Pros VIZIO CUSTOMER SUPPORT ON RECERTIFIED TABLET DENIES ANY RESPONSIBILITY ON A SEALED PRODUCT THAT ARRIVED BROKEN IN UNDAMAGED PACKAGING!
Cons POOR VIEWING ANGLE, SLOW CPU.
Summary OPENED IT NEW FROM THE UNDAMAGED PACKAGE, MULTIMEDIA AUDIO WAS NOT WORKING. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE HEADPHONE PORT LOOKED BROKEN. I DID NOT DO THIS, I RECEIVED IT YESTERDAY CHARGED AND TURNED IT ON. AFTER TRYING TO EXPLAIN TO TWO DIFFERENT VIZIO CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGERS THAT IT WAS BROKEN IN AN UNDAMAGED SEALED PACKAGE THEY STILL ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY SINCE ITS PHYSICAL DAMAGE. THEY REFER ME BACK TO THE RETAILER FOR AN EXCHANGE. IT'S NOT THE RETAILERS FAULT, NOT FAIR VIZIO! I GUESS I HAVE TO RETURN TO THE RETAILER EVEN THOUGH IT'S OBVIOUSLY A FAULTY RECERTIFICATION ON VIZIOS PART AND THERE IS NO WAY THE RETAILER COULD HAVE KNOWN. I'M LESS THAN IMPRESSED WITH VIZIO AT THIS POINT AND WOULD GO OUT OF MY WAY TO SEEK OTHER BRANDS. WISHING I NEVER PURCHASED ANY OF THIER TELEVISIONS AND WILL NO LONGER DO SO DUE TO THIER INABILITY TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR SOMETHING THAT IS CLEARLY THIER FAULT.
Pros Price point is good. OK for music and watching video.
Cons Locked OS means your 32GB SD card is just so much storage. Also means you can't shut off or unload preloaded Google apps. The touch screen routinely looses sensitvity in upper left and lower tight corners, requiring a reboot. Browser crashes.
Summary My wife and I bought these to replace Palm Pilots for portable data storage, glucose, BP, excersie and diet tracking and maybe to use for email, web browsing and so on. The VTAB seemed a good value for the money so we both got them. Now, they have turned into rather expensive photo frames at best. Vizio recently updated the OS to Gingerbread 3.2 and in the process has ruined the product in our opinion.
The screen has been rearranganged with the menu, back and home buttons now located on the screen rather than on the bezel. This results in a smaller effective screen size. To counteract that the font size has been reduced as well. Thhe overall result is a display the size of a smartphone on an 8" tablet. Using hot links becomes problematic unless every screen is resized and some screens no longer resize. As an example, the "mail" link on the Yahoo page is at the extreme upper right and very difficult to "hit" to get to mail.
The locked OS may not be a problem any longer since there is an unlock for Gingerbread. I consider myself fairly technically adept, Advanced Class ham, various certifications in OS, software and networking, but I do not feel comfortable enough with the Android OS to fool around with rooting it. As a result I can't stop or unload the preinstalled Google apps.
I see people that love the GPS features and can't help but wonder if they realize and understand that Google is tracking everything they do and where they go. I'm not willing to conciously permit that kind of privacy invasion, so my tablet, and my wife's, now sit on the bottom shelf of an endtable colleting dust.
My reccommendation is to buy a better table that permits true open spurce use by the user rather than getting locked into Vizios (actually a third party contractor) version of Android. On the other hand, if you are happy with no privacy and want a tablet with an 8" screen, this isn't a bad choice.
Pros Runs nicely. Like the full size screen. Enough processor and Ram to play Angry Birds and all the rest of our apps. Nice screen when viewed directly. Have watched Netflix and it runs fine. Battery life is good and charge is quick.
Cons Mid-range will become low end soon enough. Viewing angle is poor, especially to the left. 512GB RAM is what I call minimum today.
Summary This is a nice mid-range tablet. It is meant for one user as the viewing angles are poor. We noticed it was worse on the left that the right so if you want to watch videos, like netflix, 2nd person sit to the right. It has run smoothly for us and plays all our apps.
Pros Great usability
Excellent value proposition
Cons VIZIO (if it ever breaks, it is intentionally un-repairable)
Viewing angle isn't the best in bright light.
Summary Understand that if anything ever breaks on this device that isn't covered by warranty, you're SOL. There are:
No service centers
No available service literature
No intent to ever give any of the above
So if, say, your wife drops you 4 month old VTAB on the floor and the headphone jack is damaged (neither speakers or heaphones work consistently) then I hope you enjoy your $300 Frisbee. A $9 part is broken on my tablet that kills much of it's usability, and VIZIO's general opinion is, "Gee, that's a shame, we don't sell any parts and nobody fixes these. Thanks for calling Vizio!".
In summary a great tablet, but not worth the risk of owning in a world where gravity, spilled juice, and other everyday hazards exist.
Pros great prices - from costco
nice size, good sound, good display, good wifi connectivity
runs all the apps (except live wallpaper)
does just about everything the in-laws Sony tab does but at half the price
Cons not the fastest - but nobody really notices
am concerned about battery life - but so far so good.
heard there were some issues with the micro usb / charging port reliability, but haven't had any issue yet
Summary everyone in the house loves it... it travels with us all the time. as we walk out of the house - somebody always calls out - "do you have the tablet"
