"only good for tv"1.5 starson by Digitaljunky
Pros: fantastic picture
Cons: nothing works
Summary: First off let me start by saying i'm not a pc novice, I know my way around a bios or two. I was using the simple and cheap WIN TV tuner for MCE 2005. It worked perfectly and NEVER ONCE MISSED A RECORDING in the year I used it. This card got the highest review of any tv card by the cnet editors! THEY COULDN'T HAVE TRIED IT WITH A WINDOWS MCE BECAUSE IT DOESN'T WORK! FIRST of all, the editors didn't tell us that you can only record 4gigs of video (Like the old FAT32 System) ATI has no solution for this at this time. SECOND, it takes over line command scripts that cannot be uninstalled---(PREPARE YOUR OS BACKUP DISKS BECAUSE YOU WILL NEED THEM ,....FREQUENTLY!) THIRD You may not be able to use the included purple breakout box for your S video, because WMCE will not allow you to use this. (To transfer your home videos to DVD and such) I was surprised to learn that the playing of my homemade videos was copyright management infringement,(since I was the one who made them) and they would not be allowed to be recorded. The software is buggy at best. The features are very limited, and the extended functionality is poor.
SUMMARY: IF YOU ONLY PLAN ON WATCHING STANDARD CABLE TV YOU WILL GET A FANTASTIC PICTURE, HOWEVER YOU MAY COME HOME TO WATCH YOUR RECORDED CSI TO FIND IT DIDN'T RECORD BECAUSE OF SOME DUMB ERROR, BECAUSE THE INTERFACE IS JUST NOT RELIABLE. ATI HS TRULY BUILT A ROLEX WITH TIMEX GUTS.
