but make sure you need a "Note" and not a regular tablet...
Pros -amazing S pen capabilities
-quad core processor
-2 ghz of ram, i mean come on, you're not buying a tab, you're buying a PC!
Cons -build quality.
-(kind of) a bad screen quality
Summary let me analize the cons, cause the word limit is exceeded:
-build quality. its not awful, but surely not great. if you hold it without a case, it makes this annoying plasticky noise. irritating when you pay for 500$ for the thing
-design. its not designed to look like a good product, it just screams''i dont look like an apple product!!!''
-recharging. its a little problem, but it drives me nuts. when you are using the tablet, and have it plugged in, the battery keeps draining!
don't get me wrong, i love this tablet, it is in fact, if not the best tablet i've used, and the s pen really makes it a must-have for me. but it has some problems, as stated before, that you dont expect when buying a 500$ tablet. putting that aside, it is, in my opinion, an ipad killer. well done samsung.
Pros Fast, excellent screen, spen, adobe graphics software, understands my handwriting in one go.
Cons No cons...
Summary This tablet will make your desk at work paperless. No more post its and no more taking notes on papers. Excellent device for people who have to demonstrate graphics work to clients and customers. It has a 5mp camera which is awesome and due to 2gb ram and quad core processor its the fastest tablet out there. Nothing can compete the spen and the multi screen feature
Pros Nicer firmware
Cons Wish the multiwindow tray could be customized anyway you wanted for the split screen apps
Summary Upgrade now! Its great!
