"Looks good but doesn't deliver/review based on UK model" on by Vinhasa
Pros: Android 2.2, looks, front facing camera, specs
Cons: Android 2.2, size, actual performance, cameras very low quality, flash, battery life
Summary: Well, obviously Google was right when they said 2.2 isn't ready for tablets. I'm wondering if that is the reasoning behind only 7" because anything bigger would really show off the short comings of the OS. I know people say Gingerbread will be released soon, but with Samsung's history (they still haven't released 2.2 for their Galaxy S phones) I don't expect to see that updated for another year or so.
Wow, getting blasted here for making real review from personal experience with an actual unit versus a guessamation of what I think it can do/how it preforms. I notice how not 1 single review all the 5 star ones thus far is from someone that is using or has the Galaxy Tab. Let me rephrase, I think it is currently the best Android tablet on the market, however I personally wish I had waited per the above reasons for a better tablet.
Performance is sluggish as well, especially for what it is listed with. It feels like it is running on a 600Mhz processor, not a 1Ghz. Even the touch performance is annoying. During pinch to zoom and scrolling, there a delay between what your fingers do and what the screen is doing. It's definitely not smooth. It doesn't seem like much at first, but after awhile I start to hate it. Also at times the unit gets hot even though it doesn't seem to be doing much.
Under use, battery died less than 5 hours from fully charged. Couldn't even last half the trip from Heathrow to JFK.
The cameras are low quality. They are there, but the pictures they take are grainy, washed out, and can't differentiate between light and dark areas. My old Droid1 takes much better photos, and at least that was portable and easier to hold. Also, video chat is very laggy.
Flash is crappy, it can take almost a minute at times on a wi-fi network to load a page that has flash ads installed. Yeah, I know you can turn flash off, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of advertising how great flash is? Although I am finding that almost all the real flash based sites are also in HTML5.
I guess in retro spec I should have waited for a better Android tablet. Not happy with this one.

"Absolute iPad Killer, must have device!!!" on by Ricky-A
Pros: adobe flash 10.1, think free office (which means word, excel, and powerpoint), android apps, camera's, and I have heard that you can download an emulator and run old nintendo and sega games on it.
Cons: battery life and fingerprint magnet
Summary: You don't buy a car that can only drive on certain roads at a certain speed, or only compatible with manufacturer's accessories. So why would you buy a tablet that will only perform the functions the manufacturer allows it to (Apple iPad), with Samsung's android based tablet you are limited to your creativity! The device will do anything the hardware and operating system can handle, and with a 1GHz processor, Powervr SGX540 Graphics Card, 512MB RAM... well you have a lot of capabilities!!!
I would like to comment that if you truly intend for your tablet to be portable and on the go with you at all times 7"-8" is the MAX. a 10" tablet is amazing to have around the house to play with, but you can't put that thing on your person, you have to have a briefcase or backpack to carry it. The 7" size of the Galaxy Tab is perfect as it allows it to be portable, I put it in my back pocket or coat pocket and I'm off! There is not way I could throw an iPad in my pocket or coat, and if I'm carry a backpack to lug it around then I may as well throw a netbook in there.
I use it to browse the web (full desktop browsing with Dolphin HD), check e-mail, read pdf files, read kindle books, stay in touch with social media, and perform various school functions (excel and powerpoint).... Hands down an amazing device!!!!!

"Stripped, Hamstrung and Hobbled" on by kwilsonjr
Pros: Great size. Good OS. Full flash support. Front facing cam.
Cons: Phone capability stripped by Sprint. Data usage caps. No unlimited plan. No peripheral support. No AMOLED display panel.
Summary: What could have been a real iPad killer has been painstakingly whittled down to an obsolete brick. Sprint has not only stripped it of it's one unique redeeming feature, phone capability, but placed a ridiculously low data usage cap of 2GB or 5GB a month...for a device that is designed to be an online communicator! Someone needs to grab the Sprint execs by the neck and shake them till they come to their senses.

"Great device but not an ipad killer" on by thebigdond
Pros: Solid construction, very clear screen
Cons: gets unstable at low battery levels. Cell phone contract required.
Summary: First off, I own both the ipad ant the Galaxy Tab. I also have the galaxy S phone that is the exact same as the tablet. I bought the tab because I like the phone so much. Both ipad and galaxy tab have their own place in this market. I use the ipad at home and when we go out with the kids to dinner or to entertain them. I use the galaxy tab in the car as a gps, entertainment system. They dont compete with each other for use, they each have their own job to do. The tab has some quirky behavior at times but I think that will be resolved, they have already updated the firmware since I bought it a couple weeks ago. When the battery gets down around 15 to 20 percent the device starts to get a little unstable. It will stop responding to touch and the side buttons will respond very slowly. The cameras are great. clear and crisp photos from the main camera, slightly grainy photos for the front facing camera. Skype and other programs dont work so well right now but they are working on better intergration. Overall a great device especially for the price, a third of my ipad price. Just think about what you will use it for and buy the right device for your use. No need to argue over ipad or tab, they are both great at what they do.

"Excellent tablet option" on by ethan pelton
Pros: Many features not offered by the iPad plus the benefits of Android.
Cons: I would like a larger screen, but the size has its advantages.
Summary: Voice activated turn by turn navigation, video conferencing or just playing around with the front camera, a mid-level main camera, all of the Flash content on the web including thousands of free games, the freedom of Android (move files without iTunes!), and the guilt-free conscience of not selling out to the man (Apple). Sounds good to me.
