    "KNOW THIS B4 U BUY ..."

    on January 23, 2005

Pros: 1 - Excellent Design 2 - Price dropped significantly (since original release) 3 - Software included: Encryption option, outlook synchronization, backup option. (Note: Some of the software is trial) 4 - Titanium finish, impact resistant (up to 2000 lbs.)

Cons: For a flash drive that claims to be high-speed, it hasn't worked on any of the 5 computers USB 2.0 ports. Ironically, I have a USB Extension 1.1 & USB Hub (also 1.1) and it will only work perfectly in USB 1.1 mode. BTW, it hates the front USB hookup

I own a half-dozen USB drives, but the only ones I use are my two Cruzer titanium drives. They are fast and reliable. I use them on a desktop and two laptops with no difficulty. I've had one of them for a year. I especially like the U3 software that makes them easy to use. When the price of the 4GB titanium comes down a bit, I plan to upgrade to it.

Mine works fine on my desktop and 2 laptops. I would guess that you must have a lemon.

Try renaming the drive, under disk management right click to rename the drive letter, change it to an unused letter and accept. Thats what works for me when my drive does not appear.

My wife accidentally washed and dried my thumb drive with the laundry while it was in my pants pocket. I was very surprised when I tried it out and all of my files were still there and accessible. It still works perfectly 8 months later. I will always buy Sandisk products

I had to return a 512K unit and the 1Meg unit has the same fragile issues as well as connectivity issues.

I had a Lexar Secure Jumpdrive 1Meg USB 2.0 that was fast enough, but its Coke-bottle shaped large body prevented the use of the second adjacent USB port (for a mouse) on my laptop unless I used a cable and unpowered USB hub. Annoying for travel.

I saw a Sandisk cruzer 1M USB 2.0 and decided to retire the bulbous Lexar. Boy, am I glad I didn't give it away. The cruzer is unbelievably slow. Almost useless for large files. And if I want to empty it and clean of the file structure I try to do it during dinner or over night - it takes three to five times as long to delete as my Lexar of the same content. Strange. And it ONLY works when plugged into a close port. I can have TWO Lexar drives on my unpowered hub plus a iRiver MP3 doing data transfer, all transfering, no problem. But, I can't have just the Sandisk cruzer with nothing else on the hub; it demands a direct connection. And this is a recent model ("mini"), not some early goof.

I looked on their web site but wasn't able to find any specs regarding these aspects or any guidance on these issues. Maybe I didn't look enough. I won't make a similar purchase without that info, though. The hassles of returning the item quickly outweigh any savings.
