Pros: Infinitely more versatile and intelligent than MCE 2005
Cons: None, even my wife loves it!
Summary: 2 Years ago I built a media center pc and could not buy a stand alone version of MCE, so I purchased BTV instead. I've used BTV ever since with no problems what so ever.
It could not be any easier to use, my non-tech savvy wife loves it. The smartskip feature that allows you to skip commericals at the touch of a button is priceless. We also use BTV link to stream our recorded shows, or live TV through our MCE 2005 laptop, so we have a cordless tv.
I recently installed MCE 2005 after buying an xbox 360, so I have had the opportunity to compare them side by side. After 3 months of use I can honestly tell you there is no comparison.
Even with a MCE 2005 laptop, you can't stream live tv or recorded shows, they won't work together. MCE also limits you to 2 analog tuners (BTV has no limit), and then doesn't use them as efficiently as BTV (we were always getting conflicts). MCE 2005 also had a habit of recording shows at the wrong time, and recording the same show over and over again, problems I've never had with BTV.
BTV does 1 thing and it does it perfectly.
Coupled with beyond media, it is vastly superior to MCE 2005.
