"Great Buy!"
Pros: Easy to install, Quick VCD burning, Hi-Fi video caputure, attractive price
Cons: Early days, but am glad about their 2-year warranty.
Summary: Great Buy!
I bought the Adaptec AVC-2200 USB 2.0 MPEG-2 capture device on clearance for $50. Adaptec had just introduced a newer model.
My PC has a a celeron 2.96 GHz, 512MB RAM, Intel® Extreme Graphics 3D 64MB Shared Memory, CD ROM/RW 48 X. Software Installation was very quick and smooth in less than 5 minutes. Connections were a snap. Plug and play!
While Capturing, I ran into one glitch: No picture! My camcoder's audio out is composite; only one red cable for audio (right). The default audio-in setting had to be changed to composite in my case. This I trouble-shot in less than 5 min. using the supplied hardcopy start-up manual's 'trouble-shooting' section. And I'm not particularly into video graphics or even gaming!
Played and captured my infant daughter's 30 min video tape. I could even choose NTSC/PAL capturing format! Noticed NO blurring/fuzziness on the 'capture screen'.Audio seemed to be behind sync, but that was because the camcoder was 'speaking' as it played and it was ahead of the 'capturing screen' by a few frames. After play-back capture, I hit the burn button and had the VCD ready in 12 minutes flat! The VCD played out clear and bright on the DVD player connected to my TV and yes the audio was in 100% sync!
I love this thing! Great job Adaptec! I will heartily recoomend this Video capture device to those wishing to digitize their VHS tapes. I can't speak for fancy video editing, but this one sure has the basics right!
