The UK model will only have 3G, but there's a 4G version in the US. Selected deals in the US get buyers up to 200MB of data per month for two years on T-Mobile; I've asked HP whether there'll be a similar deal with a 4G network here in Britain. Update: There isn't.
The Chromebook 14 -- or Chromebook14, as HP styles it -- sports a 14-inch high-definition screen. Inside is a 16GB solid-state drive, with HDMI, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports and a combined headphone and microphone jack on the side.
The 14 comes clad in white, turquoise and something called "coral peach", which sure looks like pink to me.
Chromebooks are based on Google's Chrome operating system. Examples include the Samsung Series 5, the stupendously high-resolution Chromebook Pixel, or the bargainous £200 Acer C7. They don't have software installed on them like a normal laptop; instead they need to be connected to the Web. They rely on apps that connect to the Internet, including Google Chrome apps like Gmail, YouTube, and Google+ Hangouts. You also get 100 GB of free storage on Google Drive to keep files, documents and pictures for two years.
The HP Chromebook 14 hits the UK in November, starting at £250.
