The Lego Movie Video Game arrives for iOS
Everything is awesome in this mobile version of the console game.
Given that well over a dozen Lego video games preceded the smash-hit "Lego Movie," it should come as no surprise that the latter spawned another of the former.
That spawn took the form of The Lego Movie Video Game, which debuted just about a year ago (alongside the movie) for just about every gaming platform -- except a few key mobile ones.
Today, The Lego Movie Video Game has arrived for iOS, with a decidedly cheaper-than-console price of $4.99, £3.99 or AU$6.49. It's more or less a straight port of the other mobile edition, the one designed for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita.
For many readers, there's nothing more I need to say. "Lego? Video game? iOS? Buh-bye!"
If you're not acquainted with this game series, however, allow me to elaborate. It's a brick, brick, brick world starring, you guessed it, all the characters from the movie. Your goal is to complete missions by solving puzzles, fighting off bad guys, and if you have time, collecting all the coins you can along the way. That currency allows you to unlock extra characters and other bonuses.
The overall plot follows that of the movie, and even includes a nice helping of movie footage (without original voice-over work from the actors though, only borrowed snippets).
As with previous outings, the onscreen controls can be a little cumbersome at first, especially for those accustomed to navigating their Lego games with a controller.
But I think it's worth the effort, because in this game, nearly everything is awesome -- including the music that concludes each level. Like its predecessors, The Lego Movie Video Game is fun, funny, non-violent, and enjoyable for all ages.
