It's Wonderful

Pros: Easy to setup, use and the results were just what I expected. The resulting DVDs were the same quality as the VHS I recorded them from.

Cons: Upgrading the software took some trials

Review: Can recommend this unit to anyone that wants to get their old VHS to DVD

peice of junkl

Pros: easy connect to PC

Cons: Did not work

Review: I tried 3 of these from the store and could not get any of them to work. I have a new computer without any kind of video connection for camcorders. I could not make this work with either the S-video or the analog connections. I tried several S-video cables and several analog connectors and nothing would make this thing work. I will not use anything like this again

AVOID Pinnacle!!! Especially the DVC90!!

Pros: Easy to hook-up.

Cons: Everything else.Plextor PX-AV100U

Review: To be blunt - this product is a piece of garbage. The quality of the video was terrible with 20-30% of the frames dropped. Called Pinnacle support - their solution was to disconnect all other external devices from computer, especially USB devices (which meant printers, external drives, modem, etc.); disable any networking connections; turn off all firewalls, anti-virus and other security features; and close all other programs, even those running in the background. When I asked if all of this was really necessary, their answer was that was the only hope I had of getting clean video with in-sync audio and "fewer" dropped frames (notice they didn't say without dropped frames - they said "fewer"). Their second solution was to try an upgrade of the software to Studio 10.5 (now 10.6 with update). I tried the software upgrade at a cost of $90. While the software had neat features, it did nothing to solve the problems with capturing video. Unfortunatily, you can't return opened software and the 30 day period was up on the DVC90, so I'm out $160 for something that is absolutely worthless. Save your money, but more importantly your time and stress level - avoid Pinnacle Systems, Inc. products.
Updated
Sorry, included the "Plextor PX-AV100U" in the "Cons" line in error. Actually, was getting ready to paste that in my browser to do research on that product as a replcement for the Pinnacle DVC90.

Certainly not a slam dunk

Pros: worked well with some tapes providing a good transfer of audio and video

Cons: crapped out on older tapes....totally froze my computer

Review: Doesn't live up to the hype. It will be successful some of the time and crap other times. No reason for the failure and lousy support.

Avoid This Dog!

Pros: Good price; Software appears to have lots of goodies.

Cons: No video capture:Garbled audio;Poor tech support.

Review: Attempted using it on a new HP computer with an ATI Radeon Xpress 200 series video card, Windows XP media center, 1G memory, 7 USB 2.0 ports hooked up to a Sony analogue Hi8 video camera (CCD-TR940). It failed to capture any video (under numerous settings and connection combinations). My only tech response in a week has been a query on my type of video card. Tried running it on my old computer (Compaq Presario with 512M memory, ATI Radeon 9200 video card, & 1 USB 2.0 port). The computer locked up when I hit "Start Capture" and had to be rebooted. In addition to the bundled Studio 9 editor I tried it with several other software packages and failed to get any video. Suspect the hardware or drivers are not friendly with ATI video cards or possibly with Sony analogue video cameras. It goes back to the store for a refund tomorrow. Next try - the Plextor PX-AV100U.

Drops lots of frames, choppy video

Pros: Bundled software has good features

Cons: Drops lots of frames, choppy video even on low quality capture.

Review: I bought this even though reviews were poor, based on local recommendations. I loaded the software without any problems but when I went to capture video the thing had hundreds of dropped frames every minute and the resulting video was very choppy. To be completely fair it was probably watchable if you're not picky at all, but it was really annoying to watch. It didn't seem to make any difference which capture quality I used. It seemed to drop about the same amount of frames per minute regardless. It also said my computer was not fast enough for anything but the lowest quality video even though I was well above recommended system requirements (not minimum). Needless to say I returned this one.

Absolutely Horrible Video and Audio Quality

Pros: None that I can find

Cons: Huge HD space required for install. Capture quality is nothing short of horrendous.

Review: I thought my VCR was the problem at first, but it plays just fine on a regular TV. But the DVC-90 simply does not deliver any quality. The picture is washed out and there's a large line of distortion at the bottom. The audio is even worse, garbled and distorted. This was touted as 'high-quality' on the box, but it doesn't even come close. This thing is going back to the store.

Simple and effective when works

Pros: Quick setup, easy transfers, intuitive

Cons: Crash issues with SP2

Review: Only had device/program a few days.

Program has good transfer rate and have not had problems with frame drops.

Has an issue with SP2 and the DEP.

Okay for AVI/MPG - terrible for DVD

Pros: Easy setup, low price

Cons: Just about everything else

Review: The software isn't very intuitive...which I could deal with.

Unfortunately, it drops frames like crazy on anything over 5 minutes long, and the audio sync is terrible.

The bottom line: if you want to transfer home videos (or anything else, for that matter) to DVD, keep looking. It's unbearable to watch, and could just give you a seizure.

Easy to use, only VCD resolution

Pros: Easy to use. I used WinXP SP2. Did not have any problems at all. Also worked easily on W2K. Other: I bought it from a BestBuy in mid Jan 2005. Paid about $70 including tax etc. Comes bundled with Pinnacle which is decent.

Cons: Does not support DVD resolution, only regular VCD resolution, which is why I returned it.

Video out of sync most of the time!

Pros: Very easy to use/connect. Plenty of editing features with Studio 9. Cheap. Windows Movie Maker captures audio/video better than the Studio s/w. I wish I could say better about this product, but it all stops here.

Cons: Studio 9 software, for capturing, causes the video to become out of sync with the audio... it basically looks like a Benny Hill video. This is with all s/w completely updated and with XP. :( For some reason, Windows Movie Maker can capture without any

AVOIID!

Pros: Easy to use RCA Plugs

Cons: I bought a DVC 80 for $50, it never worked right; they then sold to Pinnacle and I was told the software and drivers were no longer supported, but I could upgrade to Pinnacle software for $99.

No audio, video flickering

Pros: cheap, simple to install

Cons: I used my Hi-8 videocam but got no audio and video is flickering. Called tech support three times but they couldn't understand what I was describing
