Pros It is just as sensitive as my hdtv. If a show is in 1080p and your monitor handles that you're going to get a very high definition picture. It works on Windows7 64 bit, duo core computer.
Cons It gets very hot when running. It could use a remote control -- if it isn't hanging out of USB port on the backside of your computer, and if it came with one. Huge video files created when recording programs, which eat of disk space.
Summary I was pleased to see that Hauppauge had an update that could be downloaded for their software to work on Windows 7. This is a type of device that wants a fast computer, and it works extremely well on my duo core computer. I also like the fact that you can separately adjust the search for HDTV and analogue t.v.. There are no analogue stations that I want to view in my area, so I don't even have to go to the trouble of locking them out, since I knew I didn't want to view them in the first place. The sensitivity of the dongle is just as good as my HDTV. Try to have a t.v. that will pick up digital signals so you will know beforehand what antenna to use and where to locate that antenna for this dongle.
Later models than mine, I believe come with a remote control and it looks like mine would function with one, if I had one. Of course the dongle would have to be dangling out the front of your computer to be able to use the remote. It's not exactly a thing of beauty. So, not having a remote control is a slight negative for me, though the higher price would be an even bigger negative since I got mine around $50.
Recordings are excellent if huge, I believe a 2-hour program will take at least 5+ gigabytes of space. You usually have to remember to have the program for dongle on to record programs that you have preset to record. The updated Hauppauge software does appear very good to me.
It is either because I'm prerecording or perhaps the dongle itself overheats when at times I get a message that says, "no tuner available." It is a behavior that I'm going to have to check out more closely and is stopping me from rating this device higher. The Hauppauge gets very hot to the touch, so I would make sure it's hanging freely and has good airflow around it.
I like it, and with a slimline computer it is one of the few options available for a t.v. tuner. I got mine when Hauppauge must have decided they were going to bundle a remote with it, so the price was something I was willing to pay as well.
