With the CLIE PEG-T665C, Sony took everything good about the PEG-T615C--including its terrific color screen and solid design--and added a faster processor and MP3 support to make quite an attractive Palm OS PDA. But with units such as the Toshiba Pocket PC e310 now selling for less than this CLIE and a whole new Palm OS on the horizon, it may not be the right time to invest in the T665C. Only the headphone jack and the hold button on the left side of the T665C distinguish it from the previous model, the PEG-T615C. The brushed-metal case has a solid, durable feel, and at a 0.5-inches thick, this model is quite slim for a color handheld and slips easily into a shirt pocket. Sony's designers also did a great job sculpting the edges, so this CLIE feels just right in your hand.

Sony's motto: Design, design, design. The CLIE's top hosts the usual suspects.

Below the screen are the typical four application controls. In the middle of those is a minuscule scroll button that's small enough to be nearly useless. Fortunately, there's a jog dial on the left that can perform most of the same functions.

The jog dial is thumb-thing special. The lack of a clasp may irritate some users.

To protect the screen, Sony provides a removable, black-leather flip cover, but since it lacks the magnetic clasp found on other CLIEs, it tends to flop around.

A small USB cradle is supplied to connect the CLIE to your PC. To recharge the built-in battery, you can plug the AC adapter into either the cradle or the CLIE itself via a small dongle. It would have been better if Sony had found a way to permanently attach the dongle so that you wouldn't have to worry about losing such a vital accessory.

This cradle doesn't rock.A small--and easy-to-lose--dongle makes for cradle-free connectivity.

Thanks for the Memory Stick.

The T665C employs a 66MHz Motorola DragonBall Super VZ processor, which keeps the bundled audio and video apps moving, and 16MB of RAM. (Older Palm OS PDAs tend to have 33MHz processors and 8MB.) That 16MB is likely to be more than you need for storing calendar, contact, and to-do-list info, but if you plan to load up lots of third-party applications, you'll appreciate the extra capacity. There's also a Memory Stick slot on the top of the unit to add even more memory for storing MP3s, video clips, and other data.

Sing along with strictly Sony-sanctioned songs.

The other significant internal improvement is the addition of an audio player, which has good sound quality and even sports a bass-boost function. However, the player suffers from a few quirks: while it is compatible with both MP3 and ATRAC3 files stored on a Memory Stick, it can't play tunes stored in system memory, making the purchase of an expansion card nearly mandatory. Also, you'll quickly discover that the bundled SonicStage software that Sony provides for shuttling music between the PC and the CLIE isn't worth your time. The software works with only the Open MG Memory Sticks, but ironically, there's nothing open about Sony's draconian copy-protection scheme. However, by using the bundled Microsoft Import application, you can easily drag and drop MP3s from your PC to a Memory Stick. The hold switch on the side turns off the screen, extending playback time from 1.5 hours to more than 4 hours.

Aside from audio apps, there's a lot more software to be found on the included CD, though many titles are trial or demo versions. Worthy of special mention are Documents To Go Standard Edition for working with Word and Excel files and Margi's Presenter-to-Go, which plays PowerPoint slide shows. If you're looking for something a little more fun, there's also Sony's signature gMovie (a video player) and PictureGear Pocket (an image viewer) to show off the high-resolution screen. With CLIE Paint, you can draw freehand or on top of photos that are stored on the device.

Why doctor a photo if it's not sick?Like changing channels with a stylus? You'll love Remote Commander!

As an added bonus, Sony includes remote-control software so that you can use your PDA to command your home-theater gear, although we didn't like using the stylus to navigate the menus on our TV. Our only serious gripe with the CLIE software is the absence of Mac support; you can, however, buy third-party Mac software at an extra cost. For most day-to-day tasks, you'll have a hard time noticing this CLIE's faster processor. The Palm OS is remarkable for its ability to provide a snappy user experience from meager hardware. But if you put a T615C beside this newer model and play a video clip in gMovie, you'll see that it looks slightly smoother on the T665C. The difference is real, but most folks won't find it significant enough to warrant replacing their current PDA.

One drawback of the faster processor and the built-in audio support is that battery life is a bit limited. According to Sony's spec sheet, the T665C should last for 5 hours of regular use--30 minutes each day for 10 days--or 4 hours when playing MP3s with the screen turned off. In our tests, we got 3 hours with the backlight on and played back MP3 music for 5 hours, 20 minutes with the screen turned off. That's a bit short compared to previous Palm OS devices, and some Pocket PCs that we've tested can do quite a bit better.

One thing to keep in mind while shopping is that this CLIE--and other Palm OS PDAs--seems to use less power when turned off, so you can leave it unattended for a week or more and it will still power on when you return. Conversely, many Pocket PCs drain their battery completely just sitting in a drawer.

Sony's smallish screen offers decent image quality.

The T665C's high-resolution (320x320-pixel) transflective LCD is one of the best that we've seen on any PDA; it's razor-sharp with especially rich colors. A transflective screen uses a traditional backlight for dim situations and also reflects ambient light from the front, making it easy to read in very bright sunlight. Most other color PDAs use a reflective LCD with small sidelights squeezed in between the screen and the digitizer--the part that you actually tap with your stylus. We appreciated that it's easier to tap precisely on this screen because the gap between the digitizer and the LCD is smaller. The only complaint that we can levy against the screen is that it's small when compared to those of Pocket PCs.

I liked it while it worked

Pros: Liked the MP3 player and color screen. Pretty cool overall.

Cons: Stopped turning on less than a year after I bought it. Unfortunally I didn't use the warrenty while it was still good, and now it will probably $150 to fix it.

Excellent All-In-One PDA

Pros: The built in MP3 player works great. I've dropped once or twice already and it still looks and works good as new.

Cons: The built in video player works with almost nothing. Battery life is short if in cold climates for too long. Needs to be charged daily.

Lightweight with many features

Pros: The mp3 and photo programs are useful and easy to use. A fairly large amount of software is included with the unit.

Cons: Clie does not yet have the vast assortment of accessories that are available for the palm models.

Organiser with style

Pros: I was a palm user until i found this device. It has all the organizer features + more such as mp3 playing and video playback. With all the new PDAs coming out, it's hard to compare this device with the new ones with bluetooth and Wi-Fi, but if you want

Cons: The device can sometimes feel a little slippery, and for travellers who are always on the road, the device is prone to scratches, so i suggest a protective case for the device.

a small pda with a small price

Pros: this pda is excellent. very thin and has a superb look to it. i love the mp3 software and as well as the bundled software that came with it. it has a bright screen with all the right features.

Cons: no doubt the battery life is very weak. also watching movies on this pda is hard to do. gmovie does not support any other file, you need to download a 3rd party to play them. my pda also had some unexplainable malfunction so i needed to reset it. after al

fast, great color, everythin you want PLUS music!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This clie has one of the best screens available, a very fast 66Mhz processor (OS4 doesn't need anything more than this!), and the ability to play MP3s very easily. Get it used for around $150 and you're in business with a great looking and full featured PDA.

Great screen makes up for any shortcomings

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I waited for a week of use to compare this handheld to my previous experience of using Handspring Visors (a Deluxe, and more recently, a Pro). I agree with most of the negative comments about the battery life and buttons, so I won't go into that here. The only other negative I have is that my "hold" switch does not work. And since I bought it second hand on Ebay, I'm not about to mess with Sony's repair facilities for a feature I don't really use, anyway. The biggest positive is the screen. Clear, bright, very crisp. The PG Photo software makes it easy to put pictures of the kids on the device and the Clie displays them beautifully. The 66 Mhz processor is nice, it plays video smoothly. The place that I notice it the most is when you go to delete, copy, or check information from the main menu screen. With the Visor, I would have a couple second delay as it read all the apps, and the Sony throws the screen right up. The rest of the bundled software seems pretty good, too. I do miss the Datebook+ and the Advanced calculator that were both standard with the Handspring, but, over all, it is a good trade. One thing, another reviewer wrote that Avant Go doesn't work with the Clie--I don't know what he's talking about--it works fine and looks great! Bottom line, if you can put up with small scroll buttons (remember you have the jog dial!) and you sync every day anyway, this is a great PDA. Here's the killer: It is superior to the Palm M515 in resolution, processor speed, multimedia capability (MP3), hardware (jog dial, TV remote capability), etc, and it still costs much less. Why anyone would by the M515 over this is beyond me!

Great, but poor battery life

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This Clie is great. It comes with a great color screen. However, if you want to use the Paint software, invest in a screen protector because the screen will get scratched. Bad thing about it is the battery life. It lasts only 2 hours!!! It gets even worse if you want to listen to MP3s.

Good Palm but doesn't quite deliver

Pros:

Cons:

Review: It's got a great screen, and is well designed. The jog dial and the button layout are excellent, and it's fast. It does all the basics really well, but the mp3 player is very cumbersome- to the point that it's almost useless. That's mostly the fault of all the copywrite protection stuff, but also that it uses memory stick (only available up to 128MB). Get the model 615(almost identical) and use the extra hundred bucks to get a real mp3 player- you'll be glad you did.

A Wonderful PDA

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I’ve been using it for at least 6 months now. It has the clearest and brightest screen compare to the other colour Palm PDAs. The size is perfect; it is small enough to house all the gadgets without compromise the screen size. One of the best Palm OS PDA.

Excellent PDA - poor battery life

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Ok, i've waited a while before writing a review as I really wanted to put the Clie through the paces in a real working environment. I manage Asia Pacific for a large company and depend on my PDA. Here is the scoop: The Sony is superb at managing my schedule. Excellent at enabling me to scribble notes during a meeting and organize them with "to do" tasks later. Great at being able to view pictures of my 15 month old while I'm traveling. I love the Palm OS (I'm a big Mac fan, so this was a big plus). Now, the cons. I have been let down a bunch of times in critical meetings where the battery has gone dead after only being used for less than half a day intermittently. It seems that it only lasts about 20 mintues befor the dreaded battery icon starts to list to the left. And from 30% or so, it tanks out and goes down in what seems to be 2 minutes. And if that happens, as I'm sure many of you know, ALL your data is lost and you have to reset the whole thing. The only other negative is the memory stick - (a) it's limited to 128mb when other media forms are up to 1gig, and (b) i can't seem to transfer jpeg filles easily without paying for software. I still love the style and functions of the Clie, but hate the battery issue. I heard that newer versions aren't any better. Conversely, a colleague of mine played games on his Tungsten all the way from London to Singapore!!

You mean it HAS a battery?

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Once you get past the fun of loading pictures, videos and MP3's on this PDA, the love fades quickly. While the screen and processor speed are better than the comparable Palm. I've started believe mine doesn't actually have a battery. Unless it sits on the charger, it goes dead and must be reset. Even turned off over the weekend with the 'hold' switch activated, it's dead on Monday. The button design on the front makes accidental power ons easy. I guess Sony's fix was the 'hold' switch, but then that makes it difficult to run it with one hand. I even tried using it without the backlighting. Then it just dies quickly without being visible. I have never tried to view pictures, videos or movies on the go; just while it's in the cradle. I miss my old Palm Vx. Wish the calendar button hadn't broken .. I'd switch back immediately. You think SOny has plans to offer a solar panel for this PIG-T665C?

Great PDA that is fun to use.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I've been using my Clie 665c for about 2 months now. Other than the near worthless scroll dial, there isn't anything I don't love about this device. It is fully functional, very fast, has good battery life, and seems built like a tank. Worth every penny I paid.

Excellent balance of form & function

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I was given this PDA by my company. I find this product to be extremely useful and attrative. I have since sold my Toshiba Pocket PC on ebay. Previously, I have also used Palm V and Vx. Years ago, I became dependant on the Palm V/Vx. But, when I switched to the Pocket PC, I noticed that I was just not using it as much. I believe it was because of a combination of latency in operation and being forced to navigate through a lot of menus to find things. I also noticed that I just didn't carry it around with me because the Toshiba unit is big and unattractive. It really doesn't fit in a pocket without discomfort. The Sony has a very elegant design. This particular unit also has a hold button that more than makes up for a shorter battery life. This button prevents the PDA from accidentally being turned on in your pocket or brief case. Also, the 320x320 display on the Sony really makes baby pictures come alive! Yes, the battery does not last as long as a B/W Palm unit, but it has not yet run out of battery on me after a long traveling day of games and mp3's. The Pocket PC has died on my several times. I find this device a pleasure to use.

Excellent price, lots of features

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This PDA truly offered everything I wanted: Palm OS, beautiful color screen, MP3 playback, and a reasonable price. I can't find much wrong with it, other than the crappy scroll button. However, the Jog Dial can be used instead (very handy feature, along w/ the back button). The size is perfect: big enough to be held comfortably, but small enough that it doesn't bulge out of your pocket. As for complaints of the battery life, I have yet to have a problem with it. I have owned it for over a month. I use it to take notes in class, play games, and listen to MP3s while I am at school and have yet to get it below 50%. Of course, I turn the brightness down to like 50% (it doesn't affect the view very much though) and, when I am taking notes, sometimes I turn the backlight off to conserve power (the room is bright enough and I don't really need to see everything that I type). I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Wow watching MPEG 4 movies on this Clie is Awsome

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I just bought this PEG-T665C and put Kinoma on it. It plays MPEG 4 and MPEG 1 movies. I put my favorite episodes of south park on a 129 Memory stick and I have entertainment whenever. I have loads of mp3's and I use the CLIE to play music in my car, and at the Library where I spend all my time. Great unit, excellent support

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I purchased my T665 at Sony's outlet store in Lancaster, PA for a mere $249 (indluding cradle). Since I already own a digital camera, I had the memory sticks on hand to share with the CLIE. The display is excellent and the feel is very comfortable in my hand. I had to contact customer support due to a file I had deleted by mistake and was very pleased with the help I received. A tech answered my call within ten minutes and stayed with me throughout the entire process until i told him the problem was corrected. As for the battery life, hey I have to recharge my cell phone after two or three days of continuous use so what's the big deal about having to charge a PDA after the same amount of time. Maybe it doesn't compare to some of the other PDA's out there but I've got no problems with the battery life. ALl in all, I'd say I made an excellent choice in the Sony CLIE T665.

My first PDA... I love it!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I purchased this model mainly because of the value of a pda/mp3 combo. I purchased a 128mb sandisk for it and have enjoyed it. This is a wonderful tech. gadget for the busy college student. The color screen is simply outstanding. I highly reccomend this product to anyone who does not have the financial assests to purchase the ipaq. You will have fun with this pda from the day that you take it out of the box. Hotsync works like a charm, and the palm desktop software makes scheduling and editing a breeze.

Good all around PDA

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This is a good all round pda. Fast, plays mp3 well, and terrific display. Definitely a good pda even though a bit pricey. My battery charge last between 7-10 days as long as I use the hold button to turn off the pda when I'm not using it. If its in your price charge then buy it. If you want a basic pda then go for something cheaper.

Clie vs Ipaq

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Love my T665C Clie. I originally purchased a Sony Clie N610 about 15 months ago but it began performing a hard reset on its own with a fully charged battery. I suspect it was the battery and have heard from one dealer, regretfully, that Sony batteries do not last very long. I purchased an Ipaq 3995 running Pocket PC. At first I thought this was great software but after working with the software for a week, I became very disappointed. Here are some of my gripes. Documentation is very poor and non-existent in some areas. There is no way to program the software to open the calendar to the current date when pressing the calendar button. It always remembers your last place visited. MS Money, Word, and Excel are a poor excuse for software and have practically no options. You can’t close most programs, only minimize, which leaves numerous programs running in the background sucking the life out of the battery. The only way you can see and close these programs is to tap through a number of windows until you can tap a button to close all programs. The screen brightness was the best I have seen, even better than Sony, but not worth the hassle. I returned my $500 Ipaq for the Sony Clie T665C ($300) and have been delighted. I don’t think there is one PDA that will do everything that I want but I’m very happy with the Clie. WordToGo and SheetToGo, using Documents to Go, far exceed Microsoft’s Word and Excel. I have to admit, the battery drains pretty fast but I bought an after market combo sync/recharger at CompUSA for $10 (after rebate). I use to own an Palm several years ago and had problems syncing from time to time. I think the newer HotSync software for my last Clie and my new one have improved greatly. The only thing I miss from the Ipaq is the handwriting recognition which I now here will be coming to Palm software soon.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: If Sony stays with this format and adds a "soft" grafitti area they will have the pda of the future. Only things missing will be bluetooth and(or wifi, but it may be better to have those as an option card just to save batteries. Pros:

Cons:

Review: Very battery hungry compared to my previous Clie PEG N770c - make sure you have a travel kit to charge up if you use the unit for lengthy periods of time. (why oh why oh why do Sony make all these models with different cradle and power fittings ????? - Nokia after all make different phone models that you can charge up using the same power unit - or am I being commercially naive here ??? lol) The TFT screen is incredible and the build quality is superb - it feels like a solid, robust piece of kit. The bundled software is good - but would have been nice to have Palm OS 5.

Great Asset For The Money

Pros:

Cons:

Review: August of 2002 is when I upgraded from the Handspring to the Sony. And I've not turned back since! I like the weight and feel as well as the compact design. It does use power a bit too much but use it with a purpose and you won't have any problems. In reference to software, I recommend using software that has been tested with the Clie' in mind. For example, DON'T recommend Advantgo. Performance, style, it's got it all. I also like the sturdy design. It's metalic body is much better than a 'plastic' body. And if you do purchase this unit, I highly recommend a memory stick. At least a 32mg. Color screen is great and the controls take getting use to (scroll key for ex) but you will adapt after a short while. If you're looking for great quality and power in a slim design, this unit is for you!

Pros:

Those of you that are willing to leave it in the base and handle with care, more power to you! I needed a workhorse and found it at:http://www.dell.com/us/en/gen/topics/segtopic_axim.htm

definetly worth the money

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I got my t665c on new years eve and right away got started. i already had a memory stick so i download sum songs and the sound quality is great with earphones on...but the speaker could be a little bit louder. i can take pics with my cybershot digital camera and put the pics on my t665c. once i have the pics i can draw on them using paint which is included. i used to have an older clie and it had infra red..but when i got this one...WOW. from all the way across the room i can control the tv..and even every brand! when i walk through the mall with my t665c i walk past the tv section and turn on or off the tvs and it is really funny.. i could go on and on about the greatness of this product..but i wont..overall this is an exelent handheld

Answers to my need...

Pros:

Cons:

Review: What I need: 1.A portable means to keep track of my schedule from calendar to rough notes; 2. An integrated solution in storage media - one for all; 3. view word/excel document in a portable case - sth. lesser than a laptop; 4. easy to use feature and sleek to handle; 5. Affordable range. This particular PDA simply answers my need. One great appeal is the versatile usage of memory stick, compatible with other electronic gadgets.

Best for Students!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I bought mine today. I was lucky enough to get the Sunset orange edtion of this CLIE. It is amazing! With a car/usb charger ($20) and a Lexar 128MB Memory Stick ($30), this is best PDA combo out there. I charge it on the car when ever I'm driving. and I charge whenever I connect it to my laptop's USB port. I'm telling you battery is NOT a problem. There are people saying this CLIE cannot install OS 5.0. THIS IS NOT TRUE! I was able to deploy OS5.0 after few minor tweaks using HACKMASTER. It works perfect! Although it's not as fast as Palm's new OS5 device ($499), but you get your money worth. This is the best Palm out there in its class. Keep in mind, the CPU is also overclockable, I pushed mine to 80Mhz without any problem! Oh yeah, if you can get it from Fry's Electronic, that will be great. They offer "instant-exchange" program for 2 years at a small charge. You can get a new one if anything is wrong with your clie (Hint..Hint..^_^) I'll see if I can push my CLIE more for its bucks.

Great PDA, even 6 months later!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I sold my T615C to buy my T665C back in July. This has the best hi res screen on the PDA market (along w/the NR-series), and the best form factor for shirt pocket carry. The 320x320 resolution and great contrast make text reading a joy and combined w/true 16-bit color make pictures look awesome. The 66 MHz CPU doubled the memory stick access speed over the T615C and plays MP3s in the background w/o skipping a beat. It has a dedicated DSP for MP3 play and jpg decoding. No OS 4.x device by Palm can touch this device--just look at their screens side-by-side. The polyphonic speaker sounds great and is incredibly loud, especially for alarms. The MP3 player is very high quality, and plays perfectly in the background. The battery life isn't as bad as some make it sound. I use mine all day and travel all the time, but have never had the battery run out during the day. I do charge it every night, even on the road, and keep the backlight at 1/4 or less--which is more than adequate in all lighting conditions. I still say after six months of routine daily use that there is no better PDA on the market, including the new OS5 devices.

Won't Work with PCS Phones

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I received the Clie for my birthday and tried to use it with my PCS phone. After finding a suitable cable I learned that Sony doesn't support use of the Clie with a mobile phone. Returned the Clie, returned the cable, and got a Palm 515. Now I am good to go.

First PDA - Very nice

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Owned my clie for about three weeks. Very happy with it. Fist the few downsides; If you are left handed and want to use the jog dial, you will have to learn to write with the stylus right handed. Buttons - never use them. Actually, jog dial - never use it. Battery life short especially when playing freecell. You really need a charger adapter or cradle at your most common destinations. The Good: Screen colors nice. Never a delay. Lots of memory. I loaded a lot of spreadsheets and word docs and Quicken and still have a lot of memory left. Support: Someone tried to beam a game to me. The beaming worked but when I started the game, it crashed the Clie. From then on, I couldn't do a hot sync. Called support fearing the worst based on what others have written. I had to wait a few minutes on a Friday night. Got first level support who went through the basics and tried a couple of things to no avail. He referred me to second level support. We wound up doing a hard reset which resolved the problem. They were patient, thorough and knowledgeable. I was very satisfied with Sony support - their website on the other hand is pretty bad. Now about that hot sync and the restore after the hard reset. When you do a hard reset, it wipes out everything and restores the system to factory settings. However, if you have been doing hot syncs which you would be crazy not to do, you are covered. When I did the first hot sync after the hard reset, it restored all files and settings from before the crash. All seamlessly. Really impressive. Maybe all Palm based PDAs do that. Maybe all MS Windows based PDAs do that - now that's really funny. You know, what kept me from buying a Windows based PDA was Microsoft. Who wants a PDA that crashes all of the time. And given Microsoft overall support, Windows is just not a trustworthy option. Having said all of this, you have to know that this is my first PDA. I don't have much to compare it to except for other reviews. This is the reason I didn't give it all 10's. However, I am very happy with it.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I purchased the Clie to replace an old palm pilot prof. Never thought that I would use all of it's bells and whistles... It's easy to install and use. I hot sync with a couple of different computers and I ready to go... I esp. love the MP3 player for the gym, who knew?

Great Buy for the Money

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I just bought a new T665c pda and I'm very satisfied with it. I've researched enough info on it including user reviews and now it sits on the palm of my hand. I was able to get it for just $325 after a $25 instant rebate from Circuit city in my city. It has drop-dead good looks and Ultra-Sharp display. I really liked the solid feeling and the super slim half inch aluminum body of my T665c. The only gripe that I have right now is the Battery replacement. Once the battery starts to die down completely in the future, It will be difficult to replace it. I wished Sony made a T665c with User-Replaceable battery just like the new Clie Peg SJ30. Better yet, they could have made the T665c's battery as easy as those in cell phones when it's time to replace them. I don't like the idea of opening the whole body up just to replace a dead battery nor leave it to the authorized service people.

I agree... great PDA, bad battery life

Pros:

Cons:

Review: i got this after reading all the reviews. Seemed most people hated the battery life, but liked the PDA. Well, I don't mind charging every day, but I can tell you that one of the annoying things about this is that it seems if you set an alarm and don't respond to it, it will try to send the alarm repeatedly and eventually drain the battery to zip. Then, as you can guess, you lose ALL your data. I've had to hot synch this thing to get my data back no less than 3 times in the 2 months I've owned it. So, my tip is don't set alarms unless you are sure you're going to be there to respond to 'em. Otherwise, scroll button is definitely useless, but screen is a delight and it's definitely one of the sexiest handhelds other than maybe the XDA. Oh, and having other Sony digital products, I get to use the memory sticks to expand - a definite plus if you own one already. Would be nice if they offered modems!

Make yourself feel better

Pros:

Cons:

Review: What are features and specs if you can't use them due to a sub par battery life. Quote "If you can't remember to plug it in before you go to bed you don't deserve a pda." RESPONSE, respectively, if you have time to put your pda on the charger every night, and enough money to waste on a clie, maybe you should higher a real assistant to sleep in bed with you every night, recharge you, and then walk around and sing to you the whole next day, and call it an assistant with an "music player." You will have had a better time, and not wasted your money. HOPEFULLY. I on the other hand do use my pda every day and require the battery life. Rather than you who carry it around in your pocket and use it to show your friends when they ask you what new, cool, expensive, thing you bought today to make your self FEEL better. (no pun intended)

Underclock the T665c to save battery.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I'm using the latest overclocking/underclocking utility on my T665c and I'm able to use my pda for at least 5 days without charging (30 mins./day for 5 days). If battery life is the problem, use an underclocking software. My pda is still fast even when the processor is half the usual power.

Muy Muy Great!!!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I rated value at 5 because I got it cheap (much less than MSRP.) Otherwise 4, continue reading. Support rated at 3 only because I haven't used it and probably won't. Quality a 4, would have been a 5 if not for the battery life. Features...all I need. When I loaded the software and sync'd it all my other programs and addresses and everything was loaded on my new Sony from my Handspring Visor (3 years old.) I already have a digital camera (Sony DSC-F707)that rocks so I didn't need/want the camera. Pros: Crystal clear display (very nice), easy operation for anyone previously using a Palm OS, Sleek, light and stylish. I hear video viewing is easy but haven't used it yet. CONS: battery life less than average (but it is hi-res, mp3 and the slimmest) other than the weak flip cover (which I will replace with a full jacket, I did it for my Visor) no complaints. I was playing mp3s and viewing pics (jpeg) on it within hours. I don't know about any incompatiblity issues as I loaded it on my puter (running WIN XP) and had NO problem whatsoever. I really think they could improve their fuel cell tech, I would be willing to trade 2.0x10-3 cubic inches and an ounce just to get 2 hours more battery life. Don't use Mac so can't comment on that. Crystal clear display. Since I have a Sony DSC I already have Memory Sticks (5) and I loaded up a 128mb stick with mp3s (32) and it rocks, great sound.

Awesome, palm has nothing in comparison to this clie

Pros:

Cons:

Review: First of all, in response to Norman's comments, it sounds like he knows close to nothing about handhelds. I have my t665c coexisting with my palm m125 perfectly. Next, I have had it for over 2 months, and every time a look at it, I am thouroughly impressed. Last, unless you never go to your house, battery life shouldn't be a problem. All you have to do is plug the charger in when you go to bed. If you can't remember to do that, you don't deserve a handheld. The t665c is a top of the line pda and even palm's new tungsten line have few benefits that this unit doesn't!!!!

Wait a month

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Pros: Good screen, good speed, compact metal case. Cons: poor battery life, not 100 percent Palm OS compatible, will not support Palm OS 5, will not coexist w/ other PDAs on the same PC, poor grafitti recognition, tiny stylus. I bought it when it first came out. I thought it was pretty hot at the time but now that the novelty has worn off I am less impressed. I think all of the positive reviews here were posted by new owners. The biggest negative is the battery - a PDA should last more than a few days on a charge. That kind of ticks me off now that I've had it a while.

Excellent but short battery life

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I have been using this gadget for two months. Everything is good, thanks to Sony, buyt the battery is really "impressive." With the backlight on, I need to charge it every two days. Also, I need to carry the charger, along with cardle, around, from dorm to home. I dunno why Sony doesn't equip the package with separate adap. and cradle. The sleek design makes it outstand among other competitors, and it's also a main reason why I picked it.

Looks good on the outside, works great on the inside

Pros:

Cons:

Review: The best thing about this pda is the 320x320 color screen. Viewing pictures, or simply reading articles on this handheld, is much more soothing to the eye than on other handhelds with a lower screen resolution. The 16mb of ram was absolutely necessary for all the applications that can utilize the hi-res color screen. The only downside to this is having to spend another $100 on a 128mb memory stick, so that you can play a decent amount of mp3s on this handheld. Also wish that Sony would make a metal case that would go hand-in-hand with the slick design of the pda.

Sleek Design - Poor Support

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I'd say if it were not for the poor support, this would be an OK PDA. I think the size is perfect for the pocket, although the slim design and slippery metal case make it somewhat tiring to hold for more than a few minutes. The screen is very good - very bright and clear. Battery life is the worst I have seen in a Palm based unit. I have to charge it every couple of days - even though I only use it for pda functions (no games or music). Mine crapped out after a couple of months and I had to return it to Sony. They promised I'd have it back in a week - it took over 6 weeks. Not acceptable for a pda. With Palm about to release its new models, I'd avoid this one - actually, after my bout with their service department - I really wish I had stuck w/ Palm anyway. A pda is only as good as the company that supports it. And Sony obviously doesn't care too much about that.

My Friends Are So Jealous!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This is a great product, my third PDA (Visor Platinum, then Palm M500). Pros: Incredible color screen (10x clearer & brighter than my friend’s Palm M515), 16MB internal, memory stick, fast processor, small size, mp3, jog dial. Cons: Small, hard to use buttons (especially up & down, I just use the jog dial), battery life. The battery life is not as bad as others make it sound. I can easily make it through a day or two without charging, even when playing mp3 through the stereo in my car. I haven’t seen the battery meter any lower than 72%. It just won’t last a week or two w/o charging like my Palm m500 did. Not a big deal at all.

Not really compatible with Palms

Pros:

Cons:

Review: The CLIE documentation is written as if no one owns a Palm or other device, and as if their major market is not Palm users who are upgrading. It is impossible to find out how to switch your data from the old Palm to the new CLIE, and when you finally find the referenced web link (and the info is not in any of the manuals supplied, it is unintelligible. Advice to Palm upgraders--stick to genuine Palm products! I am sending this one back!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: All the features on the Sony CLIE PEG-T665c are beyond what I expected. The screen actually appears better when outside and the host of features; memory stick, jog dial, vibrate reminder, and built speaker are more than I expected. The only down features that are bad is the scrolling buttion is too small for anyones fingers. Otherwise it works very well. I use the music player everyday of work with excellent performance. If you are looking for a Palm hand held that is slim and has many features the PEG-T665C is the one.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Best overall PDA made sofar. Lacks Bluetooth, has a strange and almost useless up/down key and has sofar few and expencive hardware add-ons (typically Sony). Cons:

It organizes and amazes

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I had it for 6 weeks. I bought it mainly because I already had memory sticks for my camera and also because it is not using microsoft. Now memory sticks get extra workout with mp3, photos and files. I don’t have to drag my laptop around anymore. I reply to emails while on the beach. They get sent when I synchronize. I loaded Quickoffice 5.64 because it has a spell checker and it is more compact than original Documents to go. Now my girlfriend wants one. I tell her it will be hers when Sony produces one with more memory, longer battery life, more intuitive operations, modem to plug in directly to telephone and sound recording. It would be great too if I could use one charger for PDA, a camera and a CD writer. I have them all from Sony but why each one has to be different? The remote control could be more flexible like I would like to set the time to switch on TV. Overall I am happy for now

Looks and feels great, quality...?

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I've been very impressed with the screen brightness and color quality. Battery life is mediocre if you keep the backlight on; a couple days of moderate use, and you'll want a recharge. One note: the first one I bought crashed while in its cradle, and crashed hard. I have no idea why; one morning, I pulled it out of the cradle, and I couldn't even restart it. I had to return the sucker. MP3 player seems like a nice feature, but it's only worthwhile if you have a Sony memory stick. You might be better off buying a Rio or other MP3 player if that's really what you want.

GREAT SCREEN, BUT MP3 PLAYER A LETDOWN

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I have been a long-time user of the Palm OS (started with Palm Personal, worked my way through 3's, then 5's and now the 5x) but given the host of fun add-ons (movie players, picture viewers, trans-reflective color screens, MP3 players) that both Handheld PC’s and companies like Sony were offering with their PDA’s, I thought I might branch out from my old 5x. I spent a lot of time scrutinizing the pro’s and cons of various models – the Sony NR70v seemed overwhelming – I’m pretty good with Graffiti, and really don’t need the extra keyboard that it offers, and all the bells and whistles that it offered really seemed extraneous to me. I was also considering the Toshiba e310 but I was reluctant to use a Pocket PC simply because I’ve really become accustomed to the Palm OS, and transferring all of my data into a Pocket PC format seemed a daunting task. Further, I was turned off by the lack of available software for the Pocket PC. I have many Sony Vaio PC’s, a Sony Digital camera and Sony camcorder, which pushed me toward a Sony product – compatibility is important to me, and I already have loads of data on Memory Sticks. I purchased the Clie T665c 5 days ago and I’m a little unimpressed, and will probably return it. The screen on the T665c is beautiful – crisp colors and I can read it in my convertible with the top down even in the bright LA sunlight! That’s cool. The processor is much faster than my old 5x which really got me jazzed. It’s compact enough to fit into a skinny little evening purse – which in a way, is also scary.. The aluminum casing feels flimsy – I’m terrified of dropping this thing! The stylus really is quite slim, and takes some getting used to. Also, the front scroll button is completely ridiculous – I’m a tiny person with tiny hands and I can’t even use the dang thing! The jog dial function is really no match for the old palm scroll button. The movie player is kind of a joke – this screen really isn’t meant to play movies… and pictures look fairly reasonable (although a little pixilated for my tastes.) But even given all of these things, I truly felt I was making a step in the right direction and was even more excited when I transferred all of my existing Palm programs to my Clie without a hassle. The feature I was most excited about on the T665c was the MP3 player. I have been amassing loads of MP3’s over the years, but only outputted them to CD’s – never bought an MP3 player. Here’s where the problem began. After installing all of the necessary software BY THE BOOK onto my Sony Vaio Desktop (which runs Windows Me) I used the MS transfer function to attempt to load my Memory Stick with music. When attempting to access the Clie via the “My Computer” or “MS Export” function it causes my computer to crash and burn – so badly that I’m even unable to force restart the machine. Several calls to Sony customer support have been frustrating – the tech support people even at the highest levels can’t determine whether this is a driver issue or Microsoft issue, and I’ve spent over 2 hours on separate occasions hanging on the line uninstalling and re-installing the Palm Clie Desktop software and it’s drivers. I even went so far as to– re-initialized the hard drive of my computer, and reinstall system software, so that I was starting from scratch, so to speak. NO LUCK! My computer crashes every time I attempt to access the Clie and Sony customer support is unable to help me rectify the problem. I was actually able to transfer MP3’s on another Vaio computer that I own running Windows XP, and everything seemed to be graet. I almost forgave Sony my irritation over the 4 + hours I spent backing up and reinstalling software on my other computer until I realized that…SONY’S COPYWRITE PROTECTION LAWS ARE SO STRINGENT THAT YOU’LL BE LUCKY IF YOU’RE ABLE TO KEEP 10 SONGS ON YOUR CLIE! This was the biggest turnoff of them all – that the Clie absolutely refused to play certain songs that were “write protected”. I mean, I understand where they’re coming from, but this just isn’t gonna work for my purposes. So, for this reason, I’m giving the Clie the thumbs down. It’s great if you’re not planning on using the MP3 function – but then if you don’t need the MP3 function, why not buy a cheaper model (or a REAL PALM) instead of this?

Much better than the M515

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Impressed witt the design and screen quality, compared it side-by-side to the Palm M515 at Best Buy and it wasn't even close. The Sony's pixels are much, much smaller therefore everything is smoother, the processor is 66mhz compared to Palm's slow 33mhz and for the same price, the choice was obvious. Also the battery is the new lithium-ion polymer and it last. The scroll button could be bigger. Overall I am happy with it, it's my 3rd one-previous was Sharp Mobilon and Jornada 720.

Thumbs up for Sony

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I owned this PDA for over 2 months. It is great, MP3, pictures, books, organizer, electronic games, remote control....and so on. Having all the things I use in one place is great. Battery life is good, until you start playing MP3s with the screen on. But come on, it is just common sense that the more powerful the application you run the faster the battery will run out. But that is when the "hold" function or backlight off feature comes into play. Also there is a battery charger that I bought at ebay for like $6 and works with 4 AA batteries. This is excellent for when you are on the road and might run out of juice. I haven't have any kind of problems with the device. It is just awesome.

Good product, bad timing.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This product is great!!! The screen is so sharp, and colorful. The cpu runs at 66mhz instead of the common 33mhz. It is also quite small, and plays MP3s. Another bonus is the applications included. However, there are drawbacks. With the screen, cpu, and mp3 player, the battery life is really short. Also, the timing is strange with the release of Palm os5 coming out before christmas, and this CLIE isn't compatible with the new os. It is much better then most other Palm handhelds, it is nowhere as powerful as pocketpcs. I cannot highly reccomend this product, not because it is bad, but because of the timing. I would reccomend to buy a Palm, or CLIE handheld when Palm os 5 comes out because the multimedia features are much better. Remember Palms are simple and cheap, while pocketpcs are complex and expensive. The last sentence will not be true when palm os5 cames out.

Overall Terrific w-Fabulous Screen

Pros:

Cons:

Review: The screen is so clear and bright, making many apps like AvantGo so readable. It's small, light, sleek and well designed, but I agree with others who say the buttons are not the best design (too small and hard to press, especially with the up/down button). A Technological, Feature-laden powerhouse

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I got mine in mid-July, darned near as soon as my local Best Buy had them. Having researched, I wanted to see if all the promises from Sony were true. I work in A/V and online media, so the video and audio capabilities interested me immensely, and I've not been disappointed. I also have taken to reading books on the T665C, and find it's very convenient. This is where I find the most battery drain, though I can use it normally (for me) for a whole weekend and still have battery left. My cradle and charger stay at the office. The video playback and user interface through the computer are easy to use and it's been fun to show someone video clips, though you will need headphones to hear the audio well because the built-in speakers are kind of weak. My wife's Palm has something the Sony doesn't, however, and that's a freehand Memo Pad. I've dropped it a couple of times on hard surfaces and there's been no damage. I personally find the scroll button and "back" button very handy, and can use many functions without the stylus...a big plus in my book. A memory card helps bunches if you want to use video playback as these files tend to be a large. In short, I'd buy it again.

Anyone who is having problems with batteries should take it back for another of the same model. I use my MP3 all the time, and I have owned my clie for about a month now and I have yet to kill the battery. I have a charger for my car, and I charge it when i drive, but I am a student and my main source of transportation is my bike and it is great to have music to ride to. I have been away from my charger for 8 or maybe 10 hours at a time and i listen to the mp3 player when ever i get a chance. I am very good about leaving the hold button on, while listening to music to preserve the batteries, and i leave the back light on low all the time. I was discouraged to buy this clie in particular because of the reviews, but I have been very happy with my clie.

Not That Great

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I traded in my T615 for this and initially I was quiet impressed. Until I started to run into problems. As many of the reviews I read, the battery life is not that great and I thought I could live with it. But I soon realized it was worse that I thought. I found myself down to like 50% (if not less) by the end of day and thats with light use. With my T615 it would not get that low for at least 2 days with the same use. After about 1 1/2 weeks, it crashed and would not restart even with a hard reset. Least to say I was not happy. So took it back and went back to the T615 and am very a happy camper.

OK it looks great - please sell it!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: From everything I can see, this is the choice right now in Palm PDA's. But why are the prices sticking so high? With new versions coming out soon, and the risk of a double-dip recession on the way, wouldn't you expect somebody to price these things attractively? Especially given the CNET editor's review - reading between the lines, it essentially says "nice PDA, but why would you buy it now...??" OK, I'm ready to buy when I see a fair price for last year's model, but vendors like Best Buy are not even near the prices they offered in midsummer! (Don't want to pick on them, but they're the guys I'll wind up buying from - just as soon as they're willing to sell!) Let's get it together vendors! Let's move last years' PDAs!

Probably the best Palm OS Device

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Smaller and lighter than the NR70s and the buttons are accessible without having to "open it". Screen as good as the NR70s (but smaller). IMHO, best PDA available right now!

Everything and more!!!!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This PDA has to be the one greatest handheld computing solution out there. It's a PDA, it's a MP3 player, and it's a personal library of books, photos and movies. The one downfall may be the battery, but with the travel charger that comes included with it and the fact that if you lower the brightness all the way down, which doesn't change the quality of the screen at all, the battery will last about 3 days with normal use which is great!!!! PocketPC's are just a fad!

Best upgrade from Palm Vx

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I was a die hard Palm user from the Pilot Professional, but had been disappointed with the storage, speed and screen on the new Palm m505 and m515. This Clie is superfast and the screen shot is amazing, not to mention the ease of use with the Memory Sticks. The only thing I miss are all the accessories, I was hooked on my modem and keyboard, but I am exicited about the new Qwerty Keyboard for the Clie. Overall I'm very glad I got it.

I have a beef with battery

Pros:

Cons:

Review: the Battery is just terrible. It lasts a total of 2.5 hours. This is unacceptable. Otherwise it's a very nice pda. Sony needs to put in a battery with at least double the capacity of this one.

PERFECT FOR THE COLLEGE STUDENT!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Ok, today is tuesday, and I got my T665c on friday, so I've had a few days to play around with it. This is my first handheld, but I have to say, I did a ton of research on handhelds before deciding on this one. I just want to let everyone know DON'T LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS! This is a very versatile device if you want a handheld to do everything well, and is perfect for the college student! People complain about battery life, but come on, I think you're asking for a bit much to have a colour hanheld with 320X320 65,000 colour display capable of playing mp3s to run off of rechargable batteries for 2 weeks, BE REALISTIC PEOPLE! If you need something for travelling get a b/w handheld. But for the rest of us everyday people, especially people like me, I'll take mine to school in the morning, organize my day, jot down quick memos to remind me of things to do, and when i'm in the lab, i can easily start writing up a quick spreadsheet right away to record data. And if I'm studying on campus, i can use this thing to listen to mp3s on the go. I'll be syncing this thing at night when i go to bed, so battery life isn't an issue, just like i don't think its an issue for the common user. As for the design, I think the buttons are just fine, they don't stick out above frame, so they can't accidently be pressed. People complain about the stylus, I think you guys are on crack. How can you have a large stylus, and yet stored into a handheld that's only 5 in. long? I love the jog dial on the side, I'm left handed, and it's not even an issue. I hold it in my right hand, and manipulate the jog dial with my middle finger, it's very easy! This is a super machine, and I think sony really hit the nail on the head with a very stylishly designed, powerful handheld, I can't wait to purchase a 128 meg memory stick. I'm gonna be the most stylish boy on campus now! Thanks sony! LOL
