  • "Great deal for $10 at Fry's"

    Pros: Price, size, good playback

Cons: slow access of any software

Summary: These are now $10 at Fry's ($4.90 for the ones without the tuner). I bought one for $30 about 6 months ago, but it would not work with the AverMedia WinTV FM PCI card installed, so I returned it. I'm glad I did because in early March, Fry's was dumping them at $15. I bought one. Now they are $10 so how could you go wrong. They may soon be paying you to take these off the shelves because there is still a lot of these sitting there. I'll use this in my laptop. Just be sure you have a USB 2.0 port with this plugged in or you will not be able to even install the software. I would be very hesitant to pay more than $20 for one. If you want a good tuner and video capture card, get a PCI card or a USB version with a hardware encoder, but be prepared to pay way more (read ~$100+) for it.
